Question about the contest analyses, guys: I think last year had
everybody introducing themselves before the matches took place. I'm not
done with the analyses yet by any means, but I was just checking to see

Pokemon versus anything is odd. Pokemon is the one case where
anti-votes actually matter, but we've only seen Pikachu in a contest.
It's easy to blame anti-votes for Xenogears whipping GSC's ass, but
that top 100 list makes you think twice about assuming either game to
be weak. It's not like we have an accurate reading on them. I was seriously considering picking Star Ocean to win the match, because this has Ness v Jak/CJ written all over it. Everyone has an odd feeling that Star Ocean can win, but few actually fear it will. Yet is Star Ocean wins, few will actually be surprised. Pokemon is likely the safer pick given that it has more of an upside, but one wonders if Star Ocean + hate votes can cover the gap. ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. Ever." Cool, thanks for the link Ulti. I also have concerns for Pokemon in that match, but my biggest concern lies with how broad the fanbase for Pokemon is. I honestly don't think that Pokemon's strength will be that much higher than any of its popular games/series (e.g. R/B/Y). The concepts to each game are similar enough that a fan of one game will probably like that majority of them. However, there is no way for those games to win over people who didn't like Pokemon in the first place. I do think that anti-votes will play a part in that match, but no too large a role. I think that many of the people who would've deliberately anit-voted Pokemon will change to simply not caring about the series, not that this is any better. A lot of the Pokemon hate has died down I think, but I guess I will have to wait until its match to see. I still have Pokemon in my bracket though. I haven't been able to buy into SO having any kind of significant strength in this contest. The games have sold well yes, but in a match against Pokemon that point becomes moot except to try and prove that SO isn't "cult." I just think that Pokemon has a much higher name recognition, and is fairly popular on GameFAQs. I guess I am still not sure on who will win, but I will stick with Pokemon for now. My biggest question now is MG vs. KH, I don't know why but I am having doubts about the popular choice on this one. --- If you build a man a fire, he will be warm for a day. predicted results and x-stats! I tried to be conservative on my picks
so something doesn't look extremely out of place... it still will
though due to all the SFF, particularly SMB/SSB and Zelda/Metroid. I disagree with Mega Man X being THAT far below Mega Man (unless you're
saying Zelda will SFF it...?), but if Metal Gear does THAT well on

yeah, I would think it would. the core strength of the X series is on
the SNES, right? I've never played the X series so I kind of guessed. if I'm wrong, I'd bump it up a few points obviously. --- xyzzy |

Well, only the first three games were on SNES, and MMX4 is generally
regarded as the best in the series (though the most popular in a

hmmm... well, given what happened in Link/Mega Man, I'd expect some SFF. I don't think MMX could clear 40% on Zelda assuming no SFF. (nor could anything not called Final Fantasy, for that matter) --- xyzzy |

FACT or Fiction: Zelda will beat Metroid worse than LTTP beat Super Metroid. I think the scores might be close to each other, but yeah, Fact. It'll probably end up being an SFF beating of Link/Ganon proportions <_< Fact or FICTION: Final Fantasy would beat Metal Gear worse than FF7 beat MGS. MGS3 and MGS2 would just about do it. Like the one above, though, the scores would probably be pretty close to each other. FACT or Fiction: Kingdom Hearts would beat Halo in a game contest. The name recognition from KHII would carry it through in a close one. Fact or FICTION: if Star Ocean loses its first round match, it will place last in the stats thanks to double SFF. (Pokemon-Metroid, Metroid-Zelda) Madden and Shadow Hearts will finish bottom of the stats, but yeah, SO might finish low because of this. Fact or FICTION: Mario Kart would beat Metroid. Close one, but no. FACT or Fiction: we will have our first perfect bracket in this contest. Fact. I can't see Warcraft pulling the "Diablo-esque" run which would be necessary to kill perfect brackets. Due to the amount of people predicting, they would have to be somebody predicting the right combination of close matches. In terms of sheer probability, it has to happen. --- Sign my petition! It might be tempting to pick a console over a PC game not named Starcraft, but when the latter did the best out of all the victims of Starcraft, it's hard to beat that. That took me a while to figure out what you meant. I take Kirby easy too, but for some reason I see people giving Pokemon
more of a shot against Metroid than Kirby does, which just strikes me
as odd. The question being inconsequential, naturally. Actually, if I was going to have any real 'upsets' per se in this bracket, Kirby > Metroid would be at the top of my list. So obviously I won't be having any. --- *is Karma Hunter* |

I wouldn't think of taking Kirby > Metroid. Kirby isn't as popular as Samus on here, and Kirby games
definitely aren't as popular as Metroid games. I think people are

I'm obviously not going to take it, but given Samus' history with SFF
(not being able to get any on Issac, lackluster showing against Ganon,
obliteration by Mario, lackluster performances with her games) I'm
tempted to put virtually ANY Nintendo series over Metroid. And moreover
Samus just seems to be better liked than her games...the thing is

I could see Metroid having trouble against Nintendo series that are
more popular than it (LoZ, SMB, SSB, SMK), but I definitely don't see
any other Nintendo series being a threat to it. The Metroid games were
pretty strong outside of their SFF losses, and those were to Nintendo
powerhouse games. I definitely don't see what's lackluster about a
60-40 match against Ganondorf and a tripling of Isaac, unless you were
expecting super-SFF matchups for Samus... It's already clear that
Metroid doesn't have SFF power, but it definitely has shown it will

Kirby, with little doubt. The series regroup both games and characters,
and while it's hard to pinpoint a single popular Kirby game, Kirby
