My exact feelings about the Paper Mario games! Snore fests! For as clever and witty as the Paper Mario are supposed to be, they still have a knack for literally making me fall asleep!

I'm not going to laugh at you or anything, since I don't play for the clever and the witty. It's just an extra. When the game's BASED on the clever and the witty and I don't like it, though (i.e. Earthbound)... yeah.

I have to amend one of my previous unpopular opinions and say Stone Tower owns copious amounts of ass. If the entire game was as good, I'd kiss MM's ass in a way that'd make me sound like I hate Metroid Prime 2.

Here are some of my non-cookie-cutter opinions:

- Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever.

- Symphony of the Night is the best Castlevania, though Aria comes close.

- SMB3 will forever be the best Mario. Mario 64 was good but not in the same way, and SMW can't compare.

- DKC2 was the best of the Donkey Kong games.

- A Link to the Past was the best Zelda game by far; Ocarina of Time is a distant second.

- The first MGS game was the best, though 2 and 3 both owned the TTS remake.

yay for people who aren't afraid to have cookie cutter opinions! seriously, some people on here seem to have unpopular opinions just to be different. I might not think FF7 is the best game ever, but people like it for a reason.

those people are awesome. it's people like Kyle Bowen or Alanna that seem to take an opinion because it's unpopular and then argue it until everyone's tired of hearing about it that bug me.

I see no reason to try and convince someone of my opinions regarding taste. it's pretty pointless and isn't gonna work. (exception: Zero Mission and Super Metroid, but they're my two favourite games anyway)

Eh, my opinions have at least some grounding here, but even most 'cookie-cutter' opinions here are pretty off the wall when getting off this site. You know how many people constantly have the latest installment of GTA as their favorite game? Yes, you do, I was speaking rhetorically.

I fully agree with that. I thought you were accusing those of us with a long list of doing it on purpose.

Bleh, smb3 is overrated, much like anything old and groundbreaking. It's not all that difficult, and it's short. Personally, I would not play it over SMW or SM64...or SMS.

I feel more anti towards Tetris though...People make it like it's the best thing to ever grace the world, meanwhile it's existence owes itself to the fact that it's mindless and repetitive. The tetris on the N64 is by far my favorite; making gold and silver blocks is infinitely more fun than the black and white original tetris. And tetrisphere is amazing, too.

you could say the same thing about Mario World.

this is precisely why many people (myself included) love it. it's just timeless, mindless fun.

I dislike all 3d Mario, Zelda and Metroid games. I can play them, but they wouldn't get near my top 50.

I don't know if I'd say I dislike them, but I do think all 2d Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games are FAR better than the 3d ones.

Mega Man 4 is the best original Mega Man. There ya go...my unpopular opinion.

I do NOT want to predict Shadow/Knuckles. Seriously; that's one of the few I would seriously dread. I would take Knuckles out of pure favoritism and bias, but there's great cases to be made for both of them.

These accolades toward The New Tetris have made you the person of the day.

Haha, I didn't even realize how funny that was.
Gold + silver > black + white

But anyway, The New Tetris was fun, and those quirky little seven wonders of the world thing made it seem like there was an actual purpose and mission for Tetris. Plus, creating the silver and gold blocks, if you're familiar with them, is awesome, and definitely quirky.

The New Tetris was incredible. I was pretty good, but you should've seen my mom play it. She probably averaged over 1100 lines per game on marathon.

That's sick, and surprisingly (or maybe not so) my mom played it, too. It's pretty funny to imagine a whole group of people's mothers frantically arranging lines around an n64.

Yeah, but people don't. It's almost always smb3 > smw. Granted, smw was my first (over smb3) so that could explain my bias, but even now, smw just feels more vivid, fresh, controllable.

The New Tetris was absolutely amazing. It's just a shame it was so ****ing expensive, and it never dropped in price. ****ing used game stores sold it for $90 used, too.

As for my own unpopular opinions?

SMB3 is the worst main-series Mario game.

FFX sucks, and FFVIII rocks.

Vagrant Story is the best game of all time.

F-Zero GX is indeed the best racer ever (although I think that everyone who's played it agrees).

Ico is the worst game I've ever played.

MGS1 and MGS3 are awful, but MGS2 is amazing.

All classic Mega Man games suck, but MMX1-3 are among the best games ever.

From: Karma Hunter | Posted: 1/5/2006 9:21:21 PM | Message Detail
Eh, I'd have said Falcon, but even now I think he'd be stronger. I think a bunch of SSBM characters would be stronger than Ness, actually, but that's a whole different story.
From: Big Bob | Posted: 1/5/2006 9:23:47 PM | Message Detail
I vaguely knew of Captain Falcon before SSB, but I had no clue who Ness was at the time. Besides, there's an F-Zero TV Show, and the series keeps making games. If there was no SSB, Captain Falcon > Ness

Hmm, unpopular opinions...

The NES Metroid is overrated as hell.

LttP and LA are both overrated. (I couldn't even bring myself to get halfway through LA, though I enjoyed OoS and OoA immensely)

That's all I've got.

Pac-Man vs. Ness. Who wins?

From: therealmnm | Posted: 1/5/2006 9:25:24 PM | Message Detail
Ness... Unfortunately. At least Ness is a visible character in his game as it sorta revolves around him. F-Zero is DEFINITELY not about the characters. I don't even think the F-Zero TV show would have saved Falcon without SSB and SSBM.

Would you take CJ over Revolver Ocelot as well? That's the thing: it's impossible to tell how strong Pac-Man really is thanks to his SFF against Yoshi.

Come to think of it, we've never had a good reading on Yoshi either. He's lost to Bowser, Link, and Mega Man, all SFF matches.

Yeah; Revolver got exposed, hard. Even if it's the picture that hurt him so much, he's had more MGS-artwork pics than MGS3 in-game pics...plus it's assumed by many that Ness was at his strongest this year, making CJ look ever better if that's the case (though we've never had a good reading on Ness, either). I'll take CJ over Revolver.

It's almost as if Pac-Man was stronger in 2K5 than was in 2K2...then again, if you assume Kefka 2K3 = Kefka 2K4/2K5, then it appears 2K2 was the odd year for Pac-Man, being too weak. Or maybe Ocelot was overperformed against Bowser. Or something else. Your guess is as good as mine.

We've had a good reading on Yoshi for his first two years. He wasn't SFFed by Bowser, as Conker in the next two years performed almost exactly as the x-stats predicted. Yoshi faced Ryo Hazuki in 2K4, which the stats predicted the year before. I don't want to get Luigi or the 2K3 North Division involved, though. :P As for 2K5...Yoshi surely got at least a LITTLE stronger, but it's hard to imagine him being much moreso, looking at how Mega Man dominated him.

I'd probably side with CJ over Pac-Man, but I wouldn't be the least bit confident. I've estimated Pac-Man to be at about 22% on BL, and if you assume CJ's at the level and measure Ness from there, I say Ness could be higher or lower.

well, Kefka barely beat Pac-Man and Old Square seems weaker by the year. Pac-Man seems to get "well-known SFF", but only by old characters, so I don't think that'd come into play with CJ. I also think CJ might get some antivotes from people who hate GTA. I want to say GF is the strongest of the bunch.. but he's GF.

GF > Pac-Man, I'll say.
