Although what personally intrigues me is that there are 40,000 voters who say they either never played Chrono Trigger or never beat it, which once again raises the question: Where in the world does Crono get all of that strength from?

I forgot about that poll. Over 70% of the voters have played Metal Gear Solid? That's pretty high. No wonder Sora bombed against Snake. Most of the voters undoubtedly got the joke in the match pic. <_<

Well there is the fact that he looks like Goku....>_> <_< just kidding, the only time that applies to anything is in those anime cutscenes. But seriously, Chrono Trigger is just an epic game, not to mention Crono, Mario, and Link have a lot in common. All three are silent protagonist(don't you dare tell me otherwise. If "Mamamia!" and "YEAAAAAGH!!11" count, then so should whatever decision Crono makes when asked to make a decision on something <_<)

Interesting to note that "I've never played any of its games" is only doing slightly worse than the "I've never played MGS" option, which would be saying that the vast majority of those who have played ANY Metal Gear game have played MGS. Impressive, to say the least.

Try again. That was a poll asking about owning a copy of Chrono Trigger. That 27% wasn't people who hadn't beaten it. It was people who don't own the game, which means they are probably the people emulating it. That's about a 70% play rate. That seems pretty normal to me for a game of its strength, especially seeing how much of a heavy favorite it is.

Yo, don't you mean 9 years ago? By this time 8 years ago MGS was nearing it's US release date and a lot of people were plenty excited for it. 43% Playership isn't bad for a game that old that wasn't made by Nintendo themselves, though I think it'd have done better if the poll was taken in '89.

I thought you disliked the Metal Gear games, HM.

I watched that 15 minute MGS4 trailer, then I decided it was about time I gave that series a second shot. I went from MGS3 : Subsistence, then to MGS : The Twin Snakes (couldn't find my original PSX copy), and now am closing out MGS2 : Substance.

And, well, ... love.

27% never playing a MG game is really surprising to me when you compare it with his performance against Mario and only 2% never playing a Mario game. Sure Snakes character is infinitely better than Mario's, but still that's a lot of ground to cover up. Though giving it a second thought Final Fantasy 7 and the LoZ series have a much lower play rate than Mario too, and those characters would wipe the floor with Mario, so I guess I should have expected something like this. It's just interesting to see as I never saw that old MG poll until now.

Oh, and lets take something in account for a moment on FE/SH....anybody have a poll that has Strategy RPG and Horror in it, so we can see what genre people on GameFAQs prefer? Obviously if it were regular RPGs it'd crush Survival/Horror, but since this is an SRPG, maybe its a little different?

Silent Hill may have a more widespread namesake, but there is still little indication that people at GameFAQs actually care about the games. I never recall it doing anything noteworthy in a contest or in any polls -- it did have its time to shine on the Top FAQs when the movie released, though. If we were to assume that GameFAQs, for the most part, does not care about either series, I'm willing to place my faith in them backing the Nintendo franchise over the Survival Horror franchise. Fire Emblem isn't that unknown to the voters of GameFAQs at this point, I don't think. It has received a few more games in the States, it has the benefit of two FE characters in SSBM, and, of course, it is a Nintendo franchise. I think all of that is enough for me to take Fire Emblem over Silent Hill rather comfortably.

On another note, does anyone have TRE's website with the polls? I cleared all my history and lost that link in the process.

HM loves MGS2 now? HE'S SEEN THE LIGHT!

I just finished it up about an hour or so ago. You'd be surprised just how much I liked it, too!!

People don't need to really care for it in order to get votes against the likes of Fire Emblem. Silent Hill will definitely be getting its votes in this matchup. It's not like the entirety of GameFAQs will side with Fire Emblem. A good deal of the Playstation and Xbox fanbase who actually decide to vote in that match would probably side with Silent Hill. The question is how many will even bother to vote in this match?

Whoops! I've become so used to the first post being filled with completely useless links that I forgot we fixed that. >>

Thanks though.

People don't need to really care for it in order to get votes against the likes of Fire Emblem. Silent Hill will definitely be getting its votes in this matchup. It's not like the entirety of GameFAQs will side with Fire Emblem.

I was not trying to imply that Silent Hill would not be getting votes at all. It certainly will be getting some, if only for its namesake alone. I just think that nothing has ever indicated that GameFAQs cares the slightest about Silent Hill or any other Survival Horror series that much outside of Resident Evil, and even then ...

Anyway, here's that Survival Horror poll from back in 2003. Silent Hill falls behind "Resident Evil" and "None of Them."

If anything, that polls shows that Silent Hill can get plenty of votes in the right circumstances. It probably would have murdered that poll (unsurprisingly) in the absence of Resident Evil. That "None of them" option is for people who aren't fans of the genre at all, including Resident Evil. It has little to do with Silent Hill itself.

I have Fire Emblem in my bracket for the record, but I wouldn't be surprised if Silent Hill wins the match.

That does not mean that people who voted Resident Evil would have voted Silent Hill if it were not there. I, for one, would vote RE in that poll, but if it were absent my vote definitely goes to "None of Them." I wouldn't doubt that holding true for many people.

And I would easily vote Silent Hill in the absence of Resident Evil. Sure, there would be some that go for the last option, but you can't deny that Silent Hill would do significantly better in the absence of Resident Evil. It got a good 10,000+ votes as it is. And it's not like this site has a hardcore Silent Hill fanbase. Those 10,000 votes are probably filled with casual fans of the series.

Of course, Silent Hill collapses against names like Metal Gear, Castlevania, Halo, Final Fantasy, and the rest of the bigger names it shares those polls with. We already know that Silent Hill doesn't really have a core fanbase presence on this site. But we're talking about how it will fare one-on-one against Fire Emblem. You can't really draw that out of those polls.

For what it's worth, FE:PoR's performance against RE4 in the GotY poll seems just as impressive as any performance done by a SH game. Hell, I'm goin' to get risky, but look at that PS2 GotY poll and compare SH2's showing to FE's showing:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=525

In a poll that features much much mmuucchh worse SFF than the PS2 GotY poll, in a poll with stronger options (tell me the LoZ series, Mario series, OR Metroid series would lose to FFX), in a poll that was held before the Gamecube was released OR an American FE release...FE still did comparable to SH2 in percentage. Again, if SH2 is its biggest game, it's in trouble.

I already mentioned that's a risky comparison, but that's still something to say about FE/SH too that I'll stick with.
