Very strong bracket overall, only thing I disagree with are some of the odd seedings, and a bit too much SFF for my taste. I understand how hard it must be to avoid, with there being so many Nintendo titles to represent, but seeing a game with huge potential like Star Fox 64 going out because of an SNES game with a big fanbase would make me quite sad.

Such an odd situation here on GameFAQs... that bracket could easily come down to an Elite Eight of FF7 and 7 Nintendo titles, but even so, not one of those 7 would have a realistic shot at taking it down.

You can have great potential-SFF matches though -- Vincent/Squall worked out nicely, afterall. Bowser/Ganon would be another, and I bet a rematch of Yoshi/Luigi is a bigger toss-up than many want to admit.

The other thing is, Melee has such great potential in my eyes, I'd hate to see it get SFFed by OoT. What if we were to swap it with a game that has less potential for growth, like maybe FF6. That would make for a heck of an interesting bottom grouping there... Mario 3 (or World)/ Melee (or Majora)/LttP/CT.

And I like SC's path enough, as the battle with SSB should be cool, but feels a little anti-climactic for us to know it's run can't extend beyond Melee, realisticly. How about if we replaced H2 with Halo in that second division, and then pushed StarCraft in as the two seed? Now there's a rematch that's still up in the air, and it would be even cooler because both games would have to earn it.

I would love to see SMB3/SSBM. It'd be pretty close, I doubt you'd see SFF, you would have plenty of people picking both sides, you would see a sweet after-school comeback for SSBM (it would probably be behind at that time in a real match), AND it's between two top dogs in the contest.

Radical Nightmare

A female contest could be decent, if done right. We know the high-tier matches we'd like to see, then throw in a bunch of newcomers against one-another and underseed a newcomer or two that many would think could have decent power...obviously not a perfect contest, but it could still be worth watching and -- with some effort -- could be a good deal better than the Villian Contest was.

I for one would actually like to see how Lara Croft would do nowadays IF we have a Female Contest...let her face some cult-fan-favorite here (would Sheena fit this?) and see what happens.

Well, it's not that I wouldn't enjoy a contest at all, but I'm starting to think of contests as a limited resource that should be mined carefully. If we had a female character contest, it probably would be fun, just less fun than a regular character battle. The problem is that almost any interesting match in the female contest would be directly taking away a potential interesting match from the main contest. Plus it would give us other information that would make the next character battle just a little bit more predictable. I'd rather just wait and have as good of a character battle as possible. On the other hand, if we had a spring contest that wouldn't make the next big character or game contest less interesting, I'd like that. Although I doubt Ceej would do it, I'd really like doing something unrelated to games, like a best movie contest.

at 4 hours in, here are the differences:

Bowser -1.42%
Luigi -1.15%
Mario 8.21%
Peach -0.41%
Toad -2.57%
Waluigi -1.12%
Wario -0.95%
Yoshi -0.60%

wow. i am impressed that the results are so similar after 5 years between polls. the only ones that really changed are Mario (who is WAY more popular) and Toad (who is getting lamer and lamer). otherwise, a 1 or 1.5% fluctuation doesn't seem like much. it still amuses me how Yoshi can have so many hardcore fans, yet still couldn't beat Bowser.

Please have another poll with the same question and most -- if not all -- of the choices. The poll was last seen on 08/27/2001 (exactly 4 1/2 years ago), and both the results and vote totals would surely change if it was ever redone. It is also perhaps THE most controversial poll that contest stat-fans have, and it would make for great fanservice for us if we saw this poll get a second chance. Besides, five of those eight have had a self-titled game since that poll, not to mention the release of the Gamecube and Super Smash Brothers Melee. It would definitely be worth doing again, "as the answers do change over time."


Granted, it's still open, heh...but, ya know, I almost wanna take credit anyways. =P

Man, Mario has really jumped up, and I'm still rather impressed that Yoshi is still winning. Strangely enough, that would mean that only 20% of those who didn't vote for him as a favorite prefer him over Bowser...I dunno, maybe it seems that Yoshi has a lot of people who love him, and then plenty who don't seem to care much about him. Bowser may not be a favorite of most of the fans, but he's apparently at least high up on the list.

Hopefully, this means more favorite polls to come.

I'd vote Toad over Peach purely because he was my favorite Super Mario Kart character >_>

And Peach, well, doesn't do anything really. Toad in SMRPG was better than Peach in SMRPG and he wasn't even a playable character there!
