Regular polls like that shouldn't be an indicator. It only got 58,000 votes. These matches have almost double that. if that's not good enough for ya, I can point to 46.5% vs. SSBM. I can't imagine WoW naturally getting that kind of support. either way, WoW in a Game Contest would be crazy to see. --- xyzzy |

I do find the fact that this match has THIS many votes a bit suspect. --- Commit it to memory. |

Regular polls like that shouldn't be an indicator. It only got 58,000 votes. These matches have almost double that. I know it's not an indicator of strength, but Warcraft has flopped in any poll we've had here, and GTA's games have done nothing but impress. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Roxas, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

I don't trust the poll of the days for WoW. I'm sure theres alot more players here that didin't even bother to answer. |

"I've got to wonder if GTA anti-voting is a serious factor here, on top
of the rallying. I mean, the series has had two runners-up and one
winner of GotY, and it's performing like THIS?" That's because GOTY or any non-contest polls are meaningless, and I have no idea why the analysis crew keeps bringing them up. If GTA does better with the day vote though, it'll probably win
decisively. The fact that there's only one night vote now doesn't bode
well for Starcraft-esque entries. But we've never seen WC in action, so who knows what it'll do? --- Commit it to memory. |

In 2001, there's no doubt that FFX would've beaten SSBM and handily at that. Square's presence was still very heavy then. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Roxas, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

I don't understand why everyone thought this was going to be a blowout.
Blizzard has never failed to impress in these contests (except with
Kerrigan, but that's understandable). GTA, however... Tenpenny bombed.
Vercetti's been underwhelming in every contest, just barely squeaking
by fairly weak opponents. And GTA: VC only beat KOTOR 60-40. I'm
surprised that Warcraft actually has a shot to win, really... but I
have it in my bracket, so I ain't complaining. Still, nice to see another fun match. --- Need new sig. |

I can't help but think that GTA will do really well during the day just
because of the type of series it is and who it appeals to. WarCraft
strikes me as something that would do really well at night whereas GTA
would do really well during the day. I suppose we'll find out soon
enough though ... --- "Building the future and keeping the past alive are one in the same thing." -- Solid Snake |

It's worth noting that Vercetti came back from down 1100 against
Kefka, a Square character on what is essentially Square's home site. It's worth noting that Kefka almost lost to Pac-Man, who is a jobber...and that Vercetti should have been winning for most of the match in the first place. ...but I see what you're getting at. --- Commit it to memory. |

Odd that you excuse Blizzard's one failure of a CHARACTER entrant but
then use GTA's character in the opposite sense. Honestly, 46-47% on
SSBM is pretty good. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Roxas, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

Focusing on only GAMES, Vice City got 46.5% on SSBM, which is *damn*
good. The only indicator of a flop were GTA's characters, and it's
never been thought of as a very character-centric game. But in the future you know they'll say "the writing was on the walls"... --- Commit it to memory. |

I will say it again. Both World of Warcraft and Warcraft II/III are stronger than most people thought coming into this contest. I dont think this match is because of a GTA weakness. --- Where am I? |

DK was not weak. Eh. He sorta was in 2k3. 62-38 on Vyse, and all. And I think Arcadia was weaker then than it was the year after that. Maybe he's stronger now, but you can't judge anyone all that well over how well they do against MC. He's a bit of a special case. --- Need new sig. |

Questions: How long have GTA and WC been around as series? And when did they become popular? Warcraft since 1993, didn't become REALLY popular until WC2 was released in 1995. GTA was released in 1997 and was a pretty big hit (million seller) but didn't reach gargantuan proportions until GTA3 in 2001. --- "Never argue with a fool, people may not tell the difference" - Murphy's Law |
