Sub-Zero (We know he's just as strong as Scorps, if not above him. Still, I don't think the two would be too far from each other)

Sub-Zero (Guaranteed to be of equal strength of Scorp, if not better, which I doubt, but that's not the point.)

Raiden (I really don't see how he can completely bomb when Snake was capable of pulling so much just from MGS, and he is basically the main character of MGS2)

Prince of Persia (Don't see him being lower than Kratos, but if he is, not by much at all, and that's with Kratos being underrated)

Captain Falcon (Will draw exclusively from SSB/M his character is pretty non-apparent in F-Zero, aside from GX, but even then it's pretty sad. Best. Voice Acting. Ever?)

Nightmare (GameFAQs just doesn't seem to be into fighting characters not from SFII, sure Soul Calibur performed decently in the Spring contest, but as it's been shown many times game =/= character, and I have a feeling this is one of the times it could be true.)

Mega Man > Mario by the common opponent of Yoshi is very realistic, actually. Considering how Bowser did against Mario and that Bowser beat Yoshi, hey, it's hard to ignore. Yoshi's not SFF-proof either -- we saw both Mega Man and Link get some action on SFF'ing Yoshi in the past. This poll is the only thing that stands in the way of it, actually, which could be enough...but still, very possible.

I can't believe people are trying to find any more of a concrete reason for Mario going up in this poll other than the fact that he just doesn't get anti-voted like he used to. Remember Mario/Servbot?

Oh, and Nightmare is the most likely to bomb, followed by Raiden, followed by the Prince. Subby and Falcon are almost assured of going over the fodder line.

The concept of anti-voting doesn't really apply in an 8-way poll. Getting less hate may mean Mario gains some votes when he's up against one opponent, but there's a big difference between being not hated and being someone's favorite out of 8 characters.

What Kaxon said. I was thinking along those lines but it really doesn't make sense. Anti-votes fading don't really mean an improvement, since there are still other characters to receive most of those votes. For Mario to gain, anti-voters would have to 180 and say that Mario has become their favorite. Not likely...

As for character most likely to bomb, it's about time people are admitting that Nightmare definitely has the biggest chance. Anytime you are trying to figure out who the best representative for a series is, it usually doesn't fare well. Soul Calibur is definitely more liked for it's gameplay than it's characters. None of it's characters really stand out enough for them to be above your typical midcarder. Tommy Vercetti would probably be Nightmare's ceiling. I don't see him being able to beat anybody above him in the 2k5 stats.

I do agree that the general anti-Mario sentiment has faded from this site though. Probably the cause of my underestimation of him in 2k5. Mario pretty much had a target on his ass throughout all of 2k2 and 2k3, and it boiled over with his 2k4 whipping by Crono. After that match, it seems like the anti-Mario spirits have been released.

Seeing Soul Calibur get #51 and go toe-to-toe with KH (no matter where it's at in the stats) gives me some faith in Nightmare, then SC2 is one of the biggest fighters in a long time and is most likely more popular than the original. I know SC3 is now out, too, though I don't know how well it was recieved or how it sold. I know Nightmare was in all of them though and seems to be well-liked by the fanbase, so -- even if he's not the Ryu of his series -- he should be amongst the Ken's, Chun-Li's, and M. Bison's of it. I don't fret about him bombing, though he's not gonna be an all-star by any means.

Here's some fun, by the way: SF2 was the only SF game on the Top 100 List and drop-down box, and it placed #47. SC1 was the only SC game on the Top 100 List and drop-down box, and it placed #51. How much better could SC2 have done? Same goes for Mortal Kombat (#58) -- how much better could MK2 have done?

I ain't got space to nominate Cid, and I wouldn't really anyway if I did. I'm not a big fan. I've just always been one of the people who thought Cid would be more popular than Red XIII, though taking a favorites poll at face value is dangerous.

Also, Sabin was second in the favorite FFVI poll? Rather surprising.

It's very difficult to say where Yoshi is based on Ocelot because he SFF'd Pac-Man. Based on Laharl, he had a meager gain (a little below Tidus).

If we keep him in the same proportion to Luigi in 2004, Yoshi stands at a little below 2005 Kirby, meaning he'd do MUCH better against Bowser in a rematch (or that Bowser SFF'd him, one of the two). If we keep him at the same proportion to Bowser in 2003, he's almost exactly equal to Magus, which is about half a percent above Luigi.
