I had FFX > WW and I still insist that's the way it would have been had Ceej not randomly changed the poll placement without warning.

I'm surprised no one sued him because of that. You can't just have people enter a contest for monetary gain and change the circumstances right in the middle of it.

I think I got the whole top half of that divison wrong... I know I had Halo going where Starcraft went... I know I had SC>KH... Actually, I'm positive I got Wind Waker>MP right... I had FFX>SSBM... Probably had FFTA>FE and GTA>KOTOR.

Well, I guess I don't mean sue. I wasn't sure what word to use. I'm just surprised no one ever tried claiming they would have won had that not happened.

Had WW > Halo, SSBM > WW. I definitely felt that those being indifferent to WW would hurt it against SSBM.

I actually think I picked SC over Kingdom Hearts. I don't recall ever debating about KH vs. Halo... I felt that nobody really liked KH as an individual game back then. They just liked the fanservice it did to FF fans. Of course, KH's popularity is a different story now...

I had Final Fantasy X over The Wind Waker for that division as well. Originally, I had StarCraft making it all the way to The Wind Waker and losing, but went back to change it so that Halo won that first matchup. One of the dumbest things I've done.

I have no idea what I had!

Anyway, I've switched from Sonic > SSB to SSB > Sonic, but I'm not that confident in SSB. Still I feel better than I did when I had Sonic winning.

I know I brought this up already, but Sonic's entire series versus SSBM (essentially what the match is) worries me a lot. SSB is not a lock to win at all, even though I'm sticking with it.

If we got a solid release date on Twilight Princess (essentially getting a Wii release date), and it happened to release during the contest, I wouldn't even want a character battle. Give me another Games Contest or something.

That's at least another two years before we even think about seeing that released. Though I would rather him make another ToC or something. There'd be little sense in watching them compare numbers when all that would matter is that Link had Twilight Princess at the end of the contest to give him a win.

Amen brother!

Well all that's been said is November for Wii... right? The actual contest will take 63 days to get done, this contest will be over by August 1st, I don't see any possible way that we could crank out nominations, prediction, and a contest before it comes out, hell it may even be released on GC before the Wii launches. And if by some wacky chance in hell it's not out, it won't be any more than a week or so away, at which time I expect crazy marketing of it, and despite me not buying into hype factor, when it's that close and such a huge game, I do think it'll boost Link.

"Fourth quarter of 2006" is as specific as Nintendo have been. There are actually some speculations that Wii will beat Sony's console out of the gate with an October launch.

Yeah, it would make our x-stats completely off if TP got released mid-contest. That would suck big hairy balls.

I thought a remake for the PS3 was a sure thing.

Last I heard they only had a tech-demo. I could be wrong though.

That's even worse. This contest is going to suck. Mid contest boosts, shoddy x-stats and not even a chance of an upset for champ. Sure there could still be good matches, but the timing of it is going to suck. Thank god for the series contest! *sigh*

Anywhere from October to early November is what has been thrown around. We're supposed to find out the actual date in a couple of months.

I don't mind these little spin-off contests having a clear and present winner, but when the character battles get that way it really sucks. Unlike the spin-off contests, we have a lot of data on characters on how they have performed in the past to help us out in making a bracket and looking at upsets and such. Sure, there are still good matches to be had (assuming CJayC makes a worthwhile bracket to make those good matches), but with Cloud and Link back into the contest you really lose a lot of those good matches that were made in the 2005 bracket. Even worse, the whole "let's see who performs better" is basically pointless knowing Twilight Princess would come out.

So yeah, I just hate that entire idea of the winner becoming absolute in the Character Battle. Even if the winner ended up not having much trouble, we could at least make arguments and see how it ended up. That's why I was hoping we'd get a Character Battle sooner so that we have a good final, then skip it next year in favor of the Games Contest, and then bring it back after a year hiatus and really give us an unpredictable bracket.

Anyway, I want a damn games contest sometime soon. Scrap that divisions by era, give us the standard nomination system, and that contest becomes the best contest ever. <3

Well, the Square Boost would be in full force for the entire contest. It'd probably be even stronger than we're thinking due to Final Fantasy XII releasing mid-contest, but Cloud's chances are zero against Link with Twilight Princess, which is what sucks. <<

A second Games Contest would be the sweetest deal for next spring/summer. We'd get Twilight Princess, FFXII, and whichever Wii and PS3 early titles manage to stand out. Toss the era brackets, and yes, we'd have the best contest however.

Doubt it. Ocarina of Time seems to have a smaller "FFVII effect" attached to it, in that it turned many people into fans of the series. Even though Twilight Princess is being released on a console that definitely has far-reaching potential to bring in new fans, the game itself just looks too similar to OoT. Of course, if it really turns out to be the best Zelda ever...
