Which is far more than Ness takes from SSB/M, who Falcon is supposedly strong enough to beat (according to many board denizens). lol.

If he's at best toe-to-toe with Ness (and there's not a damn thing to suggest otherwise, except some dellusional people who think SSBM players give two ****s about Falcon but some reason they don't feel the same towards Ness.

I must be out of touch with the SSB/M fanbase, because everybody I know prefers Falcon to Ness. Pros at the game may prefer Ness to Falcon, but I would think that Falcon would be more popular among casuals.

I was meaning it at more of a Ness>CF point than a CF-is-weak point. I would probably give him the benefit of the doubt and say his max is 20% (closer to 19% though). He wouldn't be bad or anything, I just don't see him doing much better than that.

??? His max? PAC-MAN is at 20% (22% if you're going off of Base Link). I would easily take Falcon AND Ness over him. I see no reason why Falcon and Ness would struggle to hang with anybody in that range.

I would vote for the PoP in a lot of his matches, but that doesn't mean that I like his games better than Wind Waker or Resident Evil 4. After reading Serious Sam's bio on the site, I was reminded of a thought I had a while ago:

Nearly every match in the contest has SFF.

In fact, characters like Mario, Link, and Mega Man can SFF people who have nothing to do with them, simply because they're so well known and so popular. People have different tastes, and the popularity of some characters may draw anti-votes from others (I'm talking about Master Chief and Squall, specifically), so it's hard to tell where those characters fall. Other characters who are well-known but not particularly liked fall victim to SFF rather easily (like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong).

I'm one of the few who think Ness is 23+%. I just think the SSB/M fanbase has favored Ness more than CF and that EB has a bigger following here than the entire F-Zero series...not to mention Ness is a bigger part of EB than CF is to his series.

Obviously, the SSB/M fanbase part is debatable -- I never thought of it as being so, but that's almost all I've seen lately. For what it's worth though, I maintain that -- no matter the size of their fanbases outside of SSB/M -- EB is bigger than the F-Zero series and Ness in EB > CF in the F-Zero series. I also think that Ness was THE fan-favorite in SSB, so that's just a lil' more in his favor if I'm right...

...from there, even if CF is more liked in SSBM than Ness, you aren't going to convince me he's THAT much more favored than Ness until the day CF upsets Ness. I'm sticking with Ness having CF's number in every aspect though. Ness wins with 55% or more.

I would vote for the PoP in a lot of his matches, but that doesn't mean that I like his games better than Wind Waker or Resident Evil 4.

That's fine, what I was pointing out with those two polls though was that PoP:SoT, despite moving from the Gamecube poll to the GotY poll and having about 6,000 less votes, still managed to increase in percentage. Hell, just for kicks, PoP:SoT went from getting 10.9% less in the Gamecube poll than MK:DD!! to getting seven votes more than MK:DD!! in the GotY poll. That's what I was finding so unusual, how PoP:SoT actually improved against much stronger competition (including the three strongest he already faced in the Gamecube poll).

Whether it was because of smaller vote totals (look how similar its vote totals were both times...3,134 and 3,157) or that Gamecube fans simply don't care about PoP much at all, you tell me, but it's worth a look.

In fact, characters like Mario, Link, and Mega Man can SFF people who have nothing to do with them, simply because they're so well known and so popular.

That's not SFF. SFF is when someone who likes character A is more likely than average to also like character B, or vice versa. In other words, a correlation between liking characters A and B.

What you're talking about has more to do with distribution. The x-stats assume every character has a uniform distribution, whereas in fact characters have different distributions. Pac Man probably has a lot of people who like him some, while Master Chief probably has a fair number of people who like him a lot and a number who don't like him at all. King Morgoth was doing some work in this area, but it's hard to figure out based on the data we have.

If CJayC's thought process was to have the villain contest in order to have a legitimate excuse to remove Sephiroth, then he may never really bother with any more spring contests. I somehow doubt he planned to continually have two contests a year like that.

Remove Sephiroth from the main bracket in the Summer Contest that should say. I think it's possible he could have come up with the idea of a Tournament of Champions quite a bit before Spring 2005 and decided to have a contest only to set up for the ToC in the summer.

That should clarify that better.

No way would I take Captain Falcon over Pac Man, especially not as a "lock pick".

I'd be very surprised if he broke the fodder line, I'm seeing him at around 15-16% range myself. Yeah, you heard me. 15-16%. I doubt he gets much of anything from F-Zero. (I had casually played F-Zero before Smash Bros and I still had no idea who CF was) Maybe a slight bit from F-Zero GX. And I don't think he's nearly as favored as Ness is by the SSB/M fans. Maybe I'm out of touch with the SSB/M fanbase though.

I completely agree that Falcons going to be a bomb. F-Zero will do literally nothing for him here. He's going to have to rely on SSB:M alone and even if he was equal with Ness(And I doubt he is, no matter what you guys say), Earthbound diehards will easily put Ness on top.

I called Ridley being a bomb and I called Kerrigan being a bomb. And I'll call this right now. Out of all the Nomination Rally winners, Falcon will be the weakest.

Why? Pointless debate makes the topic go around! I have a feeling this might be due to me... because it seems I always disagree with you. But then again I don't really post here that much. But really, why stop?

And by the way I called all of the aforementioned bombs and Terra and Jak if we're taking count here.

Though I didn't call Lloyd Irving, and I still had Kuja winning, so I guess I didn't really call him either. (though I had had him winning more out of his pack's weakness than his strength)

Eh, coming from a hardcore SSBM fan, and knowing most fans in general, I'd say that Ness is the favor when it comes to casualty. Sure, Falcon is higher up in the tier list; but I haven't seen too many people who'd like Falcon or Ness for anything.

The main difference I notice is that the screen is bigger on the second one, which is nice. I have no idea how those processors compare since I haven't read about mobile CPUs in a few years. You could probably find info on tomshardware.com or anandtech.com. Just based on the info you posted I'd probably go for the second one, although I don't really like laptops very much.

XD.

BOLD PREDICTION: We won't get a Spring Contest, but only because CJayC finally wises up and replaces it with a Winter Contest.

About a two weeks or so ago, I was creating a new account and some massive questionaire form came up on the page instead of the "activate account" page, and it was from Gamespot/GameFAQs asking all about stuff related to gaming and the site, and one of the questions was "If you could change anything about either site, what would you do?" I responded with a Summer/Winter rotation of GameFAQs site contests, instead of the Spring/Summer one. Now I'm not delusional enough to think that I'm the reason that there's not going to be a Spring contest (or so it seems), but it would indeed be awesome if it were to happen.

I called Viewtiful Joe being a bomb and I called Kuja being a bomb. And I'll call this right now. Out of all the Nomination Rally winners, Prince of Persia will be the weakest.

So did I sucka, but I actually had the stones to pick Master Hand too! And you know what? I don't call PoP being the weakest, so in your face HaRR, in your face.
