Fact or Fiction: Yoshi would do better against Mario than Bowser did.

I wonder how many people made feedback tickets asking for this poll. I know HaRRicH and I did. And LOL at Yoshi winning again.

Another LOL goes out to people who actually think Peach has no fanbase. These ignorants need to cash in the respect points they think they're earning from bashing Peach for a ****ing clue.

I would say fact. Bowser didn't even got 30% on Mario. At least 4% of those who voted for any other Mario character has to like Yoshi more than Mario.

It could be an interesting SFF match.

Still, I must laugh at Peach for not being very far ahead of him.

And people still start with their Peach bashing. Again, how many people do you know that would list Peach as their favorite Mario character? Not many, besides probably a few original Mario Kart heads... I don't think she'd have a problem beating Toad at all.

Fiction. 30% against Mario in a SFF match is actually pretty respectable. Seeing how Yoshi barely broke 30% against Mega Man, and how bad Link made him look, I don't see him coming close to beating Bowser's score.

Who said I was bashing Peach? I just find it humorous that she's still down low on the totem pole, only a few hundred votes ahead of Waluigi, of all people. I honestly have nothing against her, but if it weren't for the Mario RPGs, I'd have no reason to care about her, really.

I stand by my original statement of Toad/Peach being a toss-up.

To note -- which I pointed out in my feedback ticket -- five of these characters have had their own games since the last poll (August of 2001). Five of them have been in SSBM since then too. The two that didn't get either advantage -- Toad and Waluigi -- are suffering from it (dropping 2.14% and 1.03%, respectively).

Also, Mario got the biggest jump, by far...and I'm looking for a cause for this. Sure, we could list off every game he's been in since the Gamecube came out, but he had his biggest contest-jump between 2k4 and 2k5, so let's look at that for a minute. What came out in that period of time? SM64DS...

...would anybody be willing to put THAT kind of credit into SM64DS, to make Mario that much bigger of a favorite?

Compared to being able to play the same game with the likes of Luigi, Yoshi, and Wario? Not in the least. Heck, you start the game as Yoshi...

The answer: Super Mario Sunshine.

No boost from the Wind Waker is debatable. It solves the WDF if he did and just states that Mario got SFF'd, which is quite believable. There's really no way to know what kind of impact SMS had in the middle of the contest, especially since nobody that Mario faced before then has seen the light of day since, except for DK who he brutally SFF'd.

Either way, I'm not buying Mario 64 DS doing it. I always thought part of the appeal of it was being able to play as somebody besides Mario.

Being a Mario game on the DS is an appeal in and of itself, but I just kinda figured being able to play as somebody else was a big selling point. I wouldn't have bought it as a straight up port myself.

It was still more than a gaming generation after SM64 though, and it was supposed to have alot more stars too. Extra characters is icing on the cake for me, though I won't say that's the case for everybody.

Yeah, but so did everything Nintendo, including DK, so I don't think you can peg it solely on SM64DS. As for having Luigi > Tifa, that was like me having Dante > Vincent, except more off the wall. I expected Dante to boost to 30%, which he just about did, while others disregarded that, so I had Dante pegged pretty much head on, I just underestimated Vincent. (Just not as much as you. =P)

Well, let's look at it like this: Mario and Luigi jumped in 2k5...but Yoshi -- who you start off with -- didn't move based off of Laharl and Pac-Man. I think Wario is the fourth playable character, right? If so, we got no reading of him after 2k3 where he was behind Mario/Shadow...but as far as the Mario polls go, he's dropped nearly 2%.

Hmmm.....

Well, unless you believe that Squall's 2005 value was his true self, in which case Luigi and Kirby's gains aren't as huge.

Well, based on a constant Laharl, Yoshi DID gain about 2%, which is rather small compared to everyone else though.

I won't even begin to comment on Pac-Man since we haven't had a good reading on him since the first contest. It was an SFF match anyway.

I don't personally... he has a very similar type of character to Vincent, meaning he appeals to the same general people, and well we all know FF7 > everything. I don't think he suffered great amounts, but a decently sized amount.
