There is one thing to keep in mind here before trumpeting Snake's chances because of this SSB thing. He may not be the only non-Nintendo Noble Niner to make an appearance in SSB. wow.. that's just nuts. as far as contest strength goes - I don't think it's going to help him all that much. most of the characters that he would boost over are Nintendo characters who are also in the game. I don't think Snake is going to take that many votes away from them. he'll beat inferior competition better than before, but it's just difficult to move up the ranks of the Noble Nine. besides, this isn't going to matter until 2007 at the earliest. --- xyzzy |

Solid Snake has just owned E3 2006. But if Sonic or Mega Man aren't in it (Crono almost certainly won't be), that'll help Snake that much more. Plus, there's the boost he'll get with MGS4. the closest thing, in my mind, is Square characters being in KH. KH and
FF are similar and on the same consoles though; these are two

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Playable Characters unveiled! by IGN Staff May 10, 2006 - Nintendo just pulled a fast one on us. At an after-hours press briefing a mere minute ago, the company pulled another ace out of its sleeve: Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- the next installment in Nintendo's popular Super Smash Bros. series. Shigeru Miyamoto himself has confirmed the following playable characters: # Pit (Kid Icarus) # Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid) # Zero Suit Samus (the blue "no-suit" Samus from Metroid: Zero Mission) # Metaknight (Kirby) # Wario (Wario) Under the direction of series creator Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will feature classic, GameCube-style combat -- not Wii-style motion-controlled combat. That means players who prefer to play the game with the traditional control setup can do so using the GameCube control-style they're already accustomed to while the new motion control adds a new dimension previously not available in fighting games. The game also features a range of new nasty toys, such as the ability to unleash a puppy from Nintendogs that will run up to the screen, put its paws up and obscure the view of the action. Mario, Kirby, Pikachu and Link have been confirmed as returning characters. Sakurai confirmed that Wario actually has a fart attack and that Solid Snake can use his trusty cardboard box. In the video trailer, Snake gets out of the box and says "It's showtime!" Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. More updates! Sakurai said the decision to include Solid Snake when Hideo Kojima himself practically "begged" to include the Metal Gear character in the last Smash Bros. game. When asked about the possibility of Sonic the Hedgehod appearing in the game as well, Shigeru Miyamoto said: "There are probably possibilities for other third parties as well, and it maybe that even know there are corporate discussions going on about including some of these other characters." --- Mustache...and green... http://www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/NintendoDesktop2.jpg |

Gran Turismo 3 may be the most popular game this generation, but GT
definitely is not at all popular at GameFAQs. IIRC, GT3 scored
something like 2% in the PS2 GotY poll. Or maybe that was GT4. Still,
GT is even less popular here than Madden is. And you listed nine series... As for SSBB...this is pretty much the greatest thing ever. Using the WiiCon was the only thing holding me back from this game making the Wii a system seller for me, and GC controls have been confirmed, which is great. It's just too bad it was delayed 'til 2007...probably Winter 2k7, since it's such a big game. It'll definitely help Snake out. Someone on NGG mentioned something about a poll on Nintendo's Japanese website asking fans if they wanted Tails in the game, which could also be interesting. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

This could be one of the most significant boosts ever. Snake only
appearing on Sony and then later on Microsoft consoles now being
featured in one of Nintendo's most popular games ever. I always feared
Snake dropping out of the noble nine, as he's by far my favorite in
there, but I honestly can't see it happening now, unless of course he

It would probably be better for MM to just have Mega Man in the contest, because regardless of what Ceej says, people will look at the series as everything Mega Man. If MMX makes it and the original doesn't (not going to happen) then people may realize "Oh it's only MMX,"
or if both make it, they may look at them as two different entities,
taking away some of the power from MM for those who prefer MMX, or are

They confirmed four player online play? Phew. I was just reading the
most recent gamespot news article, and they had quoted someone saying
it would be hard to do. I don't know, I suppose I'm negative, but that
trailer did not blow me away the way the gamecube one did. That one was
fantastic, serious, and epic...this was less serious, kiddy, I guess (a
nintendog?), and...wario farting...? I suppose the gc sb made too much an impact on my mind to be easily erased by one trailer. --- Revenge is a dish best served cold. ~ Old Klingon Proverb |
