I believe sales of the Xbox 360 and PC combine to something like 1.5 million. I just checked, and it appears that it shipped 1.7 million copies in the first two weeks, and is still selling well, so I think it's well above this now. Sounds like the Lunar series, except maybe the advertising bit. And
I should remember, I was on the losing side of that debate (and I used
pretty much the same reasons that you are). I'm not making the same
mistake twice. What was Lunar up against? I know Ghaleon made the contest in the villain thing, but I forget who he was facing. Anyway, I think Star Ocean has a bit more going for it than Lunar does, if only because it's coming from Square Enix. I went with Pokemon against Xenogears the first time, and that match kind of opens my eyes a bit to this one. I think Star Ocean is more popular than people give credit for, but it helps that it's not going up against some monster of a franchise. On top of that, it's a one point match at the most, so I'm at least going to take the chance on this one. --- "Princess, there's no need for worry. Who do you think I am? I'm the hero of the story. Are there any polls involving Star ocean anywhere on gamefaqs? I'm just
wondering, as it might give at least some sort of a hint to it's
popularity. It could be anywhere from a mid carder to absolute fodder

HM, I think you underestimate Xenogears' popularity... It may not have
the sales numbers due to short supply, but it is indeed very popular
among the Square fanbase. Remember, it came out right on the heels of
FFVII, so a lot of people do know of it's presence, even though it
doesn't have big sales numbers. It was also a commodity on the used
market, so the sales numbers can be deceiving. If anything, Pokemon could be underrated in 2k4. I would think that the Xenogears and FFVII definitely share a fanbase with as close as they were released and with how big a game FFVII is. There is some potential for Pokemon to be underrated... I don't like playing the FAQ game, but since SO3 and TOS are similar
enough I think it's fair in this instance. SO3 might have stayed at the
top for a while, but it dropped out of the Top 50 a lot earlier than

If anything, Pokemon could be underrated in 2k4. I agree with this. Perhaps it was just the G/S/C series...and even though I think SO is more popular than Xenogears, I don't see Pokemon losing this match. --- Moltar Status: Eagerly awaiting for the next Contest to begin. |

Fact or Fiction: Star Ocean has a fighting chance against Pokemon. FICTION I can't see Pokemon losing to an obscure RPG series. Fact or Fiction: Metroid will SFF Kirby AND Pokemon. FICTION In this contest, I think we have to look at genres more than company fanbases to get SFF. Fact or Fiction: The Legend of Zelda will at least TRIPLE Metroid. FICTION Though Zelda will blow the crap out of Metroid, I can't see it being THAT lopsided Fact or Fiction: Zelda at least doubles everything in its division. FICTION I can see it failing to double Metroid, but will come close Fact or Fiction: Fire Emblem/Silent Hill is the lowest-scoring match of the contest. FACT They are both more obscure titles that noone really cares about Fact or Fiction: Halo/Castlevania will be the closest first-round match. FICTION I can see Halo beating Castlevania comfortably. Closest first round match I have to give to Mega Man/Mario Kart Fact or Fiction: Kingdom Hearts vs. Halo/Castlevania will be the closest second-round match. FACT I can see Halo vs KH being pretty damn close Fact or Fiction: Metal Gear will lose before the Final Four. FICTION I can't see Metal Gear failing to beat Kingdom Hearts Fact or Fiction: Super Mario Brothers will break 90% on Madden. FICTION High 80s, but not over 90%. Though I wouldn't be surprised. Fact or Fiction: Warcraft has a realistic chance of beating Grand Theft Auto. FACT I can see Warcraft comfortably beating GTA Fact or Fiction: Sonic/Smash Brothers will be the most split match in the BOP. FICTION SMB/SSB will be Fact or Fiction: Mario Kart has a chance of upsetting Mega Man. FACT This match really is too close to call Fact or Fiction: Street Fighter will fail to get out of the first round...again. FICTION I can't see an established game like Street Fighter beating the until recently, obscure Elder Scrolls Fact or Fiction: In the event of Street Fighter/Resident Evil, there WILL be SFF. The box, commercial, title screen, and opening scene of the game all
quite clearly state it's an elder scrolls game. You'd have to be really
damn dense to miss it... The box, title screen, and most of the single player missions in the game all quite clearly show Kerrigan. You'd have to be really damn dense to miss it... dense to miss it... VERY different. Kerrigan is a character, not te title of the damned series. I can't believe tha this is even being debated. alright, here's my take on the bracket: Hyrule Division 1 - Legend of Zelda 8 - Civilization 4 - Suikoden 5 - Mega Man X 3 - Pokemon 6 - Star Ocean 2 - Metroid 7 - Kirby Suikoden getting a 4 seed!?! AWESOME!!! Suikoden immediately gettting sacrificed to Megaman X?!?! NOT AWESOME!!!! in fact, this is an extremely predictable division. i don't really see how any board regular could miss a match here. bah. Snake Division 1 - Metal Gear 8 - Soul Calibur 4 - Silent Hill 5 - Fire Emblem 3 - Castlevania 6 - Halo 2 - Kingdom Hearts 7 - Harvest Moon this division is a little more interesting. the whole Castlevania/GTA/KH 4-pack could be interesting. although, i really only see Kingdom Hearts as having a shot at taking down Metal Gear. Fire Emblem vs. Silent Hill has to be the total fodder match of this contest. although i don't have 100% faith in Fire Emblem, i think it'll squeak by. oh, and congrats to Board 8 for getting Harvest Moon in, but it will be lucky if it breaks 10% against KH. Mushroom Division 1 - Super Mario Bros. 8 - Madden NFL 4 - Grand Theft Auto 5 - Warcraft 3 - Sonic 6 - Devil May Cry 2 - Super Smash Bros. 7 - Dragon Quest hmph. GTA and Warcraft's spots are a little wasted here. both would get crushed by Mario. SMB vs. SSB will be a good match, though. but, how the heck did Madden make the cut? No Half-Life, StarFox, Advance Wars, Mortal Kombat, Phantasy Star, or Shining Force - but MADDEN squeaks in? WTF....... i really didn't see that one coming. Ultima Division 1 - Final Fantasy 8 - Diablo 4 - Mega Man 5 - Mario Kart 3 - The Elder Scrolls 6 - Street Fighter 2 - Resident Evil 7 - Shadow Hearts again - wasted oppurtunities with Diablo and Resident Evil. although, man Megaman vs. Mario Kart is brutal. i'm also surprised that Elder Scrolls pulled a 3 seed. with it's recent popularity, Elder Scrolls could pull off the upset.... overall, not terrible, but not great. about 2/3rds of the bracket i'm 100% sure of right off the top of my head....... meh. --- "In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women...." - Homer Simpson |

I had no idea Oblivion was Elder Scrolls, or even what the ES series is. All i've ever seen of it on this board is "Oblivion". popular among the Square fanbase. Oh, I know that Xenogears is not some cult RPG that no one cares about. I'm not trying to bring down Xenogears in any of this because I know of its popularity. But I just think Star Ocean 3 would be more popular than it would be. The fact that it beat Pokemon G/S/C without so much trouble should definitely help in show that it isn't just something a few people care about, but it's not like Pokemon is a powerful franchise so you know. But yeah, if Xenogears did win a match against SO3 I really don't think it'd be by much at all. People just really underestimate how popular Star Ocean really is. It's not comparable at all to Suikoden or Skies or Arcadia or whatever other small RPG fanbase you could name. If anything, Pokemon could be underrated in 2k4. No Chrono makes me so sad. Why the **** did it not get in? I mean...Harvest Moon? What is that? A few tough matches in here...Castlevania vs. Halo made me hesitate the longest, but Alucard's recent downward trend settled it for me. SSB vs. Sonic was a little tricky, but Sonic's increasing strength in 2k4/2k5 and SSB's massive disappointment in the Top 100 list convinced me to go with Sonic. Otherwise, it's not much of a challenge. I've said before that Mario Kart would be the fourth strongest series in the contest, and nothing here changes that for me. A few matches made me think for a second, and I wouldn't be surprised at those being upsets, but these two are the only ones I would consider changing...and after double-checking how SotN did against Goldeneye, chances of me changing that one are pretty much zero. On the topic of SMB's path being predictable: giving SMB an unpredictable path would be impossible. Seriously, I think SMB's going to be even more alone than Sephiroth. Also: does anyone think MMX could get SFF'd by Zelda? I would hope not, but the possibility is a little frightening. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

I'm sorta in a hurry...but, I've skimmed over every post I've missed, and here's what I've got to say: --Wasted potential, this bracket. It's get several real good matches, but it's also got several wwaasstteedd series. --SO's being over-rated. I'm not against it doing decent against Pokemon -- we've seen Pikachu and we've seen Pokemon G/S/C -- but SO is no Xenogears or Fox, whereas Pokemon is bigger than Pikachu and Pokemon G/S/C. SO'll impress against those expecting nothing from it and disappoint those expecting a win, if I'm right. That's a big if. --LoZ will hurt Metroid. Bad. More than the tripling, even -- I dare say LoZ pushes for 80%. --FE > SH. FE was behind FFTA/FFX, afterall, and I remember the few times I've seen Silent Hill polls (mainy GotY polls) it's done bad...like, really bad. No, I mean bad-bad. So, I'll go with FE. --I like the Castlevania/Halo/KH four-pack. Right now, I've got KH > Halo, though Castlevania may be changing my mind sometime. For now though, I know C:SotN didn't impress against Perfect Dark and that Halo is one of the strongest games here contest-wise as well as being #9 on the Top 100 List and Halo 2 being a successful write-in. Alucard not impressing last year alongside MC pulling out a great fluke against Crono is also comforting...but man, Castlevania's got so many games, too. We'll see what happens. --*SPOILERS* Madden loses, and I say SMB gets 85+% on it. --Sonic/SSB has potential to be good, but for all my marbles, I'm throwing them in for SSB. --Mega Man/Mario Kart! I used to argue for MK, then I changed my mind to MM, then the bracket was released...I'm going with MM for now. --Whoever posted the Capcom poll rules. SF/RE probably would have been great before RE4, but now, no, don't bother trying to convince me SF will win. Elder Scrolls COULD upset...but, God, I really doubt it. In fact, scratch that -- I think more people know the series by Morrowind and Oblivion than actually by The Elder Scrolls...and even if I'm wrong, I don't see the match being much more than SF2 and afew other SF games versus Oblivion and some of the Morrowind fans here. and all, but I just don't think it was anything huge. I also don't

Then again, I'm not taking Star Ocean with the hopes that anti-votes
will bring in the win. Yeah, but you have to admit that the fanbase overlaps. Parasite Eve came right off of the heels of FFVII and sold 2 million copies. Parasite Eve came with a demo of Xenogears. People then became interested in Xenogears. I'd almost guarantee that a huge chunk of Xenogears fans were already FFVII fans. I know it was that way for me and a hell of a lot of other people. As for the Pokemon hate, I definitely think it has died down. Outright Pokemon hate is dying down. That doesn't mean that anyone who

SSB vs. Sonic was a little tricky, but Sonic's increasing strength
in 2k4/2k5 and SSB's massive disappointment in the Top 100 list

Have you played te game though? If the answer is no, and your entire
experience with the game is people on gamefaqs talking about, I don't
quite see your point. I have not played it, which is my point, as by not playing my opinion is probably similiar to people who go to www.gamefaqs.com and see a poll between the two. When you're reaching for popularity, it sucks when your opponent (Street Fighter) has gobs of name recgonition and you have a title (Elder Scrolls) that if you haven't actually played Oblivion, good luck with that one. Even most board users don't call it EC:O, just Oblivion. And these are the people you hope are voting for "Elder Scrolls. Call it the "WTF Is Elder Scrolls?" factor :P If I had played Oblivion, I might vote for it, but as I have not, I'm definitally voting for the name I recgonize, and SF is in my bracket without a second thought. --- I will avenge those who have died. People just call it oblivion and morrowind since it's easier than
saying the full name, TES4:O or TES3, and that translates over when
people type it out. I mean, come on. Oblivion is currently both second
and fifth on the top ten faq list, and both quite clearly state it's an

I'm nt denying that name recognition, would go to street fighter's
favour though. Of course it does, but name recognition doesn't always
