I wish Suikoden and Silent Hill would switch spots. I think Halo/Castlevania is the best first round match-up. I think Kingdom Hearts has a very outside shot at the finals. I think SSB will hammer Sonic, and then lose fairly convincingly to SMB. With the release of the update, I think it will be enough. I wish I had more free time to live here like I use to, but will be dropping in more frequently now that there is something to discuss. I think the match pictures could be absolutely amazing. Actually, I just came across one of those you (cyko) asked for. It's
only the first Shadow Hearts, which should pretty much give you an idea
of the others sales, along with a few other obscure RPGs that maybe you

No Chrono series is definately disapointing especially considering
Madden, Star Ocean and Suikoden got in. I would've picked Chrono to get

Atelier Iris 2 is pretty new, so it probably wouldn't have decent numbers yet. Anyway, in the Oracle everyone is predicting FF > Diablo with scores only in the 60s... maybe I'm just vastly overestimating Final Fantasy here, but shouldn't we be thinking of it as... The first update of the BOP is up, with 28 brackets. First thing that stands out is how Megaman is absolutely slaughtering Mario Kart. For me, this is the single hardest match in the entire bracket, yet it's 26-2 in MM's favor! We also have quite a few outrageous picks, such as Kirby beating Metroid, POKÉMON beating Metroid, and SSB over SMB. I would love to be in the heads of those who picked that last one just to see where it doesn't connect. --- i beaten a lot of people in school in a battle. some are noobs like you some are pretty good. i have a perfect record of not loosing. -pika4 |

I still need to get around to submitting my bracket to the BOP. Interesting... do you have numbers for the other NIS games? La Pucelle Tactics, Atelier Iris... Atelier Iris 2 is pretty new, so it probably wouldn't have decent numbers yet. I don't have any La Pucelle Tactics sales on me right now, but I do have Atelier Iris, which sold 50,971. To be honest, I'm surprised and a little sad Makai Kingdom sold so
poorly. I'm really hoping Disgaea 2 does well. If it's linked to the
older games like Disgaea 1 was, then it will encourage people to go get
them (like it did for me) Who knows? We might be seeing the main character of Disgaea 2 in next year's character battle! In that case, I have a hard time seeing Final Fantasy getting any less than 70% I imagine that Final Fantasy will end up with 70%+ in that match as well. No idea why people are expecting Final Fantasy to be held to 60%, that's just crazy. On another note, I find it both humorous and ridiculous that people are entertaining the thought of Super Smash Bros. beating Mario or anything else on that level. It's pretty nuts how many people overrate that series. If you can point out the fault in the logic, go right ahead. But try to
avoid using that ridiculous "lol x-stats" nonsense because the stats have
proven on multiple occasions to be a very good guideline for where
everything sits. Dismissing them completely is as foolish as relying on

I'm not dismissing them completely. However, you seem to think that
because GSC lost to Xenogears, then Pokemon can't beat Star Ocean.
Despite the fact that the X-stats you are trying to use already put
both Pokemon and Xenogears at decent strength, after FFVII SFF'd the

*first post in stats topic in a kajillion years* Pokemon has shown its weakness in every other competition; I see no reason why it would be so much stronger as a series that it could take down significant competition like Metroid. Pokemon has sold more copies, true enough, but Metroid has proven stronger on GameFAQs than its sales numbers give it any right to be. Pokemon can and will take out midrange opposition like Star Ocean, though. Seriously, what the heck does Star Ocean have going for it against Pokemon? I don't even see where the difficult decision is here. And Shadow Hearts, my beloved Shadow Hearts, is dead in the water against Resident Evil. I'm sad :( --- Official Queen ***** of the Universe! |

I have already taken into account SFF, which I do not believe did
anything like "SFFing Xenogears to hell" like you want to claim. Of
course, there's simply no way to say for certain, and while I do
believe there was SFF, I do not believe it was anywhere near that
significant. People suddenly want to raise Xenogears on this pedastal
of popularity that it magically has that puts it so much higher than
Star Ocean despite having sales that are not even comparable. I am well
aware of the popularity that Xenogears does have, but it's ridiculous
for people to think Star Ocean somehow would stance no chance, there's
just nothing there that points to that being the case. I'm not saying "Xenogears beat Pokemon G/S/C so Star Ocean should clearly beat Pokemon." That is just one part of why I think it will win, but it certainly helps that fact. If a Square RPG like Xenogears could beat Pokemon G/S/C is immediately speaks of what power Pokemon has, which is nothing to write home about. Your comment about Star Ocean not being popular makes no sense either. I looked for those sales in an attempt to disprove that misconception. I don't know how something like that sold a million copies could be considered unpopular. I didn't bother bringing up those sales to justify strength; I brought them up to get rid of that ridiculous notion that Star Ocean is not popular. There is nothing to support that claim. I wouldn't expect people to side with Star Ocean, because Pokemon is viewed as the "safe" choice. I'm not entirely sure why it is viewed so safe, but it is. What blows my mind is people writing it off with no chance at all. There is just nothing that has been presented for Pokemon or that Pokemon has done that gives it such a massive advantage like that. You bring up the one match it was in and you're pointing to a more cult Square RPG winning the match with absolute ease -- it happens to be against a Square Enix RPG series here too. If you bring up the character contests, you have a character representing the series that is absolute fodder and would be that way even to this day. The only thing I can come up with is people choosing Pokemon entirely based on name, which never carried any type of real power here to begin with. Question: Is anyone not taking Metal Gear to win its division? I'm considering it (and right now I've got Halo winning for some strange reason), but I know that Metal Gear has everything going for it right now and could easily be a powerhouse. The thing about Star Ocean is, at least as far as I've seen, the people that played it were pretty underwhelmed by it. So just because FFX-2 sold a bajillion copies and has the FF name doesn't mean it would be a fantastic force in a contest, because it isn't well LIKED. I can see MG over-perform against Halo, we've all seen Solid Snake
over-perform against Sora, and MG could reasonably SFF
Castlevania...plus, on top of it all, I don't see any of them getting
