sales don't equal strength? So you think it's just a coincidence Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Pokemon dominate this contest?

Pokemon...dominate this contest? Since when? It didn't even double Star Ocean.

oh and Halo too, but Castlevania is CJay's favorite game so I think you can figure that one out

Bold Prediction: Street Fighter vs. Resident Evil will be the closest match of the contest, regardless of who wins.

Oh, great. Every contest there's someone who barges in, thinking he's figured out how these things work. And promptly and deservedly gets laughed out.

So, will Castlevania end up the match about 55%? It wouldn't make much of a difference as far as next round is concerned, but it's still a nice number. Especially considering the (alleged) caliber of the competition.

The more I think about it, the more obvious it seems to me that Halo's random vote spikes were the result of cheating. It sucks to be wrong, but it sucks even worse to be wrong by THIS MUCH!

Once again I blame HM for the result of this match.

For those of you who thought we'd finally have a match with a large percentage swing...Castlevania has been in the 54.90-55% range for the last 6 1/2 hours.

Now, WHOSE alt is it?

For whatever reason I'm putting my chips on Ulti.

Stop calling me a troll you troll. Wait until Madden makes it to the finals then. You laugh because I had Halo winning but it wasn't a fair match considering Castlevania had CJay on its side.
HaRRicH | Posted 7/8/2006 7:43:18 PM | message detail
Yeah, next time you'll have Castlevania winning it all.

As for CV avoiding the huge-ass swing, I'm going to make a guess and say the other CV games in the series played a huge part in that. We've seen Alucard and C:SotN both be pitiful with the day-vote and MC/Halo be excellent with it. However, since both of the series embody more than MC, Alucard, Halo, and C:SotN, where does that leave us? Halo 2 shouldn't hurt its series' day-vote at all...

...so I'm looking at the other games in the CV series, namely the handheld ones since we've seen several times that older games lose the day-vote and newer games win it (the polls from the Top Ten Contest are my main source, and it may have rung true in the Final Four and Championship of the Game Contest too). It also doesn't hurt that so much of CV's roots are Nintendo-based (as well as all of its handheld games) and Nintendo generally does better in the day than at night. Throw in the general strength of C:SotN -- no matter what time of the day it is -- and you have a good case for why Halo didn't make so much of an impact with the day-vote.

It's worth mentioning that HBO didn't link to today's match though...but if my GFA experiment is worth anything, it probably wouldn't have made it more than 2,000 votes closer, meaning CV would have still handled itself well in the day-vote today.

How much bracket support will Castlevania have?

Halo usually gets pretty good support, so I'll say Castlevania with 37.5% of brackets.

Halo had major support from the board and judging from the past, will probably have major casual strength. Halo will probably have 3/4 of the brackets.

Halo owns the casuals, Halo owned the board, and -- though CV does have the higher seed -- there was no visible seeding during the bracket-making period. I'm actually thinkin' something closer to Halo/Starcraft than 37.5%...I'll say 31%.

BOLD PREDICTION: CV/Halo will be the second-biggest first-round upset ever, only behind Halo/Starcraft.

Simon landed in the same area as Zidane or Geno, which isn't terrible. But I don't think he's worth bringing back. Richter is probably the only other Belmont that could do anything, and Soma's probably the best bet for a second CV character. I'm not sold on either of them being too far above the fodder line, if at all, though.

Madden could maybe beat Harvest Moon and Shadow Hearts.

MAYBE.

I'd take it over those, plus Star Ocean and Civilization without much thought. I'd consider it over Silent Hill and Suikoden as well.

Huh?

And this performance by Castlevania today does not mean we need to see another Castlevania character make the contest. Well, I mean, it'd be great to see, but they're not going to have very much notable strength. This is the entire Castlevania series in today's poll, which is far more than any one character or one game in the series could ever think of doing. Big, big difference.
