Just for fun, I decided to go through all the previous contests and
check out the fodder vs. fodder matches we've had. Ceej's bracket
balancing has certainly improved since 2k2. The Grand Analysis of The Matches Between Two Losers No One Cares About (aka the Freeman Fun Club) 2002: Morrigan Aensland vs. Spyro the Dragon I realize Morrigan looked pretty damn strong in 2k2, but try to tell me with a straight face that these two losers wouldn't stink up the house nowadays. Just try. Aya Brea vs. Terry Bogard In an Aya vs. DK rematch, DK doubles Aya. At minimum. Duke Nukem vs. Iori Yagami I'm actually rather curious as to how Duke would do after/if Duke Nukem Forever's released. Pikachu vs. Parapper the Rapper Do you think Pikachu would do better or worse now than in 2k2? Lara Croft vs. Chop Chop Master Onion How in the HELL did Chop Chop ever make the cut? And would Lara do better post-TR Legend or is she still crap? Ryo Hazuki vs. Guybrush Threepwood XD, this was back in the day when people still cared about Shenmue. Ryo Hazuki would be a prime contender for last place in any contest held nowadays. Tina Armstrong vs. Gordon Freeman Is Freeman even fodder anymore? He looked a helluva lot stronger with HL2 under his belt. Pac-Man vs. Goemon XD at Pac-Man getting 72% on ANYTHING. If there was a Pac-Man/Goemon rematch right now, does Pac do better or worse? Kyo Kusanagi vs. Abe I seriously had to think for a solid 30 seconds about who these guys even were. Abe's from Oddworld and I believe Kyo is from KoF. It's almost painful to think how weak these two would be in a contest nowadays. Scorpion vs. Kazuya Mishima If Scorpion faces Link today, Link gets 80+% on him. Mortal Kombat ain't getting any stronger, and Scorpion was already borderline fodder in 2k2. Max Payne vs. Dirk the Daring XD, this was when Max freaking Payne was able to make the cut. I'm still shocked that this match got less votes then stuff like Kyo vs. Abe or Sam vs. Driller. Max is at least semi-semi-recognizable, isn't he? Bomberman vs. Kane This is the 12th fodder match and I'm not even out of 2k2's first round yet. I had to remind myself about 3 times in a row that the Kane in this match was not the wrestler. Command and Conquer is one of those series whose existence you forget about for a few years, but then you're reminded of it and a wave of nostalgia comes over you. And then you forget about it again. Strider Hiryu vs. Raziel If either of these guys could avoid the bottom 10 of whatever bracket they made it into nowadays, I'd be floored. Strider does look pretty damn cool, though. Serious Sam vs. Mr. Driller Ah, the fodder match to end all fodder matches. Our weakest character of all time versus our 3rd weakest character of all time. To be honest, I'd bank on these two actually doing better nowadays then they did in 2k2, simply because of the larger voter turnout. But I'm talking 62nd place instead of 63rd here. Crash Bandicoot vs. Ulala And we reach the end of 2k2's first round. In a match between Crash and Laharl, who wins? More in next post. |

Lara Croft vs. Ryo Hazuki XD, these were the days when someone could beat a Shenmue character with less than 60%. Pac-Man vs. Kyo Kusanagi Again I had to stop for a few moments and strain to remember who exactly Kyo is. How does an icon like Pac fail to double an absolute 100% no-name like this? Scorpion vs. Max Payne And Scorpion continues his ridiculous run through the weakest contest division of all time. Do you think 2k2 South would have exactly the same results if it were done over again now? Jill Valentine vs. Bomberman Okay, Jill isn't technically fodder, but after RE4 and Meester Scott Kennedy, no one gives a **** about her anymore. How badly would Leon SFF her in match between the two? Scorpion vs. Pac-Man It's almost embarrassing that we're still getting matches like this in Round 3. This was also one of the biggest upsets in the contest, IIRC. Not that it really mattered, since Scorpion got absolutely smoked by Link. Do you think Pac-Man does better if there were a rematch between the two today? And 2k2 is complete. 'Twil be finished in the next post. |

That picture looks like Fire Emblem v. Silent Hill 2. Silent Hill is bigger than 2, Ceej! And I doubt Roy in the picture does anything significant...I didn't even recognize him. As for Ike and Eliwood, I think I speak for the majority of GameFAQs when I say...who? |

I'm complaining about Fire Emblem's pic? News to me. I'm just saying Roy's presence in the picture isn't going to be the reason Fire Emblem does any better in this match, because SSBM fans simply aren't going to recognize him. Fire Emblem's going to be doing this all on its own strength (or rather, Silent Hill's lack thereof). |

2003: KOS-MOS vs. Crash Bandicoot I know KOS-MOS looked relatively strong at the time, but everyone has long since stopped caring about Xenosaga. KOS-MOS vs. Scorpion. Predict. Kefka vs. Pac-Man Trivia: I had Kefka going to the FINALS in my 2k3 bracket. Him vs. Cloud. Ironically, I predicted almost every other debated match in the contest correctly: Cloud over Link, Mega Man over Snake, Mega Man over Vercetti, Mario over Crono, Bowser over Yoshi, Ryu over Dante, Alucard over Kirby, Magus over Ganondorf, Zelda over Lara, Knuckles over Yuna, Kirby over Ramza, and Zero over Scorpion. Still got Squall/Jill, Squall/Luigi, Gordon/Max (go ahead, laugh!), Wario/Shadow, and Master Chief/Felix wrong, though. Max Payne vs. Gordon Freeman A memorable quote from Ulti's 2003 analysis: "Gordon Freeman's game is not called Gordon Freeman." I believe this is when the idea of GFNW was first thrown around. Sp2004: Metroid vs. Pac-Man Jesus, who was voting for the original Metroid? The game sucks ass. Phantasy Star vs. Contra This was the first match where RPG factor was used as the sole argument for one side. Apparently that was enough to make a freaking Master System game stronger than one of the best-selling games on the NES. Pong vs. River City Ransom I remember there was actually talk of a RCR win for this match. To that, I have only to say "LOL". Tetris vs. Galaga I was actually surprised at how poorly Tetris did in the X-stats when I went back and looked at the stats. Pitfall vs. Galaga. Predict. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance vs. Fire Emblem Worst contest match of all time. FFTA is like the joke version of Fire Emblem. FFTA technically isn't fodder going by the X-stats; I just felt like reiterating the fact that FFTA sucks. Badly. Tetris vs. Pong Space Invaders vs. Pong. Predict. Gogogogogogo. 2004: Vyse vs. Laharl Is it just me, or does this match scream "FODDER" more loudly than any other contest match, ever? Ryu Hayabusa vs. Jill Valentine Remember the days when we thought Hayabusa was the next up-and-coming contest powerhouse? lol. Sam Fisher vs. Gordon Freeman Gordon Freeman vs. CATS. Predict. Sp2005: Every match that didn't involve Sephiroth, Ganondorf, or Bowser. I'm way too lazy to write them all out. 2005: Lloyd Irving vs. Albert Wesker Remember the days when everyone thought Lloyd would match Knuckles in strength? Big fat LOL. Ceej's bracket-making ability had improved so much by this point that Lloyd/Wesker is actually the only fodder match in the whole contest. Hooray for Ceej. --- "Thank you, Mario. Match VI: (4) Fire Emblem vs. (5) Silent Hill Games in series Fire Emblem (NES, JP1990) Fire Emblem Gaiden (NES, JP1992) Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo (SNES, JP1994) Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (SNES, JP1996) Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (SNES, JP1999) Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi (GBA, JP2002) Fire Emblem (GBA, 2003) Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA, 2005) Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GC, 2005) Silent Hill (PS, 1999) Silent Hill 2 (PS2, 2001) Silent Hill 3 (PS2, 2003) Silent Hill 4: The Room (PS2, 2004) Analysis: I’ve never played either of these series so I guess you know how excited I am about this match. Fire Emblem is a RPG that is split into chapters. Each one has a different main character and a slightly different story, but has very similar game play. Silent Hill is a horror game and in Silent Hill weird things happen from monster sightings to disappearances. Each game from the series has a different main character; can they make it out alive? If one match is not going to break 100k it would be this one. This is the match where neither thing deserves to go to the next round, like Serious Sam vs. Mr. Driller, Max vs. Gordon Freeman, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance vs. Fire Emblem, Vyse vs. Laharl, Wesker vs. Luca and Lloyd vs. Wesker from the past. The only saving grace, like most of the matches above is that this match is debatable on who will win. Even though Fire Emblem has been around longer and has more games, most of them were only released in Japan. The Fire Emblem series made its appearance outside of Japan during 2003 and will probably get most of its strength from Fire Emblem (7). The other two games that were released outside of Japan were during times where support for the GBA and GC were at an all time low. Also the picture vote was supposed to be a big factor for this match, but even though the picture does contain Roy, it isn’t the SSBM version of him that many Fire Emblem supporters were hoping for. Silent Hill was one of those series where the first game made a huge splash while the rest of the series, whether it was better or worse didn’t make as much noise. Silent Hill also had a movie released not so long ago, but according to various reviews and friends I take it wasn’t that well received and has been mostly forgotten. There you have it, two series with almost nothing going for both of them other than Fire Emblem being the top choice. My take on the pictures: FE/SH. Not bad, but I am pissed that Hector, the most awesome FE character of all time did not make the cut. CV/Halo. Decent, though I still think Simon Belmont looks goofy. Hey, the Fire Emblem pic turned out pretty good. Ike's awesome, one of
the most popular characters of FE9 and apparently sometimes mistaken
for Marth. =D Roy is there but no Marth. But if CJayC is using official
