I would take the Sonic series over the Mega Man original series OR the Mega Man X series...I wonder how much fans of Mega Man will pick one and not the other against Sonic though, thus making it tougher.

I'd take Sonic, but...yikes.

I kinda agree, but I think Mega Man X will be slightly stronger, and that Sonic and Mega Man will be that close. So Mega Man X being only slightly better will sway the match.

I'd take KH... not by much though. I don't believe in KH's strength, unlike a certain Mario.

I'm also on the record saying that MGS will be the fourth strongest series in this thing. the only series that scares me is SSB right now.

Regardless of what Ceej says, I think when most voters see "Mega Man" and "Sonic" they're going to be thinking of ALL the games.

I definitely agree with you. It only makes a difference for stat topic discussion semantics, but that's half the fun.

Sonic > Mega Man X > Mega Man. Seeing how Mega Man X has been the prominent series for him for the last 12 years or so... The only way I can see Mega Man > Mega Man X is for fans of other spinoffs like Battle Network gravitate towards the original... But the Mega Man Zero would cancel that out towards the X series... It comes down to X and Zero > Mega Man and Protoman.

About the contest as a whole, I think it's looking pretty good. While some people may not like it since it groups games into series (which means no individual FFs or Zeldas which have distinct fanbases), it lets series like Mega Man, Sonic, Mario Kart, etc. that are more about the series overall rather than individual games to shine in a contest setting.

One thing I'm wondering is how are contest pictures going to be resolved? With Sonic, Mega Man, and Zelda, it's pretty clear that Ceej can just have a picture of the main protagonists. But what about FF? Will it be just a picture of the original game? 2-3 of the most popular characters from the series? Pictures of multiple boxes? I'm interested to see how everything is represented...

Sonic would beat Solid in a character-battle and he's had many more games, but Solid's games are bigger than him and the series has had a more recent big release than Sonic. It's be good...but give me MGS.

BOLD STATEMENT!

The Castlevania series will be the strongest non Noble Nine (LoZ, FF, Mario, MGS, Metroid, Mega Man, Sonic, Chrono) series. And it could challenge the last three series on that list, even.

Yeah, I just realized that my bold prediction wasn't that bold at all.

Look at the top 100 list. MGS2 are only like 5 places away from Sonic 2, while MGS and MGS 3 is in the top 20.

C:SotN isn't reason enough for me to believe the Castlevania series will get that close to any of those listed (or SSB, either). It'll do well though, no question.

I doubt it... SotN may have a decent following on this site, but series like Halo and GTA are more popular overall in my eyes. And it's not like they didn't do well on The List as well, as they placed 9th and 11th respectively, both ahead of SotN. Vice City did pretty well in the games contest as well, and San Andreas is an even bigger threat. Castlevania would have a fight on its hands if it faced any of those two.

I'm almost certain the MM series would be stronger than the MMX series in any match where they're not facing each other. The simple reason is that lots of voters will think of MMX as part of the Mega Man Series, but not vice versa.

I want to take Diablo as well -- I see it competing with Starcraft, afterall, and Starcraft beat KH without controversy. KH2 and the influx of Square fans may keep it from losing though...

Diablo, 55-45.

Kingdom Hearts lost to StarCraft folks and put up a miserable performance against Soul Calibur (which it should have walked over). Diablo beat Kefka, so I would think it is possible.

It's hard to tell at this point how much of KH's popularity will fade from now until the contest and how much will stay. It's going to be significantly stronger than kh was in 2k4 for sure, but the question is by how much.

I think LoZ stands more of a chance against final fanatasy than some might think.

Well the Legend of Zelda series will be a lot stronger than we think, since it's not just it's individual games, but all of them combined. It's basically what Link's popularity represents. So we should see something similar to Link in strength with that.

But we've never seen all of the FFs combined. Remember that they have distinct fanbases. This is going to be a united front, all in all a contest strength we have never seen the likes of! Tremble!

I woudn't be surprised if the Tomb Raider series made the second round, y'know. Legend was a big enough hit for it to get a lot of coverage, and if she gets the new Lara pic and a good seeding, she might well end up with a win of 52%+ over a first round opponent.

Here's a wuestion to think about: will series with traditionally weak characters be weak themselves? i.e. would suikoden be as weak as luca blight, or considerably stronger?

Legends may have done enough for her to get her in the contest, but I wouldn't count on a win any time soon unless she gets a weak opponent.
