Yeah, DMC over DQ with at *least* 55%, and going that low just makes me
think I'm insulting DMC. I realize it's had a recent hit with DQVIII, I
know it's a long running series with some moderately impressive polls
in the past...but honestly, I can't see it hanging with DMC. --- Commit it to memory. |

If DMC/DQ had been set up in the bracket, at least 80% of the board would've picked DMC. Extremely impressive performance by Sonic...and next gen series (DMC
included) are tanking left and right. SSB has to hope that the whole

yep, I'd pick DMC as well - I just don't think that DMC is nearly as
strong as people think here. I agree with what mnm said a day or two
ago about this match: Sonic beating the hell out of DMC wouldn't really
convince me of anything, but DMC getting 40%+ would make me feel very,
very confident in SSB > Sonic. this is DMC getting exposed more than
Sonic showing true strength. DMC as a series is not close to Dante as a

I'd probably have picked DMC too. But assuming that DMC takes out DQ
with 55-60% puts SSB with a lot to live up to for tomorrow. Man. What the hell is up with GameFAQs and this new shift away from current-gen stuff? --- Need new sig. |

Dante may have more going for him in terms of character style and
appeal than most of the characters in the Summer Contest...but
honestly, Snake has even *more* going for him, and I'm not hearing
anyone considering taking him over ANY of his games...even the ones
that are less popular mainly because he doesn't star in them! Dante is popular because of DMC. You don't have many outs like you do for long-running established characters like Mega Man or Sonic...he's popular because of DMC. --- Commit it to memory. |

Man. What is up with GameFAQs and this new shift away from current-gen stuff? I forget who said this a while ago (I think it was in reference to Sora getting a boost from KHII), but I think it may be correct: Something new may become popular, but it will be difficult for it to displace old favorites. I'd take DMC with 60% or over. To be honest, I'm probably
underestimating DQ heavily. Hell, I had it crushed by SSB until I got

How well did the Devil May Cry games do in the game contest, if any made it in? None made it in, but the original Devil May Cry placed two spots lower than Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Top 100 Games List. Which either speaks of how worthless that list is in measuring this contest or how much actually being a series with diversity concerning the favorite is. Getting lucky a couple of times doesn't make you much of anything
else, much in the same way that my winning Sp2k4 doesn't make me any
smarter at picking these things than anyone else. Yeah, that's why I hate upsets like GTA/Warcraft. Playership of the original FF is very high here, and while there is a big -- BIG -- diversity of fanbase among the FF crowd, when you limit it the drop-down list to one game you're essentially doing something similar to Sonic 2 being the only Sonic game on the drop-down list. Unification would be big for it...it could potentially have ended above DMC, and definitely would have beat out things like SoA and Shenmue in my mind... --- Commit it to memory. |

I agree that Sonic 2 being the only Sonic game helped its cause on the
list, but that's because Sonic 3 is so similar so they're bound to draw
votes away from each other. I don't see FF1 as being like that. most FF
fans here are fans of 6 and up. they may vote for FF because it's got
the name on it, but the original has a drastically different fanbase
than the FF7's and FF10's of the world. I don't think them being
eliminated from the list helps FF1 out all that much. a little, yes,
but it's not suddenly in the top 30. --- xyzzy |
