I'm wondering... if Star Ocean is so popular here, how
come we haven't seen any rep for it yet? Suikoden has gotten something
in a few times, Skies of Arcadia and Xenogears/saga as well. All
without structured rally efforts. Point here? Either Star Ocean is being overblown, or Fayt just isn't liked very much. (I could see that... he's kinda bland) I'll humor Star Ocean > Pokemon, but Fayt > KOS-MOS? I have no idea why people keep resorting to this, "Well, if it's
popular enough to beat Pokemon, then why haven't we ever seen it in a
contest?" Honestly, that is a weak argument (if you can even consider

I don't think Star Ocean has much of a hardcore fanbase. It's not cult,
but few people would have any of the games on theur top 10 list. Take a
look at the reviews SO3 got on GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/review/536705.html There are quite a few of them and there are a lot of 9/10s but very few 10/10s. --- "Those whose memories fade seek to carve them in their hearts..." Most of Star Ocean's popularity comes from SO3, or so I'm willing to
bet. And fayt just sucks as a character. This is one of many cases
where I expect the game/series to be muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch stronger

Personally, I think much of the reason Sonic had an increase in
strength last year was due to the success his ports to the GameCube

This board will always believe in Blizzard because StarCraft burned
them back in 2004, and they believe the vote rallying makes a
significant difference. StarCraft was plenty strong without it.

It's just that EVERYBODY plays World of Warcraft. In my town, I know
more people who play WoW than some of the big series in this contest.
People who I never thought of as gamers played WoW. I can't see it

yeah, WOW gets brutally antivoted here. the only argument I can see for
Warcraft is that the rallying will be ten times bigger than Starcraft's
was, or that WC3 gets way more love than I know. GTA/WOW is one of those matches that I'm going to get sick of hearing about and can't wait to get it over with. Pokemon/SO is already there. :) --- xyzzy |

Because I'm looking at it as every sonic game ever vs. SSBM. See, this is why we have difference of opinion here. I basically think these matches are going to boil down to "favorite from series A" vs "favorite from series B". Favorites seem to be what stay in your mind the best. Not to say that it isn't an advantage to have more games, because one guy might like Sonic 2 more than Melee, and another guy might like Sonic Adventure more than Melee, and both guys would vote for Sonic. But if it were Melee vs either game Melee wouldn't get the vote. Part of the reason I think Devil May Cry has a chance. Sonic 2 is probably the overall favorite of the Sonic series, (or Sonic 3 & Knuckles... whatever) and its showings have been... underwhelming for the most part. Devil May Cry hasn't been in a game contest yet, but if a recent series like that can put Dante up to a well... at least somewhat close level to an icon with 4324 games like Sonic, I have reason to believe that Devil May Cry fans might be more loyal to the series. Plus Devil May Cry was only 2 spots lower than Sonic's rep in the list thing. Um... yeah. I started with Melee vs Sonic and sorta changed tracks there... I'm sorry. Well, I think a lot of people believe the match will be close, but they're a little wary of taking a side series to beat the main series of a Noble Niner. I don't think DMC > Sonic is an absolutely crazy pick by any means,
and I can see why you're doing it, I personally don't see it happening,
but I wouldn't be completely shocked if when I looked at the poll DMC

there are a number of places where people could slip up. MK/MM is more
debatable than GTA/WOW, that's for sure. KH/Halo (or 'vania) will also
be interesting as well. and I'm having difficulties figuring out which

I really don't see where the debate is in Fire Emblem/Silent Hill. I guess it's because both series are expected to be weak. And I know that characters =/= games and all that, but the only time we ever got to see anything from Silent Hill in action was in the Villains Contest. Pyramid Head was 4th from the bottom, barely above Luca Blight (and we KNOW Suikoden is bad fodder). --- Some stories can't be told by words. Some legends are meant to die. I'm surprised THE HALO only has 6 taking it over Kingdom Hearts and
Castlevania. Seems like the favorite to me considering Halo almost beat
Starcraft who beat Kingdom Hearts + Halo hate has decreased + Halo 2

Halo, much like Grand Theft Auto, will always be underestimated by
Board 8 because of the hate. It has a realistic chance of winning that

Being a side series doesn't matter when it comes to games, if it is a popular
side series. Like I said before, SSB is a side series and look how
popular it is on this site. The whole side series thing is becoming

I agree with Lopen. FE characters (those not in SSBM) aren't going to
do much better. I'd struggle choosing between SH and Suikoden as well. I'll probably go with FE since it's Nintendo.. but I get the feeling that people voting are going to go "uhh, what?" --- xyzzy |

KH/Halo was one of those matches that made me stop and think. In the
end, I went with KH2 not only because it's more recent, but because I
think it's brought in more fans to the KH series than Halo 2 did to the

Being a side series doesn't matter when it comes to games, if it is a popular side series. I know that, but it doesn't stop people from thinking that way. Plus, the fact that it's against Mega Man Classic has people questioning it. And yeah, a Fire Emblem villain probably wouldn't do much better than Pyramid Head, but it's not a particularly high mark. Halo 2 definitely would not cancel out Kingdom Hearts 2 on
this site. Especially with KH2 being released not more than a few
months ago, vs. Halo 2 being out for almost 2 years. It's not like
