Match XXIV: (6) Street Fighter vs. (2) Resident Evil Past Matches Street Fighter Defeated The Elder Scrolls, 64.77% - 35.23% Resident Evil Defeated Shadow Hearts, 87.76% - 12.24% Analysis: The prediction for SF/TES was all over the map, but in the end it got right in the middle of what everyone expected. Resident Evil on the other hand destroyed Shadow Hearts, sure it could be because SH is weak, but a series must have some strength in order to do that kind of a beating. We all know Mega Man is the top Capcom series, but which one takes second place (MMX = spin-off)? Ever since this match started there has been talk about SF upsetting RE, but I don’t see that happening. If this match happened before Resident Evil 4 you could make a point, but since it did come out I don’t see why this match is in question. Before RE4 the series had been slowly dieing out. The days of the Playstation were long gone and as the years go by the series were becoming less and less popular. Resident Evil 4 was announced to be released on the Gamecube in early 2005. The game became one of the must have games and was nominated and won many Game of the Year Awards. The series since then has been reborn and Resident Evil 5 has been announced to be released on the Playstation 3. Street Fighter is also a big name series back in the Arcade days and was one of the few series that kept them alive after the 90’s. The problem with Street Fighter, like Resident Evil had before RE4 was that it is past its prime and with no new games being hyped coming out soon it looks like it will continue to fall. Take a look at what happen to Ryu, he was one of the strongest characters back in 2002 though except for 2k3 always had a bad spot and lost in round 2, but now he has become weaker and would need a favorable spot in order to get to the Sweet 16. Like I said if Resident Evil 4 had never had come out this match would be hotly debated and I probably wouldn’t know who to pick, but since it did Resident Evil should have little trouble winning. For the final... I have a bad feeling FF is gonna lose. I have never
predicted the final winner correctly before (except the Villian

Holy crap, that's a horrible picture for RE. Even the "good guy" side
of Resident Evil (I think that's what it is) looks like he's about to

BTW, I'm not normally a fan of arguing that pictures significantly
affect the outcome of a match, however, I think that factor is bigger
in this contest. When one thinks of a character or game, we already have concrete images of the game. Cloud evokes thought of limits, whiny Mako-caused personality disorders, etc. Games likewise, give us memories of when we first entered the Water Temple and walked out 5 days later, and etc. However, a "series" is much more open to interpretation. If a voter's first sees SNES Final Fantasy sprites, they may think of Cloud/Squall/etc. eventually, but they won't right away. Miracle, while obviously an exaggeration (and RE is still the clear favorite), is fitting in some sense ;) best part: if SF wins, it's all the picture. if RE wins, it underperformed because of the picture. How could it be any other way? Unless SF wins convincingly then clearly it would be logical to think the picture might've changed the result - due to an RE underperformance. Which even if RE wins is logical anyway. Else everybody wouldn't be either freaking out/laughing like Monty Burns at this, depending on who they're rooting for. I'm just saying that if the upset materializes, people will point to
the picture factor even though we have no idea how much it matters.
pre-existing assumptions on how the match is going to go will dictate
people's responses. the picture may not alter anything at all, we have
no idea. I dropped my prediction... 2%?, but am still calling for an Ulti-style blowout. if SF wins though, I'll say good game and admit I was wrong, not blame the picture. --- yzzyx |

Granted, I do think that whatever performance we see tommorow can be
attributted more to SF's inherent strength/weakness, I just think this

no idea. That's what a huge part of the things we discuss fall under (too much for my tastes). It's true that there will be no data on this either, so no one can be overly confident, but that this hilariously one-sided picture will have some impact seems plain. I for one think that if Street Fighter wins with less than 52%, you'd have to be biased to not admit the picture might've changed the result. But that's getting ahead of ourselves, let's see how the match goes first. I think this is the first pic in which two of the three situations for
which I'll argue a pic making a difference apply. One entry is
completely unrecognizable (Lettuce Kefka, Solid ****) and one
