So am I the only one who hasn't sent any analyses yet? I have 3/4ths of the first round done, but I want to send the first round all at once.

But I can send the first division now if you wanted them with a little more breathing room.

I've got a gimmick... I'm not linking to any polls in my analyses. I'll reference them, yeah, but no actual links. Okay, maybe it's partially just laziness to not get the actual links as well, but I figure my fellow analyzers will be shoving all polls I reference down your throats anyway. Just trust me, eh? I was gonna mention that in my intro, but since we don't have em, I'll just say it now.

Waluigi needs to have an actual game before I'd be comfortable with him in SSB...he's the product of party games, specifically created so Luigi could have a similar opposite to himself...kinda like Daisy, except she actually played a role in a previous game (notably Mario's girl on the side in SML). And let's not forget Wario has actually had the role of a major villain in SML2, and the Wario Land games trump any platformer Mario's had on handhelds.

Not that Nintendo probably cares...and that's more or less a good thing, seeing as how Snake's in SSBB, but yeah.

As an aside, I realized AGAIN that Snake will actually be in SSBB. Strange times we live in.

mnm hasn't sent any yet either.

I plan to post the first analyses either the night of lockdown or Sunday, depending on when the Contest begins, so as long as something is in by then, it's all good.

More like, proof of how strong Mario Kart 64 is! Yoshi's the best in that game, other than maybe Wario.

You need to jump off your MK64 horse and convert to Mario Kart DS. I know it's hard to let go. I used to be as high as you on Mario Kart 64. But once I mastered MKDS, I just couldn't go back to MK64. It just seemed so clunky and outdated. All Mario Kart DS needed was to take the good tracks from MK64...

More randomness: what are the chances of Wario getting into SC2k7 (i.e., the contest after SSBB's release)?

Better question: what are the chances are of SSBB coming out before SC2k7? It can either come out in the spring (when SMG comes out), in the summer (big games are rarely released in the summer), or in the fall, which is most likely. It's not even all that far along in development. People expecting it to come out early in the year are in for a major disappointment, IMO.

As for the actual chances of Wario getting in in 2k8...not terribly likely. There are supposed to be even more characters in SSBB than in SSBM, which would decrease his prominence while vaulting others above him. There're going to be tons of other, better contenders (FFXII characters, FFXIII character, Zelda TP characters, MGS4 characters, MP3 characters, even Halo 3 characters).

I just finished up FF/Diablo. I only linked to polls in like one or two write-ups, so it won't be much of a gimmick for you. Sorry buddy. I figured everyone else would be linking to them, so I thought it would be overkill for me to do it as well. It would be funny if nobody does it thinking that the next person will do the work.

I'm pretty happy with my write-ups. The one I'm most proud of is a match I didn't take seriously at all. <3 I'll be done tomorrow.

Super Mario Kart kicks ass and don't let anybody ever tell you any different. I just beat 150 again the other day. I always get enjoyment out of that. No worrying about power slide boosts. Just pure racing!

Err... I'm not linking to anything. I had no idea people were actually linking to stuff. >_>

Anyway, I just might have to agree in Diddy Kong Racing being better than any and all Mario Kart games. The major downside to DKR is the inclusion of only two true battle arenas, but that's not a big deal when you look at all it offers.

Like Lopen, I was too lazy just to find them in the midst of a write-up, so I didn't bother going to find them. Besides, by this point, the point of old polls has been so driven into our minds that we know what someone else is referring to when they mention one.

MK64 was great. Biggest flaw is the darn rubberband AI. Seriously, instead of making the same two characters keep on your tail for the whole circut no matter how well you're doing, why can't all the opponents be that good. Though, once you got a big lead, it would feel pretty good.

It's toned down in Double Dash!! and DS, which is good. Still, the AI needs to be better.

And DKR, while great, still falls a bt short of MK64 for me.

I find that happening a lot with N64 games of mine lately, most are losing their luster or look pitifully bad, unlike my SNES or even NES games. A few gems are the exception, like Majora's Mask and some weird ones...like Shadows of the Empire. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, which is actually better to me now than when I played it before (finally beat that bastard on Jedi mode).

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, which is actually better to me now than when I played it before (finally beat that bastard on Jedi mode).

Hard mode was actually harder than Jedi Mode to me. Jedi Mode really wasn't that bad at all, since it was one hit kills going both ways. In hard mode, enemies could kill you in 3 or so hits while you had to hit them like 20 times to kill them. It got really annoying once I got to the Imperial Freighter Suprosa.

More like, proof of how strong Mario Kart 64 is! Yoshi's the best in that game, other than maybe Wario.

I believe in this theory that Yoshi's won those polls because of Mario's spin-off games, especially Mario Kart...but you know what could be scary?

Mega Man SFF'd Yoshi.

I pray that Harrich doesn't have any more of that comparing 1% performances nonsense in his write-ups!

Ruh-roh.

I had to do SOMETHING for that damned match.

You know, I've heard GoldenEye has aged horribly. I haven't played that game in at least 6-7 years. I wonder what it'd be like if I picked it up now.

I did earlier this week for the first time in probably five years...and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. It takes some getting used to, but if you ever had the feel down before, you can get right back into the rhythm with just a bit of time.

Shadows of the Empire sucked on numerous levels. Goldeneye also sucks nowadays. It is so incredibly dated -- most games didn't age well back then anyway.

And I linked to a few polls in my write-ups. Nothing overly excessive, I don't think.

So what? SFF always goes like this: The contestant that is legitimately stronger always takes advantage of that fact. If MK is legitimately stronger than MM it still wins, and we have to guess about how badly it SFF'd MM.

I decided to one-up TRE: I've wrote some scripts to download all of the poll data up to the present and parse it into a nice little text file. For a listing of all polls (pollid + date + question + results), goto

http://www.geocities.com/aprosenf/allpolls.txt (668 KB)

Note: their might be some missing/garbled data, due to inconsistencies in the HTML used to render the poll results. I tried to quickly look through it to make sure there were no gaping holes, but there could be some errors. Most notably, several polls in the 1800s and 2000s were missing their titles because of ads or something, and I had to add them in by hand. If you see anything, let me know and I'll fix it.

For what it's worth, the four "Have you played?" polls' vote totals go in this order:

1. Zelda
2. Mario
3. Final Fantasy
4. Metal Gear

There is only a 4000 vote difference between Zelda and FF, for what it's worth, but Metal Gear is about 10,000 behind.
