Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

I'm not exactly upset that DQ is going on this percentage push, you know. It's a great series. And as much as I love SSB, Sonic beating it will make me feel very vindicated given how badly this board slurps everything Nintendo and laughed at the mere mention of the upset there.

I just hope SSB doesn't rebound later during the day. The lower SSB's percentage goes, the more confidence I have in Sonic pulling the upset next round.

Match 13 - Final Fantasy vs Diablo

Again, we've got a waste of a match. Final Fantasy is never going to lose a first round match ever, so give it the kind of joke opponent that might make for an amusing match. Diablo isn't exactly a joke opponent for obvious reasons - moreover it's a series that, like Warcraft, could have a wide range of possible strength. Stick it in against any midcarder and you've got an interesting match which could cause a decent amount of debate. We all saw what Diablo did in the Villains contest in terms of bracket busting (and, aside from the comic Master Hand four-pack, it was more or less the only thing you could realistically get wrong) and there's no reason to think that, given a decent setup, the same couldn't happen here. As is, it's in a no-win match and will lose comfortably.

That's pretty much it, the only interesting thing here is what percentage FF manages but we won't be able to read anything from it because we don't know the strength of Diablo outside of a character setting. I don't see it being massively ugly, but it will be one-sided enough.

Bracket says: Final Fantasy
Favourites bracket says: Diablo
Vote says: Diablo
Prediction: Final Fantasy with 71.63%

Fun fact of the day: jonthomson believes Mega Man's doubling of Yoshi to be the funniest match in GameFAQs contest history.

As much as I love SSB/M to death and dislike 3D Sonic, I'm with you all the way on that one. I'd like to see Sonic win.

Though SSBM isn't a one-hit wonder. People quickly forget how huge the original was.

Revered and respected on 7 continents...and loved by the legions on Board 8...he is...

Steve Illumina

From 12-0 to 16-0...here we go kiddies...the final four matches of Round 1...in the Flare, Contain, Esuna Division!

(1)Final Fantasy vs (8)Diablo
(4)Mega Man vs (5)Mario Kart
(3)Elder Scrolls vs (6)Street Fighter
(2)Resident Evil vs (7)Shadow Hearts

Sage of Board 8 Picks: FF, MM, SF, RE
Fanbabies' Picks: FF, MK, ES, RE
Warcraft won so this will too Pick: Diablo
Nintendites Pick: Mario Kart
Wanderer O'Morrowind Pick: Elder Scrolls
I Dont Belong Here...I am Fodder Pick: Shadow Hearts

Ceej is a genius. Purely brilliant in creating this fourth quadrant of the bracket. I say this not because of the quality of the 3 fodder series here... Nor do I mention it because of the overseeding of 2 of the games, and the underseeding of 2 of them. Oh wait...this is why I am saying it!

Yes kiddies...in every contest there is one half of or even a full quadrant of the bracket that, from a logical sense, dispels all notions of logic whatsoever. And the best part is, 98% of the bracketeers fall for it! What do I mean? Well read on and see the Sage's wisdom...noobs!

FF vs Diablo: Here Diablo is an 8 seed. It should be a 6. It would easily beat Scrolls and Hearts. But here...it falls to the Square Legions. Course it wont fall the way Madden did, as Diablo has hardcore fans, Madden has well...longevity! Mario will hold the record this contest for sure with the biggest blowout and the Savior of Gaming that he is deserves it. Course, when FF dont spank Diablo by 90%, the idiots will cry out that FF is done...that it was SFF'd. RSFF'd, Extrapolated, Anti-Voted, Etc.

Mega Man vs Mario Kart: Best match of the Round 1 bracket next to Warcraft and GTA in terms of interestingness and the ability to go either way realistically. 2 good strong series, strong fanbases, no anti-voting nonsense. But which will rule the day? Easy. Mega Man. Why? Because his legacy is one that carries such respect, like Castlevania. It is spread from the NES to the Xbox and the DS and back. This includes the classic 8 Mega's, as well as the MMZero, the MM Card games, etc. Mario Kart? Its a racing game...and we know how popular those are here. Close but no cigar...

Elder Scrolls vs Street Fighter: More underseeding and overseeding designed to destroy potential perfects. And it will work...as clueless Seed Voters (Not Squall & Co) will take #3 Elder on its number alone. Sadly, this next-gen series wont make it past the King of Fighters. And if you dare doubt me...I got a one word answer for you: RYU

Resident Evil vs Shadow Hearts: RE a 2 seed? You gotta be kidding me. No way this is legitimate. RE is done next round, but it does deserve to win one match...so what does it get...the weakest 2nd Tier RPG series of the 5 or 6 that are in this whole affair! Shadow Hearts? Please... Where is Xenogears? Where is Mana? Where is Chrono??? Shadow Hearts sounds to me like the movie of the month at the local adult video outlet... RE will overperform too...and it will embolden the noobs and kiddies who picked it to meet FF in Round 3...but Zangief & Guile will not be afraid...

16-0 my loyal fans...believe it cause it is coming in 4 short days! :)

Megaman > Mario Kart
Street Fighter > ES
Resident Evil > Street Fighter

Resident Evil 4 sold 3.2 million copies (PS2 + GC), it has Nintendo and Sony fans, its pretty popular right now. Plus all of those Capcom fans are going to run around acting like their heads are cut off because they can't decide between their two favorite series.

Total Series Sales:
Resident Evil - 24.8 Million
Street Fighter - 15.1 Million

Isn't it possible SSB has Mario syndrome?

By that, I mean underperforming against weaker characters, like Mario did vs Shadow, or pretty much any otehr character he should've crushed which he only did okay against, but then can defeat tougher opponents, despite stuff like Servbot? >_>

Anyhoo, a lot of the matches I feel are quite conditional, as there should be some SFF in SSB's favor. DQ is relatively untested as far as strength. SSB probably has gotten a percentage of Snake's fanbase they didnt have before due to SSBB.

While I love Sonic, and he'll be getting my vote, I'm still convinced he has no shot against SSB.

I don't think diablo will be weak enough to get tripled. I'm expecting something in the area of 70-30 obviously in favour of FF. If diablo does this well however, I think it will be a testament to its strength; not to any sort of weakness on FF's part. I still fully expect half the board to start calling for smb > ff if it fails to triple it though. While we don't really know how strong diablo is, expectations for FF in this match seem sort of ridiculous. It's almost like some people expect diablo to be close to civilization level fodder.

Match XIII: (1) Final Fantasy vs. (8) Diablo

Games in series

Final Fantasy (NES, 1990)
Final Fantasy II (NES, JP1988)
Final Fantasy II (IV) (SNES, 1991)
Final Fantasy III (NES, JP1990)
Final Fantasy III (VI) (SNES, 1994)
Final Fantasy IV (SNES, JP1991)
Final Fantasy V (SNES, JP1992)
Final Fantasy VI (PS, JP1999)

Final Fantasy IX (PS, 2000)
Final Fantasy X (PS2, 2001)
Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2, 2003)
Final Fantasy XI (PS2, 2004)

Diablo (PC, 1996)
Diablo II (PC, 2000)

Analysis:

It’s a little hard trying to explain the Final Fantasy series, they’re all really different, but here goes, there is a person/empire and the main character thinks that person has gone crazy/empire gone corrupt, but was a friend/a part of the empire at some time. During your quest you meet with other people who also what to put an end to this person/empire. Diablo is also a RPG, you start off as a Warrior, Rogue or Sorcerer. Find items, do Quests, fight monsters and don’t forget to find Diablo.

How did Final Fantasy get stuck with Diablo in the first round? Diablo fans will keep Final Fantasy from slaughtering Diablo like LoZ and SMB did to there opponents. Final Fantasy might not approach 90%, but it will be approaching 80% on Diablo. The thing is since Final Fantasy’s games are different enough that some people may love one game, but fully hate another, it will get more of a boost from its games than most series will.

Diablo on the other hand like Halo and SSB isn’t a series, but it does have one advantage the other two don’t have, time. Many of the new series have been dropping like flies, why because they haven’t been out long enough to establish themselves and be remembered of how great they were.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Final Fantasy over Diablo

charmander6000’s Prediction: Final Fantasy wins, 79.44% - 20.56%
