I think so. I thought Kingdom Hearts II alone would be sufficient, but
then there Advent Children, their unveiling of FFXIII, a spectacular E3
performance, Dirge of Cerberus in the middle of the contest, and
perhaps FFIII DS depending on when the contest begins. We've already

Actually you know, console's been pretty cool of late. My apologies. But you're nuts you think I'm leaving Tai on that list. Err, ok I guess.. Though I don't see why anyone should be excluded. Perhaps I'm not one to argue, but just the principle of not allowing someone in seems a bit stupid and elitist to me. This year, there's an added stipulation of the winner's nomination of choice getting thrown ono everyone else's list for the summer. I do believe I said Square and not Sony. If you think it
is the least bit shocking that Nintendo is winning today's poll like
they are, you have not kept up. I enjoyed the Sony press conference,
but Nintendo's was easily the most entertaining of the bunch.
Microsoft's was quite good, but Lord knows the bias against the company
here at GameFAQs. If there is a poll showing Final Fantasy XIII, I fully expect it to dominate, even if Zelda or other Nintendo titles appear in the poll. This is not indicative of anything contest related in the slightest. As I predicted last topic, yesterday was the start of the swing
that's going to put Zelda on top a month from now and keep Link on top
later this year. ...I don't see why, what with Square dishing out all sorts of goodness. I voted for Nintendo because it was obvious that they DID have the most impressive conference. Honestly, there could've been no press conferences at all and the results likely would've been the same. Voting is just mainly going to go by "I like Sony/Nintendo/XBox", and the actual focus of the question is largely irrelevant. Why in the world are we talking about Sony like they have had a major
presence in contests before? Sony being viewed as poorly has no bearing

The subject came up that Nintendo is dominating this poll so the boost
for Zelda in both contests is to be expected. That was taken from
Ngamer who thought I said Sony has rocked E3, when I actually said Square.
Why a discussion is breaking out between how good or bad Nintendo and
Sony did doesn't make much sense to me, really. This is not unexpected,
shocking, or even fortelling of what will happen in the contest. A hit
to Sony does not really affect anything on GamFAQs in relation to
contests because their entries have consisted of Jak, Ratchet, and

I was merely commenting on what a terrible job Sony did, and how badly
they're screwing up the PS3 as reflected by the GameFAQs populace. You
can probably draw a correlation between how Sony is perceived and how
strong Square is, but I have no idea how strong a relationship that

Sony is not "screwing up" nearly as badly as some people like to
believe. The only thing that was even remotely negative about what they
have shown off so far was the price point of the PlayStation 3, which
is indeed quite expensive, but by no means a killer to the industry
leader. And regardless of how Sony is viewed, it does not stop Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 from being two of the biggest games at the show so far. Hell, nothing Nintendo has even mentioned has surpassed those two. What you have here is people reacting negatively right when they hear negative news. They do not think ahead or figure the games that might interest them on the system at the exact time something like a $600 console is announced. I think there will be far less "hatred" and negativity as we get closer to the PS3 launch and further away from this announcement of the price. Even with its high price, it is not going to kill the system. No one, even after hearing the price, is expecting Sony to lose its position as the industry leader. There are plenty of ways that Sony will be able to market that to the consumer to make it seem justified -- and it really actually is given the technology in it. The PlayStation brand is also held in such high regard that it is not going to instantly be looked down upon in the flash of a price announcement. And, ultimately, it is about the games on the system. No one, even after hearing the price, is expecting Sony to lose its position as the industry leader. I am. I'm sure they can sell out their initial shipment at $600, but if the price stays there after the holidays, sales are going to drop like a rock. Remember the Neo Geo? Everyone I knew thought they were awesome, but no one could afford one. If Sony doesn't lower their price quickly, they're going to lose a ton of marketshare. That's like saying the NCAAs don't belong to Guy because swirldude helps with the work. It's a co-commissioner thing really. Although Guy has used his superior knowledge of programming to get an RPI and vote counting program and leave me to do less. I've also been much busier the last couple of weeks. And the contest was originally my idea, I just asked him to join up because I couldnt figure the RPI for the life of me. --- Xbox 360 melts disks! If 5% are willing to spend $600+, that's 5 million sales right there.
The issue is not how well the PS3 will sell in the first few months,
it's how well it well sell in 2008 and beyond. The PSP was doing
phenomenally for the first few months, and now it's falling behind the
DS at an ever-increasing rate. The X360 is the fastest-selling console
ever, but does anyone really think it'll outsell the PS2? And you mention that FFXIII and MGS4 are far more impressive than anything on the Wii...just like Super Mario 64 was far more impressive than anything in the Playstation's first 2 years, and how it managed to have the best-selling game for each of its first three years, and was still tripled in sales by the PS1. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

I do not see how someone could project it selling extremely well in its first couple of years and then suddenly dropping off the map in the next. By the time 2008 rolls around, Sony will likely have dropped the price -- the main problem that people seem to have with the PS3 -- and would have gotten an extensive gaming library. The difference between the PSP/DS and PS3/Wii is the fact that the PSP suffers greatly from big software to support the system. It relies on its multimedia functions over its actual gaming software. The DS, on the other hand, is constantly getting new gaming software that is selling really well. It is already clear that the PS3 is not going to suffer from third party support. The PSP was doing phenomenally for the first few months, and now it's falling behind the DS at an ever-increasing rate. The X360 is the fastest-selling console ever, but does anyone really think it'll outsell the PS2? Almost everything new these days is the "fastest selling console ever," so it is really not a big title. But the PSP, while definitely behind the DS, is not doing terribly for itself. For Sony's first venture into a market where Nintendo dominated, they did rather well. It outsells the DS by about 20,000 units per month in America and is putting up a solid fight in other territories. And you mention that FFXIII and MGS4 are far more impressive than anything on the Wii...just like Super Mario 64 was far more impressive than anything in the Playstation's first 2 years, and how it managed to have the best-selling game for each of its first three years, and was still tripled in sales by the PS1. That is just two very popular, very impressive PS3 titles thus far. Those are not the extent of the PS3's lineup. The gaming library, again, is likely to be huge by 2008. It is getting Grand Theft Auto in October 2007, so there is no doubt in my mind it will be a huge seller even at that time. With the big successes of Sonic and Solid Snake at E3 (and with it
finally looking like Sega got the 3-D Sonic formula RIGHT), is it
possible that they will climb out of the basement of the Noble Nine in
2007? Sonic doesn't need much help to overtake Mega Man, but would it
be enough to overtake, say, Crono? Solid Snake would need a little more help, but could he climb out of the #9 spot?
