Ever since getting the internet about ten years ago or so, I've never
seen the need to subscribe to any gaming magazines. All the information
I'd ever need for any game is easily attainable through this wonderful

The coolest thing I suscribed to was Playstation Underground. When the
Playstation was still kind of new and they gave you news, trailers, and

I saw someone say that DQ7 or 8 sold 600k copies in Europe.. combine
that with Nintendo never doing all that great at this time of day and

Just read everything...hot-damn. I was going to continue feeling decent
for SSB as long as DQ didn't do something wild like crack 40%, and I
was expecting SSB to get about 68%...but 78% instead? Hells yeah. I'm not saying Sonic is out of it, but I wouldn't take DMC to easily get 60+% against DQ, and I've made my case for why SSB should be a good deal stronger than Halo and Sonic is plenty comparable with CV strength-wise. I hope the match is good, but I feel better about SSB > Sonic, at least...I'm not as positive about it as I was before the contest started, but I'm about as close back to it as I have been since. --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? 1996 was when I stopped with Nintendo Power. It had already been hard enough to keep up with Sega games outside of the mega-hits
(I missed so many Sega gems). Once the Playstation arrived, Nintendo

The internet is way better then any magazine anyways, since you can
easily find multiple sources of information on a game, where one biased
magazine article could lead you to think a sub-par game is worth

More in reference to how highly Board 8 reveres the game and how
much it expects from it. Honestly, from the way the board talks about
its strength, you'd think it Ulti-style destroyed EVERYTHING in its
division, not just MGS2. Just to use this as a random example, btw, but ssbm gets bashed a lot, too. And it's not even the gameplay that gets bashed, many users feel it necessary to say that "this board overrates it to hell," "it's not nearly as strong as people think," "here at Nintendofaqs of course it's going to be strong." Super Smash Brothers Melee is not strong because it came from Nintendo. It's strong because it's an awesome game that came from another awesome game. The way people talk about "board 8's" love for the game, you'd think it isn't worthy of being enjoyed or appreciated by any larger coherent group. Or for that matter, isn't worthy of hanging around with any of these series in a credibility contest. Super Smash is a series deserving of the attention it gets here; it isn't popular because it sucks, and it's perfectly acceptable that it's many people's favorite game. more in a well-established fighting series of Nintendo's all-stars than
in a cutesy platformer that Nintendo doesn't focus so much on? No. SSB

Impressive by SSB so far. Too bad...even with a slime picture it seems DQ might have trouble breaking 25%. As for Sonic vs. SSB, SSB is still the favorite, as it already was. SSB is the favorite and an easy SSB win is possible whereas an easy Sonic win probably isn't. I don't think anyone here is haughty enough to hold anyone's individual
taste against them...but honestly, you're nuts if you don't think this
board overrates the living stew out of SSBM when it comes to contests. Check the BOP here. As many people have SSB over SMB as there are people who have Sonic over SSB. That's ridiculous in the extreme, and if Sonic ends up winning the casuals may well end up humiliating Board 8. In the 10th Anniversary Contest, most of the board picked SSBM to get much higher than it did despite the fact that it ended up at exactly where it should have looking at the X-Stats. It isn't that the game isn't great and that Board 8 overrates it, that isn't what most people mean when they say that at all. But Board 8 is only a small part of GameFAQs, and it differs. The most popular game on GameFAQs is FFVII, the most popular game on Board 8 is SSBM. That's how it is. Frankly, I've seen nothing but the opposite here whenever the question of Sonic v. SSBM comes up here. "Sonic doesn't deserve to win because SSBM is better than every Sonic game put together!" in response to pro-Sonic statements, that sort of thing. I'd say Board 8 is far more culpable than any dissenters. Glass house, ranting, etc. --- Commit it to memory. |

Yeah, we thought that Sonic would probably explode in the morning. All
it did was basically stall for a few hours before DMC proceeded to take

Eh? People would take FE over DQ? I'd expect something like 65% for DQ
in a match like that. FE is one of the weakest entries in the contest.
MGS will likely go 80%+ on it. 86%, I'd say. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |
