Hmm... let's try to be realistic here. If CJayC posts the bracket within the next few days and only gives us a small window of prediction time before getting the contest started, it will likely finish up in mid-July (assuming it's a standard 32-entry bracket). Now, since Ceej has a history of taking at least a small breaks between contests, we can expect at least a couple of quiet weeks before any Summer Contest news is seen. Ideally, the month of August will be spent for nominations and predictions. Thus, our current best case scenario is a Summer Contest that begins in September. Of course, I hope I'm wrong since that works out terribly for my schedule. --- Board 8: Where Wii treat each other right. |

Someone tossed around the idea that this could be a 16 entry contest,
which is why this wait is not going to really get off schedule of it
ending in June, but I find that pretty unlikely. I hope this contest starts sooner than September. If we do start that late, we're going to be in the middle of the contest when games like Final Fantasy XII and potentially Twilight Princess release. --- Some stories can't be told by words. I'd be fine with it being late - hell, I'd be fine with the character
battle taking place in the winter. I bet the change in season would
make for a less predictable contest. all the holiday releases hitting
at once could make for some potentially wild fluctuations in popularity. --- xyzzy |

September marks the start of what will easily be my toughest semester yet, and I don't much studying as it is. It's hardly notable in 8x8 divisions, but other than that, I can't

Well Mario and Crono don't talk... I hope they don't go to a 16 entrant contest. Too many good series would be left out, like Fire Emblem, Kirby, Diablo, Pac-Man, etc. Do you realize that with a 16 series contest, only 8 series win even one match? Final Fantasy, Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Halo, Zelda, Samus. Or something like that. That's it. Almost everyone else is fodder. You know how boring that is? They should not move to a 16 character contest. My solution: 2 matches a day, at least in the first round. That will speed us up and get the summer contest here on time. That being said, I would not mind a fall/winter contest though. Heck, I'd love these things year-round, but that's not going to happen. Still, this gives me my bracket fix at a time farther from March Madness, which is good. A contest is a contest, at any time. Depends on what you're expecting out of it. I think people will be a
little wary about it, after it failed to live up to expectations in

Is KH overrated? It depends on people's expectations of it. If the
common consensus is that it can get to the last 8 (of a 32 runner
contest), then yes, I'd say that it's overrated. It wins one match in

It really depends on the draw it gets. Even Scorpion won 3 matches one year (and hasn't won since). Well, let's just ask it this way: What's the strongest series you see KH beating? No one is really calling for it to beat any big franchises, so it's hard to say anything about it being overrated at this point. I think it'll end up doing really well and be one of the stronger series in this contest, but it's hard to make judgment on that without a bracket. --- Some stories can't be told by words. What's the strongest series you see KH beating? And what's the weakest series you see it losing to? I see it losing to the big three, MGS, SSB, Sonic, GTA, Chrono, Metroid. That's nine right there and it'd have to dodge some big bullets to make the quarter finals. I see it beating Halo, Castlevania, Mario Kart and anything else Nintendo barring the three listed earlier, I think I could find a case for it beating Warcraft or Diablo but wouldn't like it, any RPG series not mentioned, Street Fighter and anything below that. I put it on more or less the same level as Mega Man (either the original or MMX), neither of which on their own I see as strong enough to make the quarters. I think it could not beat Halo, Mega Man X, or Mario Kart. I don't
think there are enough die-hard fans. Kingdom Hearts can beat up on
weak opponents, but it looses support greatly when it goes up against
good opponents. I can see it maybe going to the sweet 16, but maybe

I don't believe KH is overrated. Take it as you will as Squaresoft's
version of Smash Bros, only a totally different genre, but still has a

When I post in a topic it dies... We need more discussion. Let's talk about... Mario Kart!!!! Mario Kart is a very hard game to judge. It is popular and widely respected, but it really doesn't have any prior contest experience. All its characters have starred in many other games, so we can't judge the characters either. I guess it's all up to guesswork for this one. If I had to guess, I'd say it's around the power level of... hmmmmmmmm Kingdom Hearts. Or Halo. what do you think? --- Yoshi > most. Toad > All. While I love Mario Kart and believe that it might have boosted some as
a series with the DS addition, if it went head to head with KH it would
most definitely loose. I do see Mario Kart as the second most popular Mario spin off series behind SSB (if you consider it to be a Mario spin off). So things are not exactly looking up for a bracket today, but does

I consider Mario Kart as a SSB Lite. It may not be as much as an
overall favorite as SSB, but it has a pretty large fanbase and deeper
roots. I would think that as a series, it is as popular as Metroid. It
doesn't have a concentrated group of fans like Metroid, but it's a
series that is liked by pretty much everybody. It's definitely more
popular than the Mario RPGs (Super Mario RPG was still decent in the
games contest). I could also see it reaching up and beating something like GTA and Halo, as not only do you have the dedicated Mario Kart/Nintendo fanbase, but the series general popularity probably means that anyone who's not really a big fan of GTA/Halo will vote Mario Kart (think Ocelot/Pac-Man). Those would be upsets, of course. I'm just stating the range I think Mario Kart is capable of. Well, I think Mario Kart would definitely be at its strongest against
the likes of Halo and GTA, so if it were within range, it could
definitely pull off the upset. I'm not saying that Mario Kart will
indirectly be their equal, strengthwise. But that's the absolute best

I think Mario Kart could beat Halo and GTA. Mario Kart was pretty well
liked by a lot of people. Halo and Mario Kart are more specialized
series. Therealmnm is right to say MK would be strongest against those
types of series. The raw fanbase of Halo and GTA might be too much, but
if enough of the swing voters go MK, I think it has a good chance.
