There's no reason for a movie to bring new fans to the site though,
I seriously doubt that FF7 shooting up the charts was due to new users,
and not previous ones who already loved or at least liked FF7, because
honestly, who else would bother downloading a copy of it at that point
in time? I see no reason for it to bring new FF7 fans to the site. it isn't - it's bringing old FF fans to the site. this place is like the FF7 haven. if people see the movie, they might want to talk about it on the boards, or they might want to replay their copy of FF7. the AC leak was rather huge here, it's tough to argue against that. when the Vincent match happened, it was like 2 or 3 days after the leak. by then it had time to circulate and for people to start hitting the game again. that's the theory, anyway. I don't care to argue it any more than that. --- xyzzy I lost a sig bet to War13104. Yes, the same guy who had Kefka over Crono. FOR THE HORDE! |

What's wrong with the idea of Magus getting 53% on Tidus? It's not THAT far above him. It's closer to 54% than 53%, and I think Tidus is potentially a smidge higher than he should be thanks to Kirby/Bowser or Bowser/Snake. Not that it's significant (as in he's probably still around that 2k4 value). But that's part of the reason why I'm torn. It's strange, but it could be legitimate. I would take Squall over Bowser now, just to clarify. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

Actually, it was the year after that that she plummeted. She overperfomed by 1% looking at 2k2, or 8% looking at 2k4. Fair enough, but a 1% increase from 2K2 isn't something I'd call impressive. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |

I don't care to argue it any more than that. Well replaying FF7 doesn't really make it so that Vincent is suddenly more liked than he was before, people already had an opinion on him, and it's not going to change now. Hell I like Vyse, but I like Solid Snake more, if I go back to replay Skies of Arcadia for whatever reason, it doesn't suddenly make me like Vyse more than Solid Snake. I don't really understand how replaying a game or going back to it affects anything. As for bringing people to the boards to discuss it, the amount of people using the boards is so insanely lower than the amount of people who vote in the contest. And I sincerely doubt that all of the board users were brought in to discuss the movie, meaning the % difference is nearly meaningless. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |

I think the thing is that people who already preferred Vincent to Crono
were brought to the site when they would have been elsewhere without
the AC leak. It's the same idea with Mario/Cloud. Yeah, most people on
GameFAQs legitimately preferred Cloud. But when you release SMS, you're
going to get an influx of people who like Mario, and have a tendency to
like him better than Cloud. It won't be absolute, sure, but even 55-45
is enough to change the result of a match. Not that AC had anywhere near the scale of SMS, it's just a comparison. If it had, Vincent could've made that match *scary*. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. It's averaging high 73% at this point. A tripling is unlikely unless it gets a monster day vote. And it got the day vote against Diablo despite that ridiculous percentage it was already at. even 55-45 is enough to change the result of a match. Solid Snake/Bowser - 101578 Vincent Valentine/Crono - 95360 Sonic/Mega Man - 98839 Sure, votal fluctuation is normal, but if I'm supposed to believe there is some new Vincent Valentine fans to be found on this site on account of Advent Children, shouldn't it's votals at least compare to the match previous to, and after it? Hell even if you further back another match, and another match into the future, the votals pale in comparison. I don't feel like looking any further, but I don't see this sudden increase in Vincent fans coming to the site to boost him up. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |
Karma Hunter | Posted 7/23/2006 10:20:23 PM | message detail |
Well, the thing is that Vincent/Crono was also a Square/Square match.
Two strong characters can pull in horrid votals if they share the same
fanbase. Just look at Bowser/Kirby. And it didn't have to bring a very large amount of people in either. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

FlamboyantSpy | Posted 7/23/2006 10:24:35 PM | message detail |
And it didn't have to bring a very large amount of people in either. It's going to need a couple thousand to make a difference in the percent. If Vincent had received 2,000 less votes, he would have ended up with only a percent less than he had. And I honestly feel like 2,000 people is being very generous. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |

Karma Hunter | Posted 7/23/2006 10:27:53 PM | message detail |
It's not exactly impossible. For all we know, Crono/Vincent could have
been another Bowser/Kirby affair in terms of votes. If there was an
increase, it's hard to gauge as it is. And from what I do at least, it would seem that I put more stock into their performances than most. Squall > Bowser, Vincent > Ganondorf, and Knuckles > Yoshi are just a few of the results I would take in 2k6 that most wouldn't dream of. Knuckles > Yoshi is something I'd have a hard time taking considering he's barely ahead of Luigi. Vincent over Ganon better be taken by people in here. It's
guaranteed to be after the much improved Dirge of Cerberus (releasing

I saw the greatest thing at the beach today. Some giant seagull went
into the water and caught a catfish. He then stood on guard for a good
15 minutes while at the same time killing the fish; he more or less
poked away at the fish's heart until it died. 10 or so seagulls then ate the fish apart, leaving nothing but bones. No eyes, no tail, nothing but bones. And what's awesome is that they did it with amazing precision. No bone was ripped off by accident and nothing edible was left behind, all in a matter of minutes. Nature is awesome. ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. Ever." Contest Now Playing: Resident Evil 4, KH:COM (Sora), Larussa 92 (NYY), WC3: Frozen Throne |
