I honestly think a large issue of how people view "Mega Man" depends upon the info Ceej provides in the match pics. "Mega Man" is the name every single sub-series spinoff starts with: X, Zero, Legends, Battle Network, etc. Compare this with, say, "Super Mario Bros.," which is clear with regards to what it represents; if it were labeled "Mario," we might have a similar problem, as people would presumably assume that it would include spinoffs like Kart, Party, etc.

I've said before that MMZ fans will most likely support Mega Man X as Zero will probably be somewhere in those pics. Mega Man Legends really isn't that popular from a GameFAQs perspective compared to Mario Kart. As far as the Battle Network Series, Mario Kart Super Circuit and Mario Kart DS are much more popular than them as far as handhelds are concerned. And Mario Kart as a series is definitely as popular as Classic Mega Man already.

...Well, I'm not one of those people who feels MMX > MK > MM, so that obviously doesn't apply to what I was saying...heh heh....Right...

If Mario Kart manages to beat Mega Man, I think it would have an easier time with Mega Man X.

Hrm... I definitely see your point, but I think the potential lack of clear labeling may Mega Man more support. I still think fans of the X series people are going to look at just "Mega Man" and vote for it - if at all - under the assumption that it includes all of Mega Man's series, despite the fact that MMX already had a match. Bear in mind I still don't think it will be enough to beat Mario Kart, honestly; I'm just thinking ahead to how some matches may very well likely be decided by the picture and information presented.

I agree that it would take out classic, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would perform better against Kart. Unlike the debate we currently have going with original Mega Man, there will be absolutely no confusion in this case. It's Mega Man X and only Mega Man X. It's ONE of Mega Man's series (the strongest one, yes, but still only one) vs. Mario Kart.

I could easily see MMX being the Samus to MM's Mario: stronger indirectly, but trumped in a direct battle.

Yeah, that's exactly the way I see it. People will adjust their voting for Mega Man based on Mega Man X games, no doubt in my mind. But would the reverse happen? Not as likely (though still possible, I'd think). But because Mega Man X is seemingly the more popular series, it'd probably take the SFF.

....I think there's more possibility of overlap in Mega Man/Mario Kart since Classic was almost entirely Nintendo, while Mega Man X has had several Playstation titles. So theoretically, it could outperform Classic in a direct match.

...What?

..but Mario Kart doesn't even exist on the NES, and that's where Mega Man's main games are. besides, why is Mega Man so "SFF-able"? he did kinda destroy Yoshi, after all. it's only Mario and Link that would have the power to hit Mega Man like that. Mario Kart isn't either of those; not even close.

Yoshi didn't come around until the NES... yet Mega Man as a character was able to SFF him. That means that there is a shared fanbase as Mario Kart wasn't that far after the presence of Yoshi. The NES fanbase went on to become the SNES fanbase, and Mario Kart went on to establish its presence among them. It's not guaranteed that shared fanbase prefers Mega Man as a gaming series to Mario Kart...

yeah, but we're talking a different generation here. sure there's some overlap, but next you'll tell me that Mario would SFF Leon because he's on a Nintendo system despite their games being completely different. I don't know how you'd determine that one would SFF the other at all.

I'm actually feeling a bit more confident in Mario Kart.. except...

1) Since Mega Man SFF'd Yoshi, there is a chance the original Mega Man series could SFF Mario Kart, though, if it's vice-versa, good for me.

2) Mega Man may actually get his power from his original series.

3) Some, not all, but some may actually mistake Mega Man for everything Mega Man period.

And given how the Mario Kart has sold just about as much as the main Mario series since its creation, it pretty much is an indication that Mario and Mario Kart fanbases overlap. And if Mario and Mega Man have an overlap, why wouldn't Mega Man and Mario Kart? Not saying that there will be SFF... but it's not like the Mega Man fanbase can't prefer Mario Kart to the classic Mega Man series. After all, nowadays a gamer is more likely to have played a Mario Kart game than a Mega Man game...

I'm not talking characters at all, and Resident Evil is almost entirely Playstation anyway, other than RE4 and a few other minor titles.

Besides, we're talking an entire series against an entire series. There's bound to be some overlap anyway because what are the odds that somebody has played Mario Kart and not a single Mega Man game (or vice-versa)? The GameFAQs demographic isn't as young as we like to think sometimes.

I don't see this rather crazy idea of Mario Kart SFFing Mega Man. I don't see how that makes any sense at all. The bulk of the classic series appeared on a system before Mario Kart even existed; they're not even on the same platform.

but it's not like the Mega Man fanbase can't prefer Mario Kart to the classic Mega Man series.

I always figured that while people like Mario Kart, it was never something that was a huge favorite with people. There are a lot of people who like it, but the exact same applies to Mega Man, and Mega Man tends to get plenty of people who would hold those games as their favorite. I wouldn't say Mario Kart has that same type of thing going for it. If we're going to talk SFF at all in this match, it isn't going to be favoring Mario Kart. I don't even think there is going to be any SFF. I think it's getting a bit crazy that we're tossing it around for what seems like every match where even the slightest overlap might happen.

Pokemon will pull a crazy rSFF on Metroid and...

Pokemon won't even get out of round 1!!

The bulk of the classic series appeared on a system before Mario Kart even existed; they're not even on the same platform.

And it's not like people stopped playing games after the NES. Most likely they went on to play the NES where Super Mario Kart went on to sell more games than all the Mega Man games combined. Even if the Mega Man fanbase sticks devoutly to it, it's not like Super Mario Kart doesn't have a fanbase of its own...

Mario Kart Super Circuit sold around 5 million on the GBA, and Mario Kart DS is one of the most popular games on the DS.

I've seen you bring this up a couple of times, but is there any reason to really bother with including worldwide sales? The sales that are most important are those from America, and Europe to a much lesser extent. Super Circuit is 2.4 million in America, which is really the number that should be brought up over the worldwide figure. You might be just trying to prove that the series is popular, though I don't know why anyone would dispute that. Still, everything outside of America really doesn't matter. That's where the vast majority of the votes come from.

All that said, Mario Kart 64 was the one to break 5 million in America alone. <<

It is incredibly simple. Honestly, does Kirby have a big title to his name? I don't even think SuperStar did that well.

Which leads me to the question...Why IS Kirby so strong in these contests anyway? Don't get me wrong, he's one of my favorites. He just seems like an unlikely high-mid tier.

Here are the US Mario Kart sales I have. Maybe you can check them against your numbers for accuracy, HM:

Mario Kart 64: 4.8 million
Mario Kart: DD!!: 2.2 million (3+ million counting bundled sales)
Mario Kart: Super Circuit: 2.1 million
Mario Kart DS: 900,000+ (1.1 million counting bundled sales)
Super Mario Kart: Not sure, but I know it's over a million

True. But when you start to bring in the American sales of the Mega Man EXE games among others, the ratio gets even worse... 2.4 million in America and 1.7 in Europe are still nice numbers for a GBA game.

No one stepped up to refute this? Okay, Shake, so why doesn't this work for Final Fantasy? Why is it that FF1 is so far below all the others instead of being voted for like it was FF7. I mean, hell, there's only the tiny little difference of a single number, just like the letter X and MM, so why don't people vote for it like it's FF7?
