From the last topic ... my question: for those of you who are playing KH2, which characters have significant roles? and which have the most "potential" to boost? While I am not exceptionally far, as my gaming switches between a replay of FFX and KH2, the biggest roles in the game from Square characters are from Cloud and Leon (Squall) -- Cloud even has an extra side story dedicated to him, though it does not effect the main storyline. Those two, above all else, have the biggest roles of the Final Fantasy characters. Next up would be Sephiroth and Auron, I would imagine. Auron's role may be small in that it is only in one section of the game -- from what I know -- but that role has him joining your party for a few fights. You get to fight alongside of him and he apparently is exceptionally badass (Surprise, surprise!) with his limit and overall usefulness in the battle. I think he could get a very nice sized boost due to the fact that he was not already exposed through Kingdom Hearts and his role is cool enough to warrant him some points. I would likely say that the biggest boosts from Square characters directly from the game, and not just apart of an influx of Square voters, would be Cloud, Squall, Sephiroth, and Auron. I would expect boosts of characters like Vivi and Tifa, too, just not necessarily equal to the others mentioned. --- "Outside the dream world, life can be harsh -- even cruel, but it is life." -- Auron |

hmm. those are characters that already have significant strength - they
don't have much to gain, in other words. clearly they'll be stronger,
but they aren't going to go through the roof like a weaker character
potentially could. if someone like Zidane had a significant role in the
game, he would boost more because of how weak his starting point is. that said, I fear the unpredictability of characters like Auron. Auron vs. Ganon probably still goes to Ganon, but I'm definitely not 100% sure. --- xyzzy |

*MINOR KHII SPOILERS* So far, out of all the FF characters I've seen, Auron has made the biggest impression, for all the reasons HM stated and more. Its complete unavoidability and prominence don't hurt, either. Expect something of a boost out of him. No other character has had a standout role so far, except perhaps Squall. I really do not think you are going to find an already existing
character who is weaker, has a big role in KH2, and will see a
significant jump in strength. The only way I could see that happening
is if there was someone who was altogether knew to the contest, such as
Seifer, and goes on to exceed expectations by massive amounts. Without Twilight Princess to help Ganon, I would be willing to say that with KH2 and just an overall influx of Square voters as a whole, he can make up enough to beat Ganon. lesser character was in Auron's shoes. their contest strength could be

Auron vs. Squall Squall, according to the current stats, gets 56.08% against Auron before Kingdom Hearts II. I do believe that Auron will be getting a bigger boost than Squall from KHII, but he also has plenty of catchup to do. Any boost Squall would get from KHII only makes that gap harder to overcome. I am really rather torn on how SFF in such a match might go. Squall is a lead, but Auron is just universally liked. I would love for Auron to win that match, but in all likelihood Squall would win. I would also probably take Squall in my bracket, too. Squall (Auron) v. Bowser (Kirby, Zelda) The biggest deal of these matchups is probably Squall and Bowser. Even before any sort of boosts, Squall and Bowser are really close in the stats with the slight nudge to Bowser -- so close that even using them is rather pointless. I think with Kingdom Hearts II and expected Square influx should be enough to put Squall over Bowser, who will also have New Super Mario Bros. I think that will do little for him in comparison to what it would do for Mario and Luigi. I would take Squall and Auron over both Kirby and Zelda, though. I would be rather confident in those choices, too. That would be different if Zelda had Twilight Princess, but with that out of the picture I feel pretty confident with both of them being able to beat her and the pink puffball. --- "Outside the dream world, life can be harsh -- even cruel, but it is life." -- Auron |

Yeah, they are in there. Bowser Jr. is in there, too, but only has a
recurring boss -- think along the lines of Boom Boom in SMB3. Some other nice tidbits you might have missed include 8 worlds, 80 levels, a SMB3-esque world map, multiple exits in levels like SMW, and ... I think that covers the more recent information. Just dont expect KH 2 to give the same boost as KH. Its appearing very
late in the console cycle which will decrease sales and its not going
to bring that new audience to Square characters as the first will. There will be a boost, but I dont want people throwing out ideas like Sora beating Sonic and Sephiroth beating Link. --- Where am I? |

I don't think anyone is expecting an increase the size of the first
one, but just because people played the original and buy the sequel
doesn't mean there won't be an increase. If that's the case, we might
as well say that Link isn't going to get anything from Twilight
Princess because it's going to be mostly fans of the series buying the
game. Same for New Super Mario Bros. Come on, guys. You know better

Sora will probably get the biggest boost, although people will probably
exaggerate it seeing the way he bombed against Snake. He's bound for a
rebound from that regardless of KH2. As for everyone else, I don't think we will be nearly seeing the boost that everyone else is expecting. With Kingdom Hearts, Cloud, Squall and co had been missing in action since their respective games. I don't think we are going to be seeing dramatic boosts this year... especially not stuff like Auron coming back and beating Ganon in a rematch and stuff. KH2 is simply not as big an event as far as "OMG, Cloud's in the game! Sephiroth! Squall!" You can already sense that the effect isn't nearly as big. At least from what I've seen, Cloud, Squall, Auron, and Sephiroth are
all going to be getting some "Whoa! Awesome!" scenes in Kingdom Hearts

Oh, I didn't say that they wouldn't have awesome scenes. Cloud, Squall,
and Auron kicking ass is pretty much expected out of them. It's why
they're popular! I'm just saying that the novelty of them being in the
game won't be nearly as big as it was for KH. I don't think the "boost"

Plus, I think being able to fight them as well was a big selling point.
As long as they keep that (redo Cloud and Squall for sure), it'll be

I restate: KH2 itself doesn't worry me so much...nor it even having
FF:AC released here soon after. It's that a THIRD big Square release in
DoC will be mixed with it before the contest starts, not to mention DoC
is probably the last big release by the industry before the contest

So, would anyone take Squall over Snake if they had a rematch this year? That would be an epic turnaround if he pulled it off. Second question: did Snake SFF Squall at all in 2002?
