Whenever questions are asked about the Madden series in the poll, it
usually seems to have a nice amount of popularity, IIRC. People often
forget that these aren't the message boards just voting, but every
single person that visits the homepage, and that includes a lot of
casuals. Sure it'd get anti-voted, but it's a very unpredictable series IMO, and I'm glad I have one spot left to nominate it. Madden would tank. If you forget to sign yourself onto the list, don't
be surprised if you're not on it come game time. Certain people won't

I've been playing Madden games since 1992, back when I was 9 years old.
I've been in that fanbase for 14 years now. Most of us don't visit GF,
I assure you. Go check any poll involving a sporting game not named

There have been many Madden polls, and if my memory serves me they've
done just fine here, don't hold me to this, as I'm not really positive,
and am far too tired to go searching through polls. I'll let the human

Madden wouldn't be all so unpredictable. Already knowing from a poll a
year or two ago that EA is more hated here than Microsoft and that
Madden '94 got #91 on the Top 100 List (beaten by two write-ins, and
the drop-down box only had 130 games in it), not to mention these three

And I digress! Madden I don't think, will ever be one of those games to ever win a game of the year poll. Because quite frankly, it's usually a game people play for fun, nothing really revolutionary from one to the next, but still something a lot of people enjoy, not the most extroadinary game they've played all year however. Also take into account that not everyone buys each Madden from year to year, I know I buy one, and wait for 3 years to get an update. Say I have 2002, I'll wait until 2005 to get another one, or if a new gen of a system comes out. And I know there are many people who do the same, granted not all, maybe not even the majority, but still. Now if it's faced up with a game with only moderate strength, nearly everyone has played a Madden game, and had at least some fun with it, and I think it could perform well on games with some fanbase, but not a huge one. Say maybe the 25% on the champ or whatever, x-stats wise. As for Madden '94 getting '91 on the poll, guess what, most of the gamers who visit this site weren't playing games at that age, hell that would make me 5, and granted I was playing games at that time, it sure as hell wasn't Madden. Along with the Madden series improving and gaining much more popularity through the years. I'm not trying to say it's going to be a powerhouse, hell I haven't even convinced myself of whether it would take out games in that area, but I think to simply dismiss it is a very, very foolish mistake. --- Explicit Content I used to be Asian, but I didn't get good enough grades so my parents beat it out of me. - snalien |

Man, I am so disappointed that the Summer Contest is starting later.
Figures it has to start the latest (maybe) the summer I start college. FACT OR FICTION: Madden will lose in the first round, but over half the brackets will have it going to the next round anyway. Personally, I see Chrono as one of the biggest wildcards of the tournament. It could let Chrono Trigger carry it to the Final 4, or it could collapse ever earlier. Does anyone want to take guesses as to how many Mario series will make it in? Personally, I'm gonna go with Super Mario, Mario Kart, and Mario RPGS. I hope Mario Party could make it in as well, but I doubt it. I'm also predicting that Resident Evil and Soul Calibur could surprise a lot of people. I am really not sure whether to go with Zelda or FF in the inevitable final. TP hype might be pretty big by the time the match rolls around. Am I the only one who wants to see FF Vs. Heh, seeing FF/KH happen would help make sure people under-estimate
Sora, and it's arguable whether or not we're already under-estimating
him and KH2's influence. That said, I really hope we see no SFF this

I present to you, my dear Gurus, a bracket consisting of 32 series, so that you may ruminate on potential matches. Classics 1 Super Mario 8 Contra 4 Donkey Kong Country 5 Street Fighter 6 Chrono 3 Mega Man 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 7 Mario Kart I think the bottom four pack is the strongest in the entire bracket, and I think the seeding is probably pretty accurate. Unless more people nominate Chrono than I think. In any case, Mario cruises over the DKC2/SFII winner, only to meet with a fearsome rival from the bottom half. Mario/Chrono, yet again? Or the long awaited Mario/Sonic or Mario/Mega Man? Rivalries 1 Final Fantasy 8 Dragon Quest 4 Kirby 5 Devil May Cry 6 Half-Life 3 Halo 2 Grand Theft Auto 7 Gran Turismo Sorry, Chichiri, but I couldn't help myself. Lots of "cute" matches here, with a pretty wide open bottom half and Final Fantasy dominating everything anyway. Which of the four "casual" series is the strongest, I wonder... Legends 1 The Legend of Zelda 8 Pac-Man 4 Resident Evil 5 Diablo 6 SoulCalibur 3 Castlevania 2 Kingdom Hearts 7 WarCraft I apologize in advance to Pac-Man. I think I've overseeded both KH and Castlevania, but I'll live. I can't shake memories of KH disappointing in the Spring, so I set it up against a Blizzard game and a potential SC rematch, with Castlevania thrown in the mix. And, of course, Zelda dominates everything else. I was actually thinking of switching CV/SC with Halo/HL...but it would screw up my division names. <_< Good idea or bad? Malice 1 Metal Gear Solid 8 Madden 4 Mega Man X 5 Final Fantasy Tactics 6 Pokemon 3 Super Smash Bros. 2 Metroid 7 Mario RPG ...Yeah, so I couldn't of a terribly good M word (seeing as how 5 series here start with M and Masterpieces is too long). In the top half, there's the potential for both MGS/MMX and MGS/FFT...best of both worlds, really. Madden is in at fodder because I don't really know where else to put it. On the bottom, Pokemon or Mario RPG could be a sleeper, but the real battle is Metroid/SSB. And the winner of the whole division is pretty much up in the air. The Final Four, unfortunately, isn't terribly exciting. I could make LoZ/FF a semifinal match, but even Mario/winner of Malice probably wouldn't be that great. So I opted to keep that as the final. So, RPGuy96, I still think you're missing out on a potentionally good
match. Swap the divisions so that Zelda and Mario go up against each
other in the semi's. It's better than having the obvious champ beat the

Sexy bracket. 1 Super Mario 8 Contra No-brainer. 4 Donkey Kong Country 5 Street Fighter Also a no-brainer, but I could be underestimating the DKC series. I've never played anything in it, though DK is the master of choking. 6 Chrono 3 Mega Man Crono may be > Mega Man, but his series consists of one good game. Mega's series consists of dozens of good games. I'd give Mega a slight edge, plus Crono's been on the decline. 2 Sonic the Hedgehog 7 Mario Kart No-brainer. 1 Final Fantasy 8 Dragon Quest Poor Chris. 4 Kirby 5 Devil May Cry Before DMC3, I'd pick Kirby without thinking. After Dante's performance last year and the fact that I think Kirby got some weird SFF on Bowser (mix of rSFF and hero:villain), they'd be very close. The thing that decides it for me is all the anti-voting Dante will get, because Board 8 has preferred Kirby to DMC ever since ertyu began posting here. We do make the biggestr difference in close matches, for whatever reason. 6 Half-Life 3 Halo GFNW. Moving on... 2 Grand Theft Auto 7 Gran Turismo *pukes* 1 The Legend of Zelda 8 Pac-Man ... 4 Resident Evil 5 Diablo Toughest matchup yet, especially given that we haven't seen Resident Evil 4 in a match. I'm picking RE solely based on Leon's doing better than Diablo last summer. 6 Soul Calibur 3 Castlevania Even if Castlevania SOTN is stuck behind LTTP/Goldeneye SFF, I still don't think it's getting anywhere near Soul Calibur. 2 Kingdom Hearts 7 WarCraft You people overrate the hell out of Warcraft, personally. On GF, the chain is Starcraft > Diablo > Warcraft. 1 Metal Gear Solid 8 Madden Whee. 4 Mega Man X 5 Final Fantasy Tactics Tough match, but Metal Gear Solid did beat FFT in Spring 2004. The Mega Man X series (voted more popular than the original, you'll remember) should have no problems, plus I wouldn't mind seeing FFT lose if it meant FFTA not winning. 6 Pokemon 3 Super Smash Bros. I think there's been enough proof out there that SC is among the only fighting series Gamefaqs really gives a crap about. The series which gave us the first reason to buy a DS, the oldschool series which still makes classic 2D titles, and Castlevania Sotn did not only do great against an underrated opponent, but it also placed higher than Kingdom Hearts on the top 100 list.
