This lack of a bracket is starting to get rather silly. I'm hoping Ceej didn't forget completely. ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. Ever." Contest Currently Playing: Resident Evil 4, KH:COM, Fire Emblem 7, Larussa 92 |

We're almost reaching the point where Ceej may say "**** this,
let's go straight to the character battle". I mean, if the bracket
isn't released soon, the end of the contest season will be ridiculously
late. Surprised Oblivion is holding up so well... then again, those are the night hours we're talking about. --- Also, eat from garbage cans as much as possible, because nobody in America ever throws away anything that can make you fat. -MYC health tip |

I'd perfer if he scrapped it and went straight to the character battle. The poll stopped updating in the morning, and it didn't start again
until the evening. CJayC said that no one even contacted him to warn
him of the situation, and as it turned out, we missed out on a lot of
board hype, since the vote margin went from something like 4000 to 3500
in the time the poll wasn't updating. --- Also, eat from garbage cans as much as possible, because nobody in America ever throws away anything that can make you fat. -MYC health tip |

How is KH2 doing so poorly in the poll? I mean, its sales are far
better than the sales of the rest, it's been out for quite a while, and
the GameFAQs userbase is biased in favor of its genre/developer. I

I still hold that KH2 (and the KH series as a whole) is not
particularly popular at all on its own, at least relative to most of
the other big Square/Nintendo properties. Say what you will, but fact
that KH almost lost to Soul Calibur, a Dreamcast fighting game
is very telling. Voters aren't stupid, and I'm willing to bet that the
majority of them know that Soul Calibur is not Soul Calibur II (which
was a big argument for it, since it was multi-platform and had Link in
the GC version), and voted that way. People will point to SC's decent seeding and placement and the top 100 list to give legitimacy to that high X-Stat ranking, and as a rabid Soul Calibur fan I consider that to be basically rubbish. There is a core group of hardcore fans that love SC, and the fact many regard it as perhaps the best fighting game ever along with the fact that it is a Dreamcast game has inflated its status. This group is a half-step away from the other hardcore cult Dreamcast fans that have succeeded in getting SoA/Vyse and Shenmue/Ryo Hazuki into multiple contests, and their dismal outings are more foreboding than most want to admit. There is a reason why a GREAT deal of the posters here believe that the character with the greatest chance of bombing is Nightmare, especially since the SC series is one that doesn't have any particularly standout characters. And that, I would argue, is not only a hinderance to Nightmare, but to the game itself. This is probably sounding more and more like an anti-SC rant than one focused on Kingdom Hearts, but the point is that I can't believe for a second that either of their X-Stat values are legitimate. Starcraft's run was certainly a miraculous affair, and almost just as dubious. Common sense should prevail here, and it should tell us that something that almost loses to Soul Calibur isn't that strong. So KH2's showing here doesn't surprise me at all--not one bit. And it's probably even more popular than the original KH at this point. That it's barely beating an XBox 360/PC game (regardless of the quality, ouch...), and a DS game that *just* came out (even if it is NSMB), this should not be particularly surprising here. Now, this doesn't mean that KH2 isn't bringing a large influx of Square fans to the site. GTA isn't particularly popular, and it brings TONS of folks to the site. KH2 is still the number one FAQ, and in the days following its release the original KH and KH: CoM weren't (and haven't been) doing too badly either. Regardless of whether or not they would hold KH2 in the highest of regards, it's still bringing many to the site--and I would be willing to wager they hold Cloud in much higher esteem. --- *is Karma Hunter* |

How is KH2 doing so poorly in the poll I'll admit that I was expecting KHII to do better than it is today, but it is not doing "poorly." Oblivion has been right behind Kingdom Hearts II on those FAQs since it came out, Oblivion has sold really well on both the PC and Xbox 360 platforms, and it is a really popular game. This poll shouldn't really be a blowout in favor of KH2. Oblivion is right up the alley of GameFAQs, too. --- “The human body is supposed to be 70 percent water. Miami to Orlando for an interview and back within 9 hours. Not bad.... Regarding the poll, I think it's more of Oblivion surprising people rather than Kingdom Hearts disappointing. It seems like everyone who has played Oblivion consider it Game of the Year material while Kingdom Hearts has tons of fans that like it but not enough to consider it game of the year. I think it's a hardcore Oblivion fanbase showing up in that poll. --- Nominate Carmen Sandiego for SC2k6 Currently playing: KH2, MGS3:S, GTA:SA, MMAC (wow, my PS2 is actually getting play!) |

Well, the whole point of KHII was that it was going to draw new Square fans to the site. I'm not seeing it. The original Kingdom Hearts was hardly overwhelming in terms of the Games Contest, and we saw what kind of impact it had on SC2K3. You can still like the game quite a bit without it being your favorite, and you can definitely like the characters involved. Kingdom Hearts II is a popular game, but it's certainly not Square's darling as of yet. Remember that it barely beat out FFXII in a "Which Square game are you most anticipating?" poll. The Final Fantasy brand still carries the most weight around here, and it WILL help those involved. --- Some stories can't be told by words. Some legends are meant to die. Yet Oblivion looks rather popular on GameFAQs. Hmm ... Come on, it isn't doing nearly as well on the FAQ list as Ragnarok Online, and we all know how that turned out. Also: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2335 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2303 That's more people owning KH2 than an X360. I know Oblivion came out on PC as well, but this is not at all a good sign for KH2. I've seen plenty of people say that the arrival as KH2 has signified the KH series coming into its own, or that KH2 is going to be far more influential than its predecessor. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1134 Getting 16% against competition like that is a lot more impressive than getting 25% against competition like this. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

there. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Roxas, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

weren't there, and it probably wouldn't have 16.5% if that poll if it

No matter how you look at it, KH in 2002 > KH2 in 2006. And considering KH's slow initial sales, that just makes things look worse for KH2. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

*hadn't played any of those games by the end of 2002* Either way, I think a little too much has been made out of this poll. Remember how many people said that they hadn't played Final Fantasy VII ever during the top 10 list? It was unexpectedly high, considering it's the most popular game on the site and the second place game had a much higher playing rate (only 12.39% said they'd NEVER played it, and another 15% said they had played it but not beaten it). It was nearly as high as those who said that it was indeed the best game ever after Sp2K4 (around 25%, plus another 20% who said they'd played it but never beaten it). Basically, you've got OoT having a little more combined "Never played" and "played but never beat" votes than FFVII had solely on "I've never played it at all" votes. It got 28% saying it is indeed the best game ever right after Sp2K4, and another 38.5% saying it's in the top 10. Heck, I think you get a lot of "loyalty" votes in GotY polls because there ARE people who have not necessarily played those games. Final Fantasy X-2 got 31% in the final 2004 GotY poll against The Wind Waker and absolutely DOMINATED the PS2 GotY poll (only PoP: Sands of Time broke double digit percentage at 10.51%). Just chew on that one a little bit. A brand name does carry a lot of weight. The KH brand name doesn't carry that same kind of weight yet. Heck, Final Fantasy X won the 2001 GotY poll despite being out for all of TWO WEEKS at the time of release and nobody else came close. The biggest brand name on the site will do that for ya. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Roxas, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

Since discussion is kinda slow right now, let's talk about Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I am so stoked for this game. Wario, Pit, and Meta-Knight were all obvious choices for new characters. No one was surprised by them. Zero Suit Samus, on the other hand, is pretty cool. Do you think she'll be a totally separate character from Samus or that you'll switch between the two like with Zelda and Shiek? Snake being in the game opens up a whole new range of possibilities for new characters. I would place about a 90% probability of Sonic being in the game at this point. Since Nintendo is already in cahorts with Konami, a Castlevania character seems like an easy choice too. Alucard in SSBB? One can dream. I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that Ike from FE9 will be in the game, and it wouldn't surprise me if he replaced Roy (since Roy was just in SSBM to advertise FE6.) Besides, it looks like Crimea Castle is already an arena in the game. Look at the flag here... http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a28/joeljermon/?action=view¤t=flag2.jpg ...and compare it to the Daein crest here... http://eaichu250.superbusnet.com/FE9/images/CGs/Map6.jpg ...and there's an obvious similarity. Not to mention that the background of that castle area looks highly similar to Ashnard's throne room in FE9. I am extremely pumped for this game. --- "Thank you, Mario.
