You'll hear lots of "Why did EGM lie about Sonic in SSBM?" cries. If Sonic was in, perhaps fans of both would overwhelmingly go to SSB.

I will say that on the off-chance it wasn't actually Starcraft's fault, but SSBM overperforming on FFVII, that SSB is in a HELL of a lot of trouble come Sonic.

Yes, I'm sure that SSBM over performed by 20,000 votes.

Or, you know, maybe Castlevania is a hell of a lot stronger than SotN. Maybe that makes more sense.
swirIdude | Posted 7/8/2006 1:58:01 PM | message detail
The handheld Castlevanias really did a good job expanding the audience, if this match is any indication.

You once again ignore SotN and how badly Goldeneye got SFFed. SotN is still a big part, yo.

And if you really wanted to get deep, there's also Soul Calibur. One can be written off, but two...?

I think CV/KH will help us predict SSB/Sonic. if this is CV's natural strength, it'll give KH a fight. if KH rolls over it, I'd put my money on SSB.

MM/MK will help predict it as well. classic series with a zillion games vs. Mario spinoff series.

That is true. If Castlevania can pull the same number on Kingdom Hearts next round, Sonic's chances look better.

On a completely unrelated side note, the woman who won Wimbledon looks like a man.

For me, Sonic does have a large amount of games but really has run out of steam lately. Expect DMC to give it a good run for it's money. Then again, I could say the exact same thing about Castlevania.

agreed, though I don't think DMC is much at all here. Sonic would have to go into the 70's to really scare me.

Whoa, Castlevania just got an update like it was night time again.

For the record, that was Halo being fluky that time. Still, Castlevania has only lost 1.3% with the day vote so far, which is rather impressive.

I'd be shocked if CV was held below 40%. I'd say... 55-45, at the moment. in KH's favour of course.

I'm curious about the prediction percentage of this match... I don't think it's nearly as low as the board's. I'd say 45% or so.

I believe he was implying that KH would struggle to get itself above 40%.

And yeah...for all this, my logic still dictates that if you put a gun to my head, I pick KH here. But I would have done the same with this match, and all it would have accomplished would have been my brains getting blown out.

The only thing this match proves is you cant judge ANY of these matches by the Games or Character contest. I thought, like many, that people's feeling about certain games would fairly reflect on the series as well. If this match proves anything it is that isnt true.

Expect more suprises.

I thought, like many, that people's feeling about certain games would fairly reflect on the series as well.

I still have no idea why people thought that. People may not take the entire series one by one in individual voting, but the entire series DOES get taken into consideration one way or another by the entire voting pool.

That may not make sense to you, but I know exactly what I mean.

I do, too. I consider the Mario series better than any series out there, including Metal Gear. This is despite the fact that I find every Metal Gear Solid game to be superior to the best Mario game.

I don't even take it into consideration. When I think of the Mario series, I don't think of any specific game. I think of an entire series of great games.

LeonhartForever | Posted 7/8/2006 2:36:40 PM | message detail
Yeah, seeing how Chrono would have performed would be interesting. I suppose we'll be able to guestimate based off of Halo and SSB, though it likely has a more diverse fanbase between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Plus, there's the "Love one, hate the other" issue.

I think Chrono after watching this match might not have performed well. Chrono Cross just isnt liked that much and I think would have detracted from the votes the series got.

But I actually think this match proves to me even more that Sonic is going to lose SSB. Sonic's recent games have been not well received and I think they might detracted from the series as a whole. I can say personally I used to consider Sonic one of my favorite series, but I havent enjoyed a Sonic game since the original Adventure and it has really taken away a lot of my nostalgia.

It not only held strong during the day, but actually increased its lead over the course of it! Metal Gear v. Castlevania is happening!

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 have a pretty healthy following and fanbase. Sure, it's nothing compared to the old-school games, and there's nothing like alienation, but the same 'diversity' theory that's been tossed around for FF should come into play for Sonic too, if it holds true.

Sonic Heroes takes hits, although it also has its fanbase. It doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I will admit that if anything takes away from the series it's StH, but I hope we Sonic fans can adopt a 'DMC2' approach with that one...

Personally, I would take Sonic Adventure 2 over any Castlevania game other than Symphony of the Night. In regards to recent games, I would say Sonic has just enough support as Castlevania.
