I knew it. This board overrates SSB to damn much. Acting like it can take down SMB. What a joke. They did the same thing with Kingdom Hearts,Acting like it can take down MG.

There's just a little problem with that... logically, KH at least has the potential to win its division. SSB doesn't, because if it beats Sonic it's getting run over in an SFF affair.

The popularity of the DQ series is baffling to me, anyway.

It's just one incredibly generic RPG after another with an undeveloped plot and characters, combined with boring battle systems, annoying save systems (having to go to a church every time I want to save is not "charm", it's just ANNOYING), and obnoxiously repetitive soundtracks. Not to mention the ridiculous random encounter rate in each game and the incredibly tedious hours one has to spend raising money for new equipment.

Dragon Quest sucks.

You just described the majority of the FF series for me.

DQ definitely jumped during the night...but SSB is very capable of embarrassing it later today, too.

So, from all the matches we've seen so far and only FF/Diablo being left until Mega Man/Mario Kart...who do you have and who do you think will win? Both Nintendo and old-school franchises have shown success, and both have their favorites that alot of people are torn on (though I figure MK64 is more likely to have the most support in its fanbase than Mega Man 2). Mega Man is arguably "Nintendo", but we've seen a poll showing MMX > MM, and I've heard talk from afew people that say MK could have matched or beat MMX's 72.61% against Suikoden.

What's your stance on it before the matches we've seen and right now?

Wow, DQ really brought SSB down overnight, but now SSB is flying back up.

As for next round, SSB will probably take the lead early and hold it overnight. Sonic then comes back and chips it down with the morning vote. Not really sure how it plays out from there...

Time to respond to the last day of the stats topic in one post!

not far.. about 3 or so hours. I am a huge S1 fan and 2 just never did anything for me. I know I'm the weird one here. I've tried several times just out of the rabid fanbase's insistence, but never manage to get very far. I'm gonna try it out once this match settles down.

What!!! I can't imagine liking Suikoden I and not liking Suikoden II. Suikoden II is pretty much the perfect sequel - it's almost like the same game, except with better characters, better graphics, better music, better gameplay, a better story, and better minigames. Especially Hai Yo's minigame.

I always thought Dragon Warrior = Dragon Quest was pretty common knowledge, but I could be wrong.

Considering how many people still think Final Fantasy VI is "Final Fantasy III", I bet there are tons of people who don't know DQ=DW.

I was just amazed in general at how strong FFVII was in the Games Contest...yeah, I had it to win, but I expected FFVII/OoT to be a barnburner, and for the rest of the games to at least be in its league...lol me.

Honestly, I'm still surprised that OOT came as close as it did. From the moment I heard about the contest I thought it was a one horse race.

Yeah. I owe my Dragon Quest fandom to Nintendo Power and the free copy of Dragon Warrior they gave me >_<

Hey, I got that free copy of Dragon Warrior from Nintendo Power too. But it didn't turn me into a fan - I had already played FF1 at that point, and DW1 paled in comparison.

*sigh* Mega Man is not all that old school. MM1 is not even three years older than SMK. And its 8 main series games to 5, which is hardly a large advantage. In America, the NES games barely sold better than the Dragon Warrior games, and they were even more pathetic in Europe. At this point, I'd take Castlevania over Mega Man, but I'd never take CV over MK. The only way Mega Man can win is if people count every one of his games, including the MMX games, and so far the voters have shown more intelligence than that in this contest.

I never realized this before: the FF CJayC decides to put onto the picture might screw with voting results. If we get a bunch of FF7, Diablo will be slaughtered. But if he just puts NES/SNES characters on there Diablo might get a decent performance.

This will be interesting.

Uh...I'm pretty sure that FF will get virtually identical results no matter what picture it has. The only thing I can think of that could affect it would be a bunch of pictures off FF1 characters, so that people thought it was just the first game...and that would be pretty silly.

Revered and respected on 7 continents...and loved by the legions on Board 8...he is...

Steve Illumina

From 12-0 to 16-0...here we go kiddies...the final four matches of Round 1...in the Flare, Contain, Esuna Division!

(1)Final Fantasy vs (8)Diablo
(4)Mega Man vs (5)Mario Kart
(3)Elder Scrolls vs (6)Street Fighter
(2)Resident Evil vs (7)Shadow Hearts

Sage of Board 8 Picks: FF, MM, SF, RE
Fanbabies' Picks: FF, MK, ES, RE
Warcraft won so this will too Pick: Diablo
Nintendites Pick: Mario Kart
Wanderer O'Morrowind Pick: Elder Scrolls
I Dont Belong Here...I am Fodder Pick: Shadow Hearts

Ceej is a genius. Purely brilliant in creating this fourth quadrant of the bracket. I say this not because of the quality of the 3 fodder series here... Nor do I mention it because of the overseeding of 2 of the games, and the underseeding of 2 of them. Oh wait...this is why I am saying it!

Yes kiddies...in every contest there is one half of or even a full quadrant of the bracket that, from a logical sense, dispels all notions of logic whatsoever. And the best part is, 98% of the bracketeers fall for it! What do I mean? Well read on and see the Sage's wisdom...noobs!

FF vs Diablo: Here Diablo is an 8 seed. It should be a 6. It would easily beat Scrolls and Hearts. But here...it falls to the Square Legions. Course it wont fall the way Madden did, as Diablo has hardcore fans, Madden has well...longevity! Mario will hold the record this contest for sure with the biggest blowout and the Savior of Gaming that he is deserves it. Course, when FF dont spank Diablo by 90%, the idiots will cry out that FF is done...that it was SFF'd. RSFF'd, Extrapolated, Anti-Voted, Etc.

Mega Man vs Mario Kart: Best match of the Round 1 bracket next to Warcraft and GTA in terms of interestingness and the ability to go either way realistically. 2 good strong series, strong fanbases, no anti-voting nonsense. But which will rule the day? Easy. Mega Man. Why? Because his legacy is one that carries such respect, like Castlevania. It is spread from the NES to the Xbox and the DS and back. This includes the classic 8 Mega's, as well as the MMZero, the MM Card games, etc. Mario Kart? Its a racing game...and we know how popular those are here. Close but no cigar...

Elder Scrolls vs Street Fighter: More underseeding and overseeding designed to destroy potential perfects. And it will work...as clueless Seed Voters (Not Squall & Co) will take #3 Elder on its number alone. Sadly, this next-gen series wont make it past the King of Fighters. And if you dare doubt me...I got a one word answer for you: RYU

Resident Evil vs Shadow Hearts: RE a 2 seed? You gotta be kidding me. No way this is legitimate. RE is done next round, but it does deserve to win one match...so what does it get...the weakest 2nd Tier RPG series of the 5 or 6 that are in this whole affair! Shadow Hearts? Please... Where is Xenogears? Where is Mana? Where is Chrono??? Shadow Hearts sounds to me like the movie of the month at the local adult video outlet... RE will overperform too...and it will embolden the noobs and kiddies who picked it to meet FF in Round 3...but Zangief & Guile will not be afraid...

16-0 my loyal fans...believe it cause it is coming in 4 short days! :)

As a matter of fact, I think the 8 games may be to MM's disadvantage. There are two explanations for the anamolies we've seen here: either the old school games have increased, or people are voting based on series instead of its most popular game. The former benefits MM slightly, but the latter benefits MK in a big way. It's true that the GBA version of MK is not very well liked, and DD is controversial, but I'd say the average strength of the MK series is pretty high. MM, on the other hand, has the awesomeness of MM2 and MM3 but a whole bunch of dead weight in the other games of the series, dead weight that could haunt them if people are voting based on the entire series.
