I love Star Ocean, but there's no way it'll break 37% on Pokemon. It's

God, I wish every match in the contest was like FE/SH. It may be
fodder/fodder, but it's getting the most discussion of any of the

I feel like making up expected results and then computing x-stats, just
to see how completely ridiculous this contest is going to look after
Zelda/Metroid, SMB/SSB (or Sonic, if you saw what happened in the Game

I can't believe it's not starting until July. I really wish he had just gone ahead and made it 64 series. I like the bracket though. would they fare against, say, Fire Emblem? Suikoden? Phantasy Star? I think Star Ocean and Pokemon would probably beat all three. At the very least, they beat Suikoden and Phantasy Star. I suppose Fire Emblem would depend on how much the awareness has increased for the American auidence. Suikoden definitely fits the role of a "cult" RPG. I can't imagine Silent Hill beating any of the games mentioned either. I love Star Ocean, but there's no way it'll break 37% on Pokemon. It's too cult (and yes I know SO2 and SO3 sold 1 million copies each). I really don't see how that makes any sense at all, but I'm honestly taking a break from arguing this one for a while. >> Personally, I can't see Castlevania being that strong. I have to say that I agree more with what you're saying than anyone else. I mean, I love Castlevania and all, but I never really viewed it as a significant player in a contest format. Even combining the series into one, I have a hard time seeing it being overly strong. I've always figured Halo would win without a lot of trouble, but perhaps I'm underestimating what Castlevania can do. You Board 8ers sure are getting me worried about GTA/Warcraft damnit I'm really starting to hate Blizzard entries into the contests for this very reason. Well, not that I get worried about the matches with them, but I'm really sick of hearing "BATTLE NET AND RALLYING" for any of their franchises. The downplaying of GTA's popularity on this site in that other topic was downright sick. Heck, we just had a poll that showed some 80%+ that don't play World of Warcraft anymore or never have at all. StarCraft saw success, and it's entirely possible that SSBM was its only "cheated" win, and now every Blizzard franchise apparently has the ability to go nuts, which I don't buy at all. Personally, I only think rallying and such work when the series are at least somewhat close to each other to begin with, and GTA is far stronger than Warcraft I would think. --- "Princess, there's no need for worry. I also consider the people trying to say Mario is going to beat Final Fantasy, as that just doesn't make any sense either. It doesn't make sense considering past results, but this is an entirely different contest. We saw in enough cases games don't equal characters, series equalling neither of them could be true as well. Now, I don't believe this will happen, but it is possible that perhaps some series get weaker when lumped together, ie FF7 is more distinguishable than just a simple Final Fantasy. but MGS also has Subsistence, plus hype from MGS4, Portable Ops and (to a certain extent) SSBB. here's my opinion on GTA/Warcraft: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1877 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1134 vs. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2232 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2233 if you think rallying can make up that much, go for it. I sure wouldn't want to be on the hook for that much of a difference though. heck, let's throw in The List while we're at it: #11: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - PS2 #27: Grand Theft Auto III - PS2 #35: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - PS2 vs. #39: World of Warcraft - PC #60: Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos - PC WOW would seem to benefit more from a system like this as well - if you're paying $15/month, chances are you really like the game. GTA is a "casual" game yet all three games ranked higher than WOW. add in that the PSP port is coming out this week and I can't see it being close unless some monster rallying occurs. --- xyzzy |

People are debating Pokemon/Star Ocean and Fire Emblem/Silent Hill? I
can sort of see a reason why Star Ocean has a chance, but Silent Hill?

GTA/Warcraft is being overhyped severely due to "ZOMG TEH BLIZZARD VOTE RALLIES!!11!1@12!" I haven't seen anything that would remotely suggest that GTA would lose this match. GTA's a powerhouse with the casuals, and rallying can only do so much. I really would've liked to see it as the 3 seed in Metal Gear's division instead of wasted by SMB in Round 2. --- Moltar Status: Eagerly awaiting for the next Contest to begin. |

Vercetti and CJ are much weaker than the GTA franchise as a whole
though. Vice City and San Andreas might be big, but the franchise also

Vice City got within 5000 votes of SSBM, so I don't think it's fodder
or anything. However what I wish to express is GTA doesn't have the
fanatically insane fanbase of Warcraft. Heck, I could go furthur and
say that WoW alone could push Warcraft over the edge seeing how big and

However what I wish to express is GTA doesn't have the fanatically insane fanbase of Warcraft. GTA doesn't need fanatics. It's got numbers and plenty of casuals who will vote it over most things. I'm not calling for a blowout by any means... it's just pissing me off when I see people saying "lol pokemon with 60 min."
