I didn't. I figured it would be more popular than the Villains Contest, but that people wouldn't care as much because it wasn't the Summer Contest.

I never got why some people thought this. This is much closer to the Games Contest than any other contest out there, except this includes every game from a series put under one voting option. That has huge potential, and we're seeing it using every ounce of that potential right now. It never made sense for this to be an unpopular contest.

Speaking of the Summer Contest, are things only going up from here?

I doubt it. I think the high votals have to do with the timing of the contest (holiday weekend in Canada and the US) and possibly also because of Gamespot users.

Yes, because obviously a few posts about LoZ approaching an unheard of 100k votes is as bad as twenty posts a minute talking about imaginary vote barriers, and how Vercetti has gotten five votes closer to taking the lead.

You read my posts, good. Now go back and this time imagine them laden with copious amounts of sarcasm, designed to poke fun at all the people at the beginning of the match imploring individuals to post updates in the OMG SPECIAL UPDATE TOPICS

Then come back.

How about you keep your rants involving your failure to write sarcasm out of this topic and instead focus on the contest so that you don't further embarrass yourself?

It should hit 100k by 11:50. 90% is not looking good, though.

It never made sense for this to be an unpopular contest.

Unpopular? No, I still expected around 90K for most matches, and 100K for the later and closer matches.

But records being shattered on the first match? Didn't see that coming at all.

Or alternatively, I could stay here and you could calm the hell down. Believe it or not your exaggerations were obvious, and you're still overreacting to the situation. I don't really feel like getting involved in any arguments over something this trivial (I still cringe over my 200 debate with chuchiri over a comment I made about cloud possessing less personality then black mage from FF1) and I doubt you do either.

These are some INSANE vote numbers. The Legend of Zelda breaking 100,000 by itself? Holy crap.

And it looks like it might break the game LoZ's record for margin of victory against Adventure, despite Civilization having 2-3 times more votes, heh.

I think it was TRE who made the early comparison of this match's vote totals to Link/Magus. Looks like it's going to be fairly close to the same amount there. We're looking at top 25 all time for most total votes just in this match.

I prefer 8-Bit Theatre BM over Cloud, myself.

I prefer the plain non-talking back mage from ff1 over cloud, but I generally openly state my opinion on him anymore to avoid flame-wars.

And believe it or not, I don't hate ff7, even though I thoguht cloud was a terrible main character and sephiroth was a terrible villain, but meh. The main cast surrounding them made up for what they lack... well except for cait sith.

Another factor would be the length of the off-season. I'm sure Sc2k5 and 4 would've gotten more inital votes if the spring contests weren't there.

With some 45,000+ brackets, I would expect that to help out LoZ because I would think that there would be a greater percentage of serious brackets out there. Heck, Link broke 99% prediction percentage against AiAi in 2003, if I recall correctly.

Probably because of the "meh" predictability of this contest. It gives off the feeling that nobody cares about this contest as much as a good character battle. But that's irrelevant to the actual popularity of the entrants of this contest.

As for prediction percentage, I'm wondering how many zero and favorites brackets there are. I mean, we're looking at over 40,000 brackets. With all the alts around here, I'm sure there are a ton of zeros and favorites, as well as alternates. I know I have 2 other brackets myself in addition to my main.
