Okay, guys, I said this in the Analysis Crew topic, but I probably should've said it here. Anyone think that Mario Kart might be slightly stronger than SSB? I mean, the way I see it...

MK64 > SSB.
MK: DD + DS/GBA MK games < SSBM, but not by as much as we might think.
SMK = mass free votes from the SNES crowd!

Maybe not. I wouldn't be confident at all, but I don't see SMK beating SSB as a non possibility. Or at least being as strong as it indirectly, anyway.

I also think Mega Man's slightly stronger than Sonic, by the way.

Ehh, I think Mario Kart could do well indirectly, but I wouldn't give it a chance of winning. I just don't see Mario Kart as something people have as a "favorite."

Pre-poll thus far:

It's funny. I thought SSB would dominate on the board, but Sonic is holding his own.

If you look at the percentages from both of their first round matches, Sonic seemed to do a little better with the board vote (relative to its overall performance) than Smash Brothers did. I know this board has a reputation for Smash fanboyism, but Sonic's got some pretty fierce support of its own among the hardcore contest folks.

Smash fanboyism is a *tad* overrated on this board, but only in the sense that most people like it as a top 20 game or so, with a significant portion placing it as a top 10 game. But then there's that 10% or so that just touts Smash as TEH BEST GAME EVAR and puts it over SMB out of pure bias. The fact that we had as many brackets put SSB over SMB as we had Sonic over SSB is the biggest testament to that bias.

Sorry guys but Legend of Zelda is going to win. The game is too massive and was a breakthrough when it first released. Also with Twilight Princess releasing in the coming months, it looks like its going to take GOTY.

Another thing that really ticked me off about the board was how easy this match was made out to be for so long, and how anyone that questioned the result was made out to be a bonafide idiot. I remember a handful of topics asking about Sonic/SSB and how it seemed to be the hardest match of the contest for them, and how they were laughed out of the topic and told of how easy that match was when compared to brainbusters like Mega Man/Mario Kart. Nobody even gave Sonic and the old-school/nostalgia factors the time of day (the *only* reason CV had so many picks against Halo in the first place was because of this board's bias against Halo, and we all know it). Mega Man/Mario Kart being the most debated match of the contest seems ridiculous now.

I'm not saying Sonic will win, but he does have a shot. That alone should humiliate the board, because on this match people were both overconfident and arrogant.

I was over-confident at first and not ashamed to admit it. I always saw it possible, but only in the same sense as, say, TES > SF, until the contest started. I still got my chips on SSB, but Sonic has a good chance.

Amazingly there haven't been that much whining so far.

So far the Castlevania fans have probably been the worst.

But with upcoming matchs like Sonic vs SSBM, FF vs MM, and RE vs SF. The top is gonna explode.

Perhaps, but the hindsight being 20/20 and everything. Once we started seeing the trend of older established series being stronger, that attitude changed.
