i'm sure as time passes the balance of power will shift.
megaman is dropping, snake will drop once their are no more MG games,in ten years FFVII characters will only be a shadow of their former glory,Samus will also drop and over the next 10-15 years new characters will become ungodly powerfull and make crono look like fodder.i mean nothing lasts forever right?

I don't think Prince would even beat Kratos, let alone Diablo. He's overrated to hell.

I was thinking about Kratos as well. I just can't see Kratos being any where close to the Prince. I mean, the Prince is an icon (not just from this gen). Seriously, who doesn't know the Prince?

The biggest issue with a noNN bracket is the fact that Noble Nine is only a term on this board. To the rest of GameFAQs, removing five of those nine characters will seem completely random.

I thought that as well, but if Ceej explained the situation on the front page, it'd make a little more sense.

I love that Gauntlet idea, N. Those last rounds would be incredible. Only problem is no Mario/Sonic! Unless Sonic pulls off something incredible and beats Megaman, Samus and Crono. (Big boost from the new next-gen game, maybe. Yeah,t hat's going to happen. >_>)

Otherwise, excellent plan. But will new people get the idea of the gauntlet? Will they know about the character strength? hmmm.

Yeah, but apparently the "cool", masculine action hero seems to appeal to the public (cf Kratos). Seriously, imagine for a sec Kratos had never been in a contest. Would you take him over PoP? I think the PoP can surprise people in a fashion similar to Kratos (he surprised me, at least).

Was that directed to me? As in who doesn't know Hayabusa? Now why would anyone say that? I know I didn't know Hayabusa before (and for a surprisingly long time, during) the first contest he was in.

But we get the Snake matchup in a noNN bracket! There are two, three people who could possibly beat him, and using the Gauntlet, we're guaranteed to see the best of them have their shot. The difference is, we don't have to sit through Snake wasting 4 perfectly good, perfectly inferior opponents on the way to that single interesting matchup.

In that case, why not just do a gauntlet all the way? You could say the same thing for Vincent, Ganondorf, etc., all the way down the line. In my opinion you can't justify having a regular bracket and taking someone out of it unless they're guaranteed to beat the rest of the competition. I believe that could be said of the rest of the noble nine, but not Snake.

Also, I have to mention that part of why I dislike the guantlet idea is that it would make running the Oracle Challenge a nightmare, if not impossible. The TOC was already bad enough in that department.

Give Pac-Man to Zelda, move Laguna to Peach.

I really liked the Pac-Man/Peach match. It was one of my favorite matches in that entire bracket.

No worries. We all know who'd win (But I have a feeling Sonic may get some sort of rSFF on Mario to break 45-46%. *shrugs* Hunch), but the picture + awesomeness possibilities of that match are beyond comprehension.

But to argue srsly, his strength just draws from a larger array of games, much like Link does, granted he's not even close to Link in strength, but it's the same principle. Cloud only has one game to draw from, and thusly falls short of Link (for the most part), now at the same time, FF7 would beat any Zelda in a head to head match-up. And GoW would probably take out any single PoP game as well, as for the characters themselves, PoP just has more games to draw from... plus a movie if it ever comes out.

SNAKE SFF'D SORA.

Was that a joke? Or was that like, a personal shot? Oh aww, I'm hurt. Mummy this guy is attempting to "mock" me. Let's hear your explanation for the match "sexplicit con" (you are so funny!!).

Anyway, Sephiroth-Liquid SFF is pretty much accepted, but FF --> KH is one step too far for mister witty.

Why do you bring it up anyway? Can't bring up any arguments of your own? Can't say anything related to the argument? Perhaps you're not quite witty enough. Or did you want to make another one of your fantastic jokes and gain the admiration and respect of your online buddies?

You're such a cool human being to attempt mockery during an argument over the internet. You must have gained self-respect and self-admiration from that well-thought out and relevant comment.

Thanks for creating a surplus value for the gameFAQs message boards and particularly board 8. I appreciate your contribution to the conversation.

yeah, I would; GOW > POP games. it's just that simple.

Yeah, but 1 game < a bazillion. Besides, I don't think GoW sold really well, did it? Just from this gen, PoP games must've sold at least 3 times as much across platforms.

And it's not that PoP games are bad or anything.

and for proof, GOW is still #22 on the top faqs list. didn't POP have a game out after GOW? I don't see it in the top 50.

That's a valid point, but I'm not sure how that would transfer to contest strength(I believe SA was #1, #2 and #3 during the CJ-Ness match).

This is a bit off the current subject, but I want to point out something about the 2003 xstats that doesn't really matter in the long run.

So 2002 Link = 2003 Link, despite Wind Waker, the biggest Zelda release since Ocarina, coming out? Think about it this way.

Sephiroth and Mega Man had a close match in 2002. In 2003 Sephiroth beat the hell out of Mega Man. If Link stayed static, Sephiroth probably would have beaten him as well. Cloud also increased more than anyone thanks to Kingdom Hearts. Let's take a look at the rest of the NN:

Sonic - 2003 was his worst year, but I think he stayed the same strength. Cloud just boosted all over the place.
Mega Man - He had no major releases, thus he couldn't keep up with Sephiroth's KH boost.
Snake - He had MGS2:S released in between the two contests and boosted a little bit, but not enough to make a difference with a constant Mega Man.
Mario - He already boosted from SMS, and with no other major releases around, he ended up being constant against a boosted Sephiroth.
Crono - Nothing to say here, and you know why.
Samus - Thanks to Metroid Prime, Samus likely boosted a lot, but I think she suffered enough SFF against Link to make her look like she stayed constant.

So Base Link is flawed. To me, anyway.

Sonic beating Mario would be the greatest thing to ever happen in a contest, and I can't help thinking there's a chance... but in reality Mario'd probably beat him 60-40 like he did to Samus.

What does that have to do with anything? What your point, really? Yes, you're right. It's better to be in only 1 game than in a bazillion :s

I never said this went for everything, but it is a solid argument for PoP.
