Maybe it'll be a 128 character or 128 game contest that takes the place of both contests. It would be pretty awesome if it was 64 games and 64 characters. And by awesome, I mean impossible to predict. --- MasterMage119/Adept of Aiur |

Maybe he'll pull something totally unexpected out, like best level. Elite 8: Spirit Temple vs. Armored Armadillo Norfair vs. Ice Cap Zone Sector X vs. Midgar Tron World vs. Rainbow Road Something like that; I just made that up off the top of my head. :P --- Currently Playing: Tetris DS, Metroid Prime Hunters WHAT ARE WE DOING TO PIGS? |

Doubt it. That would be way to inaccessible to predict, since you have
to know the levels to predict. With games and characters, it's more
likely that you'll know about them even if you haven't played the
game/a game with that character. --- MasterMage119/Adept of Aiur |

Ironically enough, I was thinking earlier today about how cool it would
be to see some polls about the best levels/areas of some games. The
polls would be about one game's levels instead of crossing though. --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? Go here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=585007 |

128 games would make an incredible Contest. 128 characters, eh... I'm
not sure how crazy I am about a field that's at least half fodder. I'm
sure it would be great, don't get me wrong, but if we're really going
to double the field size, I'd rather see us do games. So much easier to
stretch out, because franchise voting would keep even games not hugely
popular in their own right from falling into the fodder category. --- "lol x-stats" - The Contest Simulator: http://thengamer.com/xstats Ngamer's Contest Archives: http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/ |

Indeed. If it ever came to a 128 entry contest, it had better be with
games. That is one of the very few instances where I could see that
working. --- "This is my story -- and you're not apart of it." -- Auron |
HaRRicH | Posted 4/2/2006 8:59:47 PM | message detail |
I totally agree that games would be the way to go... ...but would a character contest have AS much fodder as it sounds like? I think once you get past the sixty-four who make it, yes, you'll get many more of the weakers characters and the rallied-for characters that would hardly impress. At the same time though, I would think we would have many many various FF characters -- specifically, playable characters -- that wouldn't embarrass themselves. There could also be room for several fighting characters from strong series that could make it on top of that (I would think that a NIT-bracket would see some fighters like Yoshimitsu, Akuma, and some others do nice). Again though, 128 games >>>>> 128 characters. --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? Go here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=585007 |

128 games would be pretty awesome. I can't imagine Ceej holding a 4
month contest though. Also, 4 months would be pretty damn long
(especially the 2 month first round). Maybe if he held 2 matches a day
in the first round it would be better... --- Nominate Aeris for SC2k6 http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=26571751 |

I do NOT want to see two matches a day -- then again though, I get
pissed when there's just a bonus poll alongside the matches. Even if
you did two matches a day though, I believe that would still have 95
days of matches, 32 having two matches a day. I cannot foresee CJay
going through with that unless no pics were allowed in the first
round... ...which, by the way, is something I would like to see one day. --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? Go here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=585007 |

128 games would be sick, and you could easily do it too. I could pick
at least 64 games that were "above the fodder line", and I'm sure a
whole bunch more would break 20% as well. the only downside is that it would take four months. --- xyzzy |

Before I go to bed, I'm just re-reading some of my thoughts I made last
summer during some of the matches...funny stuff. Luckily for some of my
comments, all of this was typed about two days after I made my bracket: Lloyd will be undoubtedly be stronger than Mithos. Next. 68-32, Lloyd [against Wesker] 5-Zelda > 4-Vivi The first almost-definite close match [...] 50.5-49.5, Zelda 2-Sora > 7-Agent 47 Sora's clown-shoes > Hitman games. Agent 47's gonna be KILLED. 88-12, Sora 80-20, Master Chief [against CATS] 52-48, Dante [against Terra] 3-Magus > 6-Knuckles Magus > Ganon >or= Solid > Knuckles x3 62-38, Magus 51-49, Luigi [against KOS-MOS] 2-Revolver > 7-Pac-Man Revolver beat Nemesis and Wily, both of which I think are stronger than Pac. Revolver also got closer to Bowser than Pac did to Luigi. 59-41, Revolver 50.5-49.5, Ganon [against Auron] 51.5-48.5, Magus [against Squall] 1-Solid > 2-Sora Solid continues to fight for his life as Sora's next in line; unadjusted stats have Solid gettin' 51.39% against Sora in 2k4. MGS3 should keep Solid afloat here, though Sora has since had KH:CoM on GBA and may earn the board's support since he impressed last year. 51.5-48.5, Solid 3-Magus > 5-Vincent If there's a match I get wrong that will win with 52% or more, this is it [...] 51-49, Magus 1-Samus > 1-Mario [...] Mario has potential to get some rSFF, but it's unlikely...should he get it though, it's even more unlikely to get enough for the win. 55-45, Samus 51-49, Solid [against TIDUS] C-Cloud > C-Sephiroth See 2k3 and 2k4. 59-41, Cloud --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? Kingdom Hearts has a dreaded day vote? The only matches I remember
KH/Sora/Riku making big strides during the day are against StarCraft,
Alucard, and Frog, and all three of those have absolutely terrible day
votes. --- "Men who are diametrically opposed to me die. The explanation is quite simple, these men are mad, and it is the mad who die." ~ Metternich |

1) I believe Sora got the day-vote against Hayabusa, as well as knowing
KH took the day-vote from Soul Calibur. I wish I knew how Sora did
against Aeris in 2k3 though..... 2) http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2316 KH2 made huge strides in that poll too...though, again, it was against two FF games (the series have never been known for their day-vote). Furthermore, Square in general is known for not having good day-votes...so this poll could be looked at -- when coupled with the other polls -- like this: the KH series is almost-certainly the best attraction for the day-vote that Square has. Furthermore, KH seems to have a decent day-vote against anything outside of Square...at least normal, and I would think a little above the norm. I'd like to see a Sora VS Knuckles/Riku VS MC match though, to push them and see what kind of day-vote KH really brings. --- Miss my Four-Pack Of Fun? it was against two FF games (the series have never been known for their day-vote). Final Fantasy VII has a pretty beastly day vote, actually. Ask Bowser and Ganondorf about that one. Also, Kingdom Hearts does have a pretty good day vote. Sora gained pretty much non-stop against Hayabusa and the "dreaded" XBox day vote. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Ramza, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

he gained vs. Alucard, too. remember how Alucard was hanging 50/50 with him for the first hour or so before Sora took off? it's easy to assume that KH gets a day vote because it's "kiddie", but it's no slouch either. --- xyzzy |

Well, RPGuy already mentioned that he got it against Alucard, but he
has a very poor day vote due to being so niche. He lost it against
Kratos, and Ganondorf gained a good bit on him as well, if I recall. --- SC2K6 Nominations: Squall, Ramza, Serge, Seifer, Laguna, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden |

128 games could totally rizzawk. 128 characters would suck. 128 entrants, 64 from each would be totally badass. Squall vs. Final Fantasy 8. Who ya got? It would be completely unpredictable and absolutely insane. I would never expect it to happen, but it would be an amazing contest. I'm still very hopeful of a Spring Contest, but if not, I don't expect the Summer contest announcement to come much later than May 1st. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |

I'd take Squall, I believe. He's probably the only main character of a

1%. Everything else is mostly the same. --- "Men who are diametrically opposed to me die. The explanation is quite simple, these men are mad, and it is the mad who die." ~ Metternich |

I'd take Squall, I believe. He's probably the only main character of
a Final Fantasy I'd take over his game (unless you want to count FFX-2). Which is why I chose him. Normally you'd never see main character > game, unless it's something like Link or Mario where they appear in a number of games, and draw their popularity from numerous games. But with FF8 there's so much goddamn hate. Is it the game, Squall, both? Which one more? I'd probably take Squall too, but I'd be nervous. --- Explicit Content Cheer Up Emo Kids |

Speaking of which, remember that lol x-stats has been configured to
calculate Games v Characters matchups with 100% accuracy! And so to
answer your question, Mario (2005c) VS Mario 3 (2004g) Mario has a strength of 43.20. Mario 3 has a strength of 43.89. Mario 3 wins with 50.79% of the vote! A win of 1,387 with 88,221 total votes cast. And yeah, with the idea of KH having a killer Day Vote, I was mostly thinking about its nice comeback against FF12 in that Upcoming Games poll last month. --- "lol x-stats" - The Contest Simulator: http://thengamer.com/xstats Ngamer's Contest Archives: http://thengamer.com/gamefaqs/ |

Aside from the fact that games vs. characters is just silly, I think
people are also failing to take SFF into account. Extrapolation would
work even less than in a normal SFF match when you're talking about a
game vs. its main character. Sometimes the character makes the game and
sometimes vice-versa. --- Nominate Aeris for SC2k6 http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=26571751 |
