If Aeris makes it, I can't see Red XIII or Cid Highwind getting in as well, so I hope not. On an unrelated note, may I make the next topic? The Aeris rally topic has 40 signups so far... which is a lot better
than nothing, but doesn't make me feel real confident. My biggest worry
is that she won't get in due to having four other FFVII characters with

Why not? I've never really seen the issue with having lots of
Nintendo/Square/FFVII characters. If it makes the contest more
interesting, nothing else really matters. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

Yeah, I suppose it wouldn't be TOO bad in that case. I just don't want
more than a quarter of the Sweet Sixteen to be FFVII characters. Thing is, between KH, KH2, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Ergheiz,
etc., it's basically become a franchise. Having five FF VII characters
isn't quite the same as having five characters from a single game... at

Does anybody think Kingdom Hearts will send someone in the contest
other than Sora or Riku? I've heard Roxas & Axel's names being
thrown around, but I figure that was just the rush of a new game
talking. And on that note, I only got a small taste of KH2 thanks to a 2-day rental (I only got about 9 hours in), but man I've enjoyed it thus far. I can see why people hype this series so much. I may shell out the money to buy it by the end of the week. As far as FF7 characters go, the only interesting thing left that can come from the game IMO is seeing what one of its NPCs can do. As far as main characters go, the five we've seen thus far is enough. --- HAVE YOU SEEN ME: Morrigan, Aya Brea, Strider Hiryu, Claire Redfield -- Missing since 2002. Help them return this summer! |

As far as FF7 characters go, the only interesting thing left that

I was typing something up about how I'm going to be afraid of Sora this
year, because I think KHII Sora appeals to the FF crowd a lot more than
KH Sora did, because his image changes in sort of the same way as
Squall's did between FFVIII and kH, when a thought occurred. Sora got
his head handed to him by Snake. We've discussed the possibility of
that being SFF, as well as Sephiroth/Liquid Snake and Final Fantasy
VII/Metal Gear Solid. So who did Snake face in the year before the original Kingdom Hearts? In the first round, he beat the crap out of Squall, getting 65.43%. Snake happened to get 65.26% against Sora last year. Who else did Snake face? Aerith, whom he beat with 56.54%. Why does this mean anything? Who were the big beneficiaries of the KHF? Cloud, Squall, Sephiroth, Aeris, and Tidus. Tidus was a fake, hiding behind something weird in Link/Magus. Cloud's match with Mario caused much consternation, and we know he didn't benefit as much as we originally thought. And if Snake can SFF Square characters (and the reverse is true), that would underwrite both Squall and Aerith's gains. The odd man out is Sephiroth, who, if anything, trends the other way. Typical. My point is that I'm not so sure I would expect the minor Square characters in KHII to exhibit huge gains, because the KH characters might not have. I personally think Squall's gain was still worth boasting about, but
then again, I'm one of the few who thinks that his 2005 value is where
he's been all along. Aeris's gain was modest even if Snake DID SFF her.

In my opinion, Sora could possibly defeat anyone who's not Noble Nine
or a strong Final Fantasy character (Squall, Aeris, Tifa, Vincent). If
anything, I could see him nabbing 45% or better on Bowser or Ganondorf. Would anyone take him over some of the mid-range FF characters like Tidus? I'd have a hard time taking Sora over someone that doubled him (Aeris).
I'd take Squall, Auron and anything from FF7 over him. I'd take Sora
over Tidus, Magus and all the other Square midcarders. --- xyzzy |

| Going off the 2k5 X-Stats I'd put Sora around Knuckes/Dante in strength. I'd take him over both of them and maybe Kirby as well. |

going from Knuckles/Dante to Kirby is a pretty significant jump,
especially if something weird happened with Vincent. I suppose you
could say the same thing about Bowser as well, but I'm pretty sure most
people here would take Kirby over Knuckles and Dante. well, 'cept for Lopen and EC. --- xyzzy |

well, Kirby had no problem dropping 59% on Tidus, and I'd at least stop
to think about Tidus vs. Sora. I have no problem taking Kirby over

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2335 That makes me very unsure of Sora's strength. He should be a lot stronger, because KHII makes him into a much more typical Square hero - less Disneyish, if you get my meaning. That's something I remember therealmnm talking about ages ago, and it makes sense. But, from that poll, I'm not sure enough of the site has played the game to make a huge of a difference in his favor. Maybe that'll change by summer, as the poll was only a week after the game was released, but most sales for a game happen initially and we'll probably have no way to tell anyway. So I'd probably play it conservatively, taking the big FF (those that you mentioned, plus Auron and Magus) and the big Nintendo names (Gdorf, Bowser, Kirby, and Luigi, out of bias). That leaves Tidus, Zero, Zelda, Dante, Ryu, and Knuckles. I'd probably take Sora over the last three, and the first three I wouldn't have a lot of confidence either way (Tidus because of SFF, Zelda and Zero for strength). --- "Men who are diametrically opposed to me die. meh, 58, 59%, same thing! (this is what I get for going off of memory and not looking at numbers.) Zero vs. Sora... I think 'monica made a fourpack over on Harrich's board recently and I took Sora. I am not sure about this match though. I take Sora over Ryu, Dante and Knuckles though. --- xyzzy |

Eh, even the top 10 games list had a good chunk of the voting
population under the "I've never even played it" and "I don't own it"
demographics. I wouldn't take that poll for much right now, especially

I'm thinking Sora will be the next Magus/Master Chief. The board is
hyping him up to be a monster, but I just don't see him being that

I just have a feeling that, for as much as we're wondering where Sora's
gonna end up, he's going to end up with a fairly predictable path in
