You should feel guilty! I feel guilty every time I don't have MG winning the contest.

...which according to my bracket, is never!

Man, that is one cluttered picture. I was worried about SSB getting that picture next round. At least we got it out of the way when it doesn't matter. Gotta wonder what the theme for the second round will be.

Maybe it'll be villains! Robotnik vs. Master Hand: Part Deux!

This is completely random, but I stumbled across this poll:

Poll 294 (09/18/2000)
Which of the GameFAQs Top 10 games is your favorite?

2505 29.07% Chrono Cross - PSX
859 9.97% Diablo II - PC
207 2.4% Digimon World - PSX
1585 18.39% Final Fantasy VII - PSX
831 9.64% Final Fantasy VIII - PSX
323 3.75% Legend of Dragoon - PSX
975 11.31% Marvel vs. Capcom 2 - DC
322 3.74% Parasite Eve II - PSX

Heh, but that was like less than a month after Chrono Cross released. Hype and excitement for a game are at peaks in the immediate aftermath of a release.

Final Fantasy VIII SquareSoft 09/07/99 US
Chrono Cross Square Enix 08/15/00 US

there's your answer. I still want to see CC in a contest one of these days. the one chance it had was this one and it got snubbed - not that anyone on this board would give CC any credit anyway.

You know what, I think if Dragon Question got an old-school NES 8-bit pic of the Dragon Warrior I hero, it could easily break 30%. An 8-bit slime pic would probably have a similar impact.

Apro's Half-Assed Analysis (AHAA)

I <3 SSBM. DQ? Mmmm, Dairy Queen. What's that you say? It's not a match against a slightly-above-average ice cream chain? I once watched someone playing DQVIII for ten or fifteen minutes while also watching someone else play Mario Kart DS while also having a discussion with two other people about video games. DQVIII looked like it's probably fun. But it's no Final Fantasy. SSBM with 75%.

I blame Ulti, stat topix elitism, and Davy Jones.

Erm...I fully expect SSB to be getting the tripling. Anything else would be surprising, and I really wouldn't want to be a guy with SSB > Sonic if DQ can push it under 70%.

I mean, DQ's not a total pushover, but to lift a phrase from Slowflake this is supposed to be OUR THE SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEE

SMB beating FF and then getting killed by LoZ would really suck, though.

As for the match pic...

SSB: lol wavedash u die

And that's how SSB wins with 74% giving me a point for the Crew.

And I don't trust your initial instinct, because I'm betting that pre-SpC2k4 your initial instinct is just the opposite.

to be perfectly honest, my pre-Sp2K4 instinct said that Soul Calibur would put up a mighty fight against Kingdom Hearts and that i didn't understand why this board underestimated it so much. and that's on the books 150 or so topics ago. admittedly, i also knew before this contest that SC's popularity has certainly slid since then (SC3 barely made a dent anywhere). i also acknowledged that it's 2K4 ranking had to be taken with a grain of salt due to all of the Starcraft wackiness.

that being said, i'd still go with SC over DMC - but not by a whole lot.

SC2K2 - i took Tidus over Sonic.
SC2K3 - i took Yuna over Knuckles AND Wario over Shadow.

Well that's your own stupid fault X_X

what? they seemed like good picks at the time.... >_>

I'm actually bracing myself for a good amount of DQ whining tomorrow. It may not be unwarranted, but when perhaps the most respected RPG series of all time gets at least doubled by something that's barely a series, fans are going to be miffed.

No idea what's causing it, but the numbers for every poll are slightly off from what they were after 24 hours. For a couple of random examples, Kingdom Hearts had 81729 votes after 24 hours. Now it has 81735. Mario had 108512 votes after 24 hours. Now it has 108723. I know that someone has already noted that the poll hasn't been catching the final update for each match, but I thought that was fixed? And even if it isn't, almost nothing only manages 6 votes in five minutes, and it's like that for pretty much all the polls in the contest so far. Last year, there was some glitch that prevented the voting in Mario/Joanna Dark from closing. A couple of people used proxies to vote a few times afterwards as a test, and it worked. Was that glitch never fixed?
Message From GameFAQs at 2006-07-12 19:30:15
The final cache of the day was cleared for all previous polls; there were a few straggler votes that got in between the time of the last cache and the vote closing. There is no difference between the number of votes shown now and the official number of votes recorded at the close of the poll.

Does this mean I have to wait a little bit before updating my stats?

By the way, I went and fixed everything early this morning, though please note if you see any errors.
