I'm torn on that match, but I think SSB is the safer pick.

Well I've delibarated about it all the time, but think about it....just about any time a solid Nintendo-franchise character goes up against a Sonic character, the Nintendo character generally wins.

Infact, I'm willing to bet this contest will really come down to FF/Zelda, SH/FE(meh, maybe) and the Gear Division in general, MM/MK, and well...thats about it really.

Also, XIII pick XIII. That game gets little to no love around here, and it's one of the best FPS' on the market. It's certainly my favorite from this gen.

Yeah, but there's the whole games =/= characters thing and the whole SSB only having two games in the series thing.

The whole "SSB won't win because it only has two games" thing is complete BS.

Are you telling me that people will look at SSB/Sonic and think "Well, SSBM owns any Sonic game to death, but it since Sonic has way more games I'd better vote for him."?

Come on, people. This is ridiculous. SSB will have absolutely no trouble putting away Sonic.

^^^ no, but because Sonic has a lot more games, a lot more people have played a Sonic game. SSBM is a strong game, but might not be a strong series

And recently of course, Sonic has fallen massively with gamer's opinions with very weak entries while SSB is one of the most anticipated games for the Wii. Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>Sega.

SSB and SSBM are recent. Whereas, the only recent Sonic games that have come out are collections of the old ones, or they sucked.

Nostalgia's not gonna be enough to carry Sonic against such a strong series that only shows signs of getting stronger.

BUY OR SELL: Metal Gear (Solid) not making the Final Four.

Sell it. Metal Gear is the strongest series in that division. It will struggle, but still beat the Halo/KH winner.

BUY OR SELL: Zelda being a real threat to Final Fantasy in the finals.

I'm buying this. Although FF is the favorite and my pick to win, Zelda, with the help of the Nintendo shift and with Twilight Princess getting closer and closer, Zelda could make things interesting with FF in the final.

BUY OR SELL: Mario being a real threat to Final Fantasy.

I'm selling on this one. We all saw Mario's success in the Character Battle last year, but what happened to him against Sephiroth? Granted, the series' will likely be stronger, but the only threat I see FF facing being Zelda. I don't think the Mario series is on either of their levels right now.

BUY OR SELL: Madden suffering the biggest blowout.

Sell it. Civilization, nuff said.

BUY OR SELL: A series will be blown out in the 90s.

Buy. The highest anyone will go is the mid-80s. There won't be a series weak enough to suffer an Adventure-like blowout.

BUY OR SELL: No match being decided by less than 2000 votes.

Sell that. Halo/KH will be epic.

Beloved on 7 continents...idolized by peeps from the days of the Odyssey to fledglings brought up on the DS Lite...he is...

Steve Illumina

Thats right, fanbabies and fans, I am back...and to think you all thought I was driven away by that fluke run by SSBM last year that shattered my bracket dreams...or that horrific defeat of my fav game of all time, FFVI, at the hands of that silly Link to the Past! Rubbish!

Now, it is time, to SPEAK!

Death Mountain Division, Round 1, Battle 1
The Legend of Zelda vs Sid (Cid?) Meier's Civilization

Sage of Board 8's Pick: Zelda
Newbie's Pick: Zelda
Jaded PC Gamer's (Aint PC Gaming Dead Yet?) Pick: Civ
Blowout Potential: Extreme

Comments: Well kiddies, we start things off this year with the traditional round 1 blowout...*looks for CATS* And that would be Nintendo's greatest series taking on one of the PC's finest from a historical worth perspective, that being Civilization.

Now, Civilization, for all you half-wits raised on a healthy dose of Halo and Grand Theft Auto, with a little SOCOM on the side, was one of the first of its kind. An RTS with a historical perspective, where you could not only have fun playing the game, but, you could learn something too! And to think games could not teach ya nothing. Now if I can just get MMX to return that copy of Oregon Trail to me he borrowed 2 years ago...but I digress...

Civ 3, I feel, was the best in its series, but the problem here is no matter how good Civ games are, they dont hold a candle to Sid's greatest achievement: SimCity. Now those games were damn good..and they should be here instead of Civ. They should be here to take the beating from Zelda that represents PC gaming taking a beating as a whole today at the hands of the consoles. It is a dying genre, holding on to glimmers of hope, even though the release of every new console system drives another nail into its coffin...

Obviously, loyal Nintendites, Zelda will win this within...oh...10 seconds? No more analysis is needed. Zelda is just too loved, too worshipped, and who cant hum the classic overworld music from Zelda 1? :)

Now I will sit back and wait for the next Command and Conquer game...another series that belongs here in this tourney... *weeps*

Hehe I read some replies to my post on Page 13 of this topic and I must admit, some of them were right, and I apologize for not finishing my column last year.

It is true..I was so angry that FFVI got beat...it still burns me up inside! *chuckles*

And..and..oh give me a tissue, I cant go on!

But I will finish it this year...this bracket of mine is airtight...lol....hmmmm

Tatsumaki Senpuu | Posted 7/1/2006 7:59:32 AM | message detail
If it got a path like Zelda's, I could imagine it doing better than it is in this poll. I would imagine most people who have seen the bracket know that Halo is in the same division right now, and you have to imagine many people think Halo has that division.

I would imagine it still ends up getting far too a high percentage even with a different place though.
