I am and have always been a firm believer in the fact that the contest pictures can make a huge difference, usually for more than anyone gives them credit. Usually,
if voters aren't very familiar with either character (I bet that at
least 10-20% usually aren't), they will more than likely vote for the
"cooler looking" one. The Ocelot/Pac-Man is a great example of
this, as was Snake/Sora. No SFF was in play. It was simply the fact

Correction: Usually, if voters aren't very familiar with either character or are not particularly partial to either character (I bet that at least 10-20% usually aren't), they will more than likely vote for the "cooler looking" one. I highly doubt there are many gamers who don't know who Snake and Sora are. But I bet there are a lot who aren't particularly fans of either. That Snake/Sora picture was classic Metal Gear Solid, so anyone who has ever played a Metal Gear Solid game probably got a chuckle out of the pic. Plus Sora wasn't even prominent in the pic. http://www.sc2k5.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=6&pos=59 That picture just screamed Metal Gear Solid. I don't see how anybody but diehard fans of Sora or people who really don't like Snake or care for Metal Gear Solid could vote for Sora in that pic. And we already know that Metal Gear Solid is popular on this site. It's kinda the same thing with Bowser/Snake. The picture just screamed Super Mario Bros. at you, (although there was that Metal Gear inside joke). But you can't deny that Bowser and the SMB persona dominated the picture. I'm sure he got somewhat of an advantage out of that. Yeah, the biased Snake/Bowser picture ticked me off at the time. All
Snake got was an inside joke that most people aren't going to

Ha, it's funny that we're discussing the possible ps2 sff with sora vs
snake. I don't know if the person is still around (I don't really pay
too much attention to names) but remember when that one person was
arguing (somewhat childishly, iirc) for that a little after the match?

It was either the picture, Playstation SFF, or something we've yet to
pin-point, because nobody believes Sora's legitimate strength is enough

Are we forgetting the match with Agent 47, where Sora only won with 70 percent? Or HK-47, where he only won with 65 percent? Sora's odd... he is strong, but for some reason doesn't have the ability for a blowout. He actually did better than a lot of people expected against HK-47
(mostly because they thought his 2003 number was correct). And Agent 47

Also, both 47's are likely one-and-done characters, making it tough to
get a feel for where they really belong on the scale o' crap. I'd say
Sora's ups far outweigh his downs during the past two years. Doing only
1.28% worse than Zero on a common opponent, bowing out with a somewhat
respectable loss to Samus, and overperforming against Alucard all more

47 also has been placed in video games in the same deliberate way
for almost 20 years. Examples include Earl Weaver Baseball (the
batter's uniform number is 47), Hitman (the name of the main character

I keep picturing the Snake/Sora picture, only with a perplexed Bowser

consolefreak arguing that Snake/Sora SFF in the most immature way
possible was annoying, but there was a lot of validity to the point.
It's just far easier to see Nintendo SFF because of all the first party
success Nintendo has with their consoles. Snake/Sora, FF7 > Suikoden
2/Xenogears/MGS, Tifa/Vyse, Sephiroth/Liquid, et al may all be in the

Tifa/Vyse Huh? Well, I guess you can look at it that Skies of Arcadia is so cult, and FFVII is so popular that most of the SoA fanbase is likely to have played FFVII. But I really think it was due to Vyse just being so unknown to the masses. Last I checked, Link did. =P About Vyse...Vyse faced Donkey Kong before, too, and he's nothing short of a gaming icon, yet it was about a 62-38 match in the year we had the highest vote-totals. All joking aside, I agree with most of what Heroic Mario had to say
about Sora. I'd definitely consider him against Luigi or Zero, and I'd

Awesome way to end the first round with Ken/Subs and Prince/Lara. There are some matches which would be definitely debated in the middle rounds, such as Squall/Bowser, Aeris/Auron (or Kirby/Auron, as I'm guessing most of the board would side with Kirby), and Sora/Dante/Luigi. Also, we'll be getting some unseen Noble 9 matches (Sonic/Snake and Samus/Crono in the same contest? Sweet...). The only things I am immediately not fond of are the facts that Ganondorf is not being used and Gordon may actually win a match. --- Board 8: Where people treat each other right. |

I think Kefka would get just above 50% on Freeman (so as to keep both
GFNW and the tradition of him scoring at least 40% on everyone he faces

It appears Gordon's surprising 2005 performance has clouded my

Hearts Division would be if Sora was a 1 Seed. I don't think Tifa/Vyse is SFF. Vyse went up against Cloud, and he looked as good as he could have in that match, with his cult fanbase back up the meager percentage he got. Now, with the monster fanbase that FFVII has, would a huge number of people who haven't heard of Vyse vote for him over another well-known character from the same game? |

Peach and DK should be switched, Ganondorf needs to be in that first match with Vincent and have the winner fed to Snake (neither has a shot against Sonic). Too many of the rally tournament winners facing each other, and too many midcarders in unwinnable matches, but overall good. |
