Leon Kennedy gained a good bit of ground against Gordon with it. He lost ground with the morning vote against Mega Man, but held pretty firm with the afternoon vote. Can't see much swing in Hayabusa/Jill, but it was close anyway.

For the record, Gordon Freeman lost the day vote to Sam Fisher. I'd hardly consider him to be anything of note with it. Heck, Ryu might be able to take it from him.

618 perfects...how many shall fall tonight? Id love to see half of them go but that is prolly asking too much...

So I shall say 150 took the #3 seed mostly out of its number alone and will pay dearly for it...

And I really cant see any of the 15-0 perfects taking Shadow Hearts after winning 15 matches...so whatever we finish with tonight will be what goes into Round 2 in terms of perfects.

SF will beat RE...this match proves only one thing...Illumina's 3rd Law: 2nd tier RPGs will always draw 20-30% of the total votes unless it is up against FF, the King of RPGs. Tomorrow you will see this again...as Shadow Hearts...an entrant that really dont belong here considering the series that did not make it...will draw 20-30 percent of the vote solely cause it is an RPG. Meaning, RE will not finish above 80%...

Leon and Jill versus a guy trying to be less straight than Kuja, an ugly chick, and an old guy in a top hat with no monocle. Good pic for RE, and not so good for SH.

I was expecting Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine (Ceej seems to be using characters that have appeared in character contests for the most part) for Resident Evil, and I think it's pretty good. I like the background, too.

Shadow Hearts's side...sucks. That artwork is ugly.

Huge match pic disadvantage for Shadow Hearts.

I wonder whats the over/under on Shadow Hearts getting a lower percentage than tanner at the end in xstats. But then I think Madden already beat Shadow Hearts to that. Can Shadow HEarts do worse than Madden at the end?

Can Shadow HEarts do worse than Madden at the end?

I doubt it, Shadow Hearts should at least get 16% on RE, and that's 100% more than what Madden got on Mario.

Yeah, I just can't see Shadow Hearts avoiding the quadrupling. I'd start to worry about Resident Evil if it didn't manage that much. This series is going to be pathetically weak. I could see Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Super Mario Brothers clearing 90% with ease on Shadow Hearts.

Heck, I think Suikoden would beat it easily.

XD @ Illumina. What a cop-out, saying that RE wouldn't get over 20-30%. I'm not going to make any judements, because like I said before, judging SF off this one match with Elder Scrolls - (untested) is kind of...well, weird >_>. I think RE will come very, very close to 80%, but not quite break it. 78-79, maybe.

And I still think that would be enough to beat SF.

For being one of the weakest entries in this contest, Resident Evil should be able to slaughter Shadow Hearts. When an entry is that weak, anything with strength should be able to break 80% on it.

Match 16 - Resident Evil vs Shadow Hearts

And we finish the first round with another obvious match. Resident Evil, made a lot more powerful with the widely praised RE4, ought to take Shadow Hearts to the cleaners. Not sure how it got in to the contest at all, but there you go.

We've seen RE before, the original game unsurprisingly being owned by Metal Gear Solid. That's not going to mean much at all in this context, considering it'll be drawing most of its strength from 4. A couple of characters have turned up but been little more than midcarders who have aged badly. Shadow Hearts, er, had that one that was owned by Samus.

Obvious match to call, it's just a question of size of victory. I've gone for a very conservative number - this could easily be a big blowout, but Resident Evil doesn't strike me as the sort of thing that could put up huge numbers, regardless of the quality of opponent.

Bracket says: Resident Evil
Favourites bracket says: Resident Evil
Vote says: Resident Evil
Prediction: Resident Evil with 68.86%

Fun fact of the day: jonthomson supports the Nintendo Wii, and has ringfenced poker winnings to buy one at launch with MP3 already.

I just ain't entirely sold on the Nintendo RPG series losing to the classic fighter, and I would think that a mainly-Xbox/360/PC-confined RPG series wouldn't be able to run laps around SO, either.

I think people saw Poke/SO and TES/SF as matches that "decided" how weak Pokemon or SO was and how strong TES was, but I'm going to wait to see how SF and RE do before I go on much further about Pokemon.

Elder Scrolls and Street Fighter.

And I second HM about Pokémon. Not only can it lose votes on name recognition, but only 20 people in the entire world are still with the series these days. I just so happens that 18 of them are on board 8, and one of the remaining two's my brother.

Match XVI: (2) Resident Evil vs. (7) Shadow Hearts

Games in series

Resident Evil (PS, 1996)
Resident Evil 2 (PS, 1997)
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS, 1999)
Resident Evil 4 (GC, 2005)

Shadow Hearts (PS2, 2001)
Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2, 2004)
Shadow Hearts: From the New World (PS2, 2006)

Analysis:

Resident Evil turned the survival horror genre to what it is today. Due to the increasing amount of deaths in Raccoon City the police department put STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Service), a special force dedicated to stopping terrorist activity on the case. The city is full of Zombies can you defeat them and find out what’s going on? You play as Yuri in Shadow Hearts, a man has gone on a killing spree on a train and when you interfere the man summons a goblin at you. Yuri strangles the goblin to death, but the man puts a woman to sleep and throws you away with magic. Who is that man and who is that woman?

I didn’t realize Shadow Hearts was in the bracket until I wondered who Resident Evil was up against. Like in most contests we’ll also be finishing the round the same way we started, in a blowout. Resident Evil may not be the strongest series in the contest, but it is strong enough to show how weak Shadow Hearts is. At the beginning of the contest Shadow Hearts was on of the series voted for to get last in the contest (Madden NFL will most likely get it now).

charmander6000’s Bracket: Resident Evil over Shadow Hearts

charmander6000’s Prediction: Resident Evil wins, 76.32% - 23.68%

Nintendo's RPG series means nothing here.

Nintendo's 4 main RPGs are MArio RPG, Mother, FE and Pokemon.

The strongest out of these is Mario RPG which suprisingly isn't in the contest. The strongest entry by far in the Mario RPG series is Super MArio RPG and thats mainly because its not made by Nintendo but made by Square so it has Square fan's backing also (Hey if you got backing from the two most powerful Entities on Gamefaqs, you gotta have some strength right). Without Super Mario RPG, none of the Nintendo RPG series have any strength in this contest.

Pokemon would get beat by SF pretty easily.

You have BOARD 8 REGULARS thinking that. Dude, it's tradition. If their hard-on for SSBM causes it to be favored over SMB3 and LttP in the top 10 contest, why is this even surprising?

The funny thing is, at the same time next year no one will give two ****s about SSBM anymore.
