Thats the thing....they're both pretty obscure yoblazer. So how does Xenogears happen to have a bigger one? Xenogears is Squaresoft. Star Ocean isn't. How is this hard to understand? Every single non-Square RPG anything has proven to be total crap in these contests. Why is this a surprise? Board 8 has always overrated the living hell out of RPG entities in these contests. If you're a non-Square RPG anything in these polls, you're probably going to end up fodder. "There's very little difference between the two (Pikachu and Pokemon) in the eyes of the voting audience." I disagree completely. Pikachu represents everything everyone hates about pokemon: the overexposed, marketing, cuddly-cute image. That's what causes pokemon to be anti-voted so much. When you say pikachu, people think about the horrid TV show and massive marketing campaigns. When you say pokemon, people remember the nostalgic times battling their friends over lunch, desperately trying not to get caught by the teachers. And, judging by the poll right now, I'd say I'm correct. --- During the struggle, all Hayner could think about was Roxas' balls. |

Another dip in percentage, but the percentage of votes Pokemon is
getting each update has been increasing. That update, it got 69.17% of
the vote. Pokemon should be comfortable from here on out, even if it completely bombs the day vote. --- sig |

I can't really tell you for sure, since I've never completed a Japanese RPG in my life (unless you count Pokemon). All I know is that I've heard people talk about Xenogears for years, and the first time I've ever actually noticed someone mention Star Ocean was when HM began arguing for it. --- Board 8: Where Wii treat each other right. |

I suppose it wasn't the smartest thing to do to doubt Pokemon's place

I don't get it though Ulti. Whats the difference between how Xenogears can have strength, but not SO? BLATANT ANALYSIS PLUG! 2. Speaking of Xenogears, people seem to forget that it was in an SFF match with FFVII. People see that it got a solid 19.97% and assumed that it probably didn’t get SFF’d at all. Look closer. Xenogears and FFVII were simultaneous Square projects on the PSX. With most of Square’s resources going to FFVII, Xenogears was delayed. Parasite Eve was the next big Square hit for the PSX. Parasite Eve came with a Xenogears demo. Xenogears was released later that year. Given FFVII’s immense popularity then, most people who bought Xenogears were undoubtedly people who bought or at least played FFVII. They pretty much share the exact same fanbase. As for Xenogears’ sales numbers, those are a bit skewed since Xenogears wasn’t mass-produced. It became a commodity on the used market, and the demand for the game became so great that Square re-released it as a greatest hit 3 years later. Xenogears didn’t beat Pokemon because of Pokemon’s weakness. It was due to Xenogears’ strength. Geez, this is like when Master Hand tearassed into Kuja and you were
all fantasizing on how strong it was and how it would take the
four-pack. REALITY CHECK 1.) Metroid will KILL Pokemon (just for anyone that needed it). 2.) Pokemon loses to Xenogears in any shape or form. Yeah, the whole series loses to it. 3.) Pokemon loses to everything that isn't a 7 or 8 seed in this contest aside from Fire Emblem, Silent Hill, and possibly The Elder Scrolls. It also loses to multiple 7/8 seeds. It's not strong. SO is weak. |
