Grand Theft Auto vs. Warcraft - Bracket: GTA - Vote: GTA (8/9)

Odd that you excuse Blizzard's one failure of a CHARACTER entrant but then use GTA's character in the opposite sense. Honestly, 46-47% on SSBM is pretty good.

Yeah, but... Vercetti was the main guy in his game. Kerrigan, not so much. Kerrigan was a character that not even the Blizzard fans gave a damn about, but Board 8 was dying to have in the contest for some reason. There's a much better case for a GTA main character to be strong than a Blizzard main character.

I'm not saying GTA's definitely weak. I'm just saying that there's definitely data that says to the contrary of the "46-47% on SSBM" impressiveness. And also... let's wait and see just how SSBM does. After Halo's flop, I've begun to worry a little bit about it. They're both current-gen series, they both only looked strong because of that weird, weird 128 division... let's not use SSBM (or, for that matter, the Spring 2k4 contest 128 division) as proof of anything yet.

And yes, I realize that saying that defeats some of my own argument that GTA's weak. Mayhaps that's something of a hunch on my part. Still, I think this is one of those things that is dangerous to decide for sure just yet. We don't want to end up with another Magus, do we?

Hmmm...Looks like the idea that perhaps relatively new series aren't standing up as well to the older, more established series could be in effect. GTA was popular before GTAIII, but it wasn't massively popular until then. Warcraft has been popular for several years before that.

Perhaps it's not just the number of games that makes the difference. Maybe there's a recency factor involved as well.

I don't think that that really comes in to play in this match. Niether series is really old or new.

This is not quite the dead of night vote yet, but I'm glad we saw a voting change. GTA seemed to hve some control even after board voting. Then the real night vote kicked in.

Well, I'm saying maybe that's part of the reason why GTA isn't quite as strong as some of us figured it might be. Not necessarily talking about Warcraft.

WarCraft is pretty old considering it started back in 1994. It might not have been really popular back then, but it's still 12 years old.

Yeah...if anything, this would seem to confirm my very VERY first impressions of GTA...that it didn't have a real hardcore following on GameFAQs and would tend to inspire a lot of apathy and anti-voting.

But I *thought* I had been disproven!

Ya know, the only reason these back and forth things could even happen at zero is cheating. It's so dumb. As far as actual voters go, they don't magically materialize to make a struggle apparent.
