Match III: (3) Pokemon vs. (6) Star Ocean Games in series Pokemon Green (GB, JP1996) Pokemon Red (GB, 1998) Pokemon Blue (GB, 1998) Pokemon Yellow (GB, 1999) Pokemon Gold (GBC, 2000) Pokemon Silver (GBC, 2000) Pokemon Crystal (GBC, 2001) Pokemon Ruby (GBA, 2003) Pokemon Sapphire (GBA, 2003) Pokemon FireRed (GBA, 2004) Pokemon LeafGreen (GBA, 2004) Pokemon Emerald (GBA, 2005) Star Ocean (SNES, JP1996) Star Ocean: The Second Story (PS, 1999) Star Ocean Blue Sphere (GBC, JP2001) Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (PS2, 2004) Analysis: Finally a debatable match and it’s probably the only one in this division. First we have Pokemon. It’s about the adventure of a boy/girl who gets a pokemon from Professor *insert tree here* and sets off to become the greatest Pokemon master ever by battling through various different types of gyms and beating the best of the best. Also don’t forget to catch ‘em all. Star Ocean is an RPG and from what I can get it’s about a story that takes place in the future where a group of people team up to cure a virus that turns people into stone. Now like I said this is a very debatable match and to find out why we must go back into contest history. Pokemon has had terrible past contests experiences from Pikachu barely beating PaRappa to Pokemon G/S/C losing to Xenogears, but many people seem to compare this match to Xenogears/Pokemon G/S/C. At the time Pokemon hate was still live and well and even though the match was suppose to be close Xenogears became the safe bet and lucky for us Xenogears won the match. Now fast forward two years, Pokemon hate has really died down on Board 8 and on many other social boards. Even at school there aren’t that many people calling Pokemon the games kiddy. Sure there’s still some hate like in many other mainstream things (like Xbox), but you can’t tell me the hate hasn’t drop over the past two years. Star Ocean is far from cult like some people may think. They aren’t very vocal, but many people have played a game from the Star Ocean series and most of those people loved it. Sure it’s not as mainstream as Pokemon, but fair shares of people know and love the series. You’d be surprised at the amount of people that know about this series, I know I was. The question for this match becomes how much anti-votes Pokemon will have and will it be enough with the combined strength of Star Ocean fans to win the match. For once the match picture will become a big factor in deciding the match. Let’s take a look... http://www.gamefaqs.com/shared/bse/bse03.jpg The reason why the match picture is more important in this match then in other is the Pokemon, like Pac-Man is so universally known that everyone knows about it, but even though there is lovers and haters there still that group that don’t really care about the series or were ex-haters and don’t have an opinion on the series and the picture might sway their vote. The picture isn’t as bad as I thought it might have been, but it still isn’t that great; at least have Charizard, Blastoise, some other starter final evolution or even a legendary Pokemon. How much will this affect Pokemon? Well if this was suppose to be a 50/50 match or even Pokemon with 51% this could cost them the match. Being the big Pokemon fan that I am, I’m predicting that even with the picture Pokemon will win pretty easily and I hope they really capitalize on the Japanese vote, but I wouldn’t really be surprised if Star Ocean went out with the upset. charmander6000’s Bracket: Pokemon over Star Ocean charmander6000’s Prediction: Pokemon wins, 54.59% - 45.41% --- "I was trying to escape. Oh WHAT THE ****. I'm not even upset about Pikachu being front and center in the match pic. I'd just like to see Mewtwo front and center one of these days. Metroid purists are funny, though. They want every game to be like OUR THE SUPER METROID, then when they remake the original to be a lot like OUR THE SUPER METROID, they complain. Those are the same idiots who say Metroid Prime ruined the series. I'm a bit of a purist, but I loved Prime. I loved Prime 2, too, just not as much. ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. I'm a pretty big Super Metroid fan, but I hardly care for the original. In fact, it's probably my least
favorite Metroid of them all. I don't see how purist can defend it.

Metroid is the worst Metroid, hands down. Zero Mission, on the other
hand, is my favorite 2D one. (Another one of my unpopular opinions. If
I wrote up my 25 favorite games/characters, everyone would die from an

And Prime is my favorite Metroid game, actually, though I liked Fusion and Zero Mission. Original Metroid was kinda boring. The Prime series is my favorite too. I did love the hell out of Zero
Mission and Super Metriod as well. Fusion gets undeserved hate. The
only Metroid game I disliked was the original. On another note, I say MMX gets 72.18% of brackets. --- That... was her final mission. And like a true soldier, she saw it through the end. ZSB [aX] |

That's what I think. I don't have it on my favorites list, but it's still in the outskirts. Think #26-30. That pokemon pic wouldn't be so bad if pikachu wasn't taking up most of
it. I still think poemon will win though, and at least the pokemon side
of the pic has a much, much bigger presence then the highly generic

Ooh, good thing Tranny reminded me. Gotta go take care of some things before the awesomeness begins. As for the analyses, I posted them in the Crew topic, but it's just too much to repost here. So...yeah. Summary: Crew favors Pokemon except HM. All of us calling it close except Soul. Super Metroid is my #6 overall game, but I can admit that the gameplay
of Zero Mission is improved. I like Super Metroid for more than the
gameplay though. I loved the atmosphere of that game, and the
soundtrack added a lot to that. I never got that feel from Zero
Mission. I definitely got that feel from Metroid Prime, but I enjoyed the 2D platforming of Super Metroid more. I also agree that Fusion is underrated. I just didn't like the linearity of it and how the game held your hand. The SA-X was awesome though. | Metroid might need to stop with the whole "The only thing that can stop Samus is, of course, ANOTHER SAMUS" schtick, though. SA-X, it worked, Dark Samus gave her game a reason for still being named Metroid Prime 2 other than cool points. Let's not go overboard... |

it's kind of like Suikoden or Shadow Hearts - they may not be large in
number, but they're vocal. all RPG fans seem to like flaunting their
