To go after that bracket ...

1. Mario Bros.
4. Diablo

3. Chrono
2. Sonic

1. Final Fantasy
5. Final Fantasy Tactics

3. Halo
2. Metroid

1. Legend of Zelda
4. Mega Man X

3. Grand Theft Auto
2. Metal Gear

1. Mega Man
5. Devil May Cry

3. Kingdom Hearts
2. Super Smash Brothers

1. Mario Bros.
1. Final Fantasy

1. The Legend of Zelda
1. Mega Man

I thought there were some pretty good matches in there. Perhaps I'm the only one, but I had to think for a bit about Final Fantasy Tactics against Soul Calibur. Halo and Metroid was another good one. Mega Man X and Street Fighter was another good one, I thought. I did not really have too much trouble running through and predicting, so I thought it was more on the easy side, but that would probably change if I heard some arguments for certain matches here in the stats topic. This bracket does give me some hope that we're going to see a really good one at or before Monday.

Yeah, people could vote based on series loyalty, but then why didn't those people vote for the PS3? If there's one thing we've learned over the years it's that voters overlap significantly. The Final Fantasy and Zelda fanbases are anything but mutually exclusive and I'd argue that TP had a bigger presence at the show, based on the fact that it was playable, the news that it will launch on the Wii, and it simply had more media and exposure than the short FFXIII trailer.

Twilight Princess really did not have that big of a presence at the show. It has been there for a long while now and playing it on the Wii was not exactly given the most positive of comments from people who played it. It definitely had its place at the show, but it being bigger than Final Fantasy XIII? I have yet to see evidence of that anywhere on the Internet.

There is not any "fanboy mode" present at the moment at all. Trying to tell me Twilight Princess had a larger 'presence' at the show than Final Fantasy XIII is just ... wrong. It was not anywhere near as big a deal as it has been in the past. This is the second time it has been playable at E3, it was not even playable on the GameCube this year, and it did receive quite a bit of negative criticism from people who actually had played it. People were complaining that it was nearly impossible to use the bow and arrow efficiently. It was a big game, sure, but nowhere near a dominative presence at E3. Final Fantasy XIII has been large basically everywhere based off of a trailer alone.

I think Square did FFXII a great misjustice. It is going to be more forgotten than FFIX is. No one seems to care about it at all, rather they talk about FFXIII. This could seriously affect its sales and I think it was idiotic for Square to release stuff on FFXIII already, even if Sony insisted.

I'd have to agree with him, actually. Nintendo had a great showing for sure, arguably (and IMO) the best. But TP didn't have a lot to do with that. FFXIII media was all over the place, even though the actual trailer, IMO, was a tad disappointing (the futuristic setting and fast paced gameplay).

RPGuy beat me to it. With the way the Wii dominated with the most impressive games (56%, doubled second-place Sony), it would be easy to simply divide and reason from there. FFXIII -- when FFXII isn't even out yet -- would have to consist of 14% to 19% of the PS3's 27.03% (and you'd agree MGS4 was massive as-is; I can't imagine it getting less than half) to compete with the Wii's average which would vary depending on if MP3 made it in or not...and, no matter what the favorite of Nintendo's line-up is, there would have to be one that FFXIII would need to outdo to win.

i agree. FFXII is not going to sell nearly as well as it could have due to it's timing. although, i really do think Sony strongly pressured Square to show something on FFXIII because they really had no other new games to wow players with. MGS4 was impressive, but we've already seen a trailer and info about that already. if not for FFXIII, the PS3 would have had no new high-profile games to show off.

but, i for one am still looking forward to FFXII, even if few other people are.

oh, and my new computer came much sooner than expected. it feels good to be back. ^_^

I just went to IGNPS3 and there's no link to FFXIII anywhere on the front page, so I'm not entirely sure where you're getting this from.

There was a link on the first page throughout the entire show up until yesterday. It had a picture of the female lead and said, "One of the best looking PS3 games" or something similar.

Based upon all the various gaming websites I visit (GameSpot, 1UP, IGN, GAF, etc.) there was tons of talk about Final Fantasy XIII based upon just one trailer and a few screenshots. Usually, you will find that a game that was first unveiled and is as huge as Final Fantasy is will generate hype far more than a title than has been at E3 for three years now. These are the only three websites with a Top 10 Most Popular bit that is tracked daily and each of them is rather different, so take a look ...

1UP.com's Top 10 Most Popular

1.) Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots
2.) Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops
3.) Mass Effect
4.) Dead or Alive Xtreme 2
5.) Final Fantasy XIII
6.) Final Fantasy versus XIII
7.) Halo 3
8.) Super Paper Mario
9.) Final Fantasy III
10.) World of Warcraft : Burning Crusade

GameSpot's Top 10 Most Popular
1.) Super Smash Bros. Brawl
2.) Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots
3.) Dead or Alive Xtreme 2
4.) World of Warcraft : Burning Crusade
5.) Halo 3
6.) Microsoft Flight Simulator X
7.) Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops
8.) Rise of Nations : Rise of Legends
9.) Command and Conquer 3 : Tiberium Wars
10.) Gothic 3

GameStat's Top 10 Most Popular
1.) Halo 3
2.) God of War II
3.) Red Steel
4.) WWE SmackDown v. Raw 2007
5.) Super Smash Bros. Brawl
6.) Gears of War
7.) Super Mario Galaxy
8.) The Legend of Zelda : Phantom Hourglass
9.) The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess
10.) The Legend of Zelda : Twilight Princess (Wii version)

The most Nintendo based one of the entire bunch would be GameStat's, which is related to IGN. I updated with these the first two days of E3, I believe, and Final Fantasy XIII was ahead of Twilight Princess in both cases. I'm not trying to say that Twilight Princess was insignificant, but it was not that big at this year's E3. There was far more new Nintendo titles to be interested in, the playable demo was not a mind blowing experience on the Wii, it was not playable on the GameCube, and there was just nothing new about it this year. The newest deal is that there will be two separate versions -- one for the GCN and one for the Wii. It was old news that Twilight Princess could be played using the Wiimote. Everyone had already gotten hands-on with it before at E3 2005. And it has been there for three years now, with two years of that being playable. Honestly, telling me Twilight Princess did have more of a presence is being far more of a fanboy than you claim I'm being.

Where have you heard any talk about Twilight Princess concerning this year's E3? It was even talked about that much on Board 8 -- one of the most favorable boards for Nintendo on here.

We are still a ways off from anything Final Fantasy XIII related. That took a lot of buzz away from Final Fantasy XII at E3, sure, but there was not anything particularly new about it there. I fully expect everyone to start anticipating Final Fantasy XII again once we get closer to October, when the game launches. I think we're going to see Final Fantasy XIII in late 2007, which is an entire year for Final Fantasy XII to accumulate the majority of its sales. Sony seems to be supporting the PS2 even well after the PS3 is released because it has God of War II coming in 2007, too. I expect the PS2 sales to be high up even after the Wii and PS3 are released here in the states.

Final Fantasy XII is still likely going to go on to sell something around 5 - 6 million worldwide. It may hurt, but it is not going to kill the game at all. I do not expect to get much, if any, FFXIII information until after FFXII is released here in the states.

Percentage of people who think they will have each console a year from now and change from results take 15 minutes into the poll:

Wii - 64.06 (-6.62)
PS3 - 45.62 (+3.74)
360 - 30.39 (+2.01)

Still an impressive performace by Wii but once again it took a large fall from where it started at the beginning of the day. Interestingly, PS3 made a larger gain than the 360.

Speaking of lions, just beat the Pride Lands earlier today in Kingdom Hearts II. I must say, this game has improved on the original in pretty much every single way, and this is coming from somebody who loved the first game.
