I probably got 18 wrong in Spring 2004 along. And in Summer 2005.
While we bathe in nostalgia, I'm just wondering if anyone thinks that a 32-game 128-bit bracket would be likely at all... including DS/PSP games.
Lord knows that there are enough potentially strong games to do that and more.

I don't think it'd be AS fun as before. The best matches came between
the powerhouses as the top of the ladder is stacked. I don't know if I
would enjoy having merely this generation's games in it either.

man, that's a nice reminder that yoblazer > us. I'm sure I missed more than that on the game contest alone.

Heh, speaking of the Game Contest...
DK/Duck Hunt (DK)
PD/C:SotN (PD)
Halo/Starcraft (Halo)
Starcraft/KH (KH)
Starcraft/LoZ:WW (LoZ:WW)
CT/LoZ:LttP (LoZ:WW)
Starcraft/SSBM (LoZ:WW)
SMB3/CT (LoZ:LttP)
...151 points out of 192 (not too bad) and had missed eight matches, BUT the biggest blowout of those matches I missed was Starcraft/KH, where KH had 46.43% in that match. I consider that a point of pride, heh.
---
Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano in 2k6.
Why? He floats like a butterfly and stings like a...butterfly. Can't match grace like that.

2003:
Squall/Jill (Jill)
Squall/Luigi (Luigi)
Mario/Crono (Crono)
Tommy V/Mega Man (Tommy V)
Link/Cloud (Link)
Sp. 2004:
Donkey Kong/Duck Hunt (Duck Hunt) ;_;
Earthbound/Doom (Earthbound)
Super Metroid/LttP (SM, had SM losing to CT instead of LttP)
MGS/FFT (FFT)
Halo/Starcraft (Halo)
Kingdom Hearts/Soul Calibur (SC)
Kingdom Hearts/Stafcraft (Soul Calibur)
Metroid Prime/Wind Waker (MP, had it losing to SSBM)
Starcraft/Wind Waker (MP)
Yeah, Metroid > Zelda and no knowledge of Starcraft pretty much screwed my bracket over.
Su. 2004:
Jak/Ness (Jak, out of spite. Didn't think a point would hurt)
Viewtiful Joe/Tails (VJ)
Ryu H/Sora (Ryu H)
Yeah, that point bit me in my ass. Hard. No prize for me.
Sp. 2005:
Kuja/Master Hand (Kuja)
Robotnik/Master Hand (Kuja)
Kefka/Diablo (Kefka)
I let the board talk me out of Diablo taking the division. And thus no prize.
Su. 2005:
Ness/CJ (CJ)
Magus/Knuckles (Magus)
Kirby/Tidus (Tidus)
Magus/Squall (Magus)
Mario/Samus (Samus, had her beating Crono)
Snake/Bowser (Bowser)
Mario/Crono (Samus)
Note, I would have had Mario over Crono as well if they met up. The last 3 contest have been VERY painful as I was SO close to winning a prize. Meh.

MM are my INITIALS "There are only 10 kinds of people in this world, those that read binary and those that don't."

2002:
Abe/Kyo (Abe)
Jill/Kirby (Kirby)
Strider/Raziel(Raziel)
Alucard/Duke (Duke)
Bomberman/Jill (Kirby)
Mega Man/Serious Sam (Sam)
Lara/Crono (Lara)
Aeris/Snake (Aeris)
Sonic/Samus (Samus)
Crono/Snake (Aeris)
Overall, I made some boneheaded moves, but I made most of the right choices for latter rounds, including 3 of the Final 4, both of the finalists and the winner. Plus, only getting three wrong in the first round was pretty impressive back in 2002.
2003:
Squall/Jill (Jill)
Wario/Shadow (Wario)
Pac-Man/Kefka (Pac-Man)
Knuckles/Yuna (Yuna)
Ganondorf/Magus (Ganondorf)
Squall/Luigi (Luigi)
Ryu/Dante (Dante)
Mario/Sephiroth (Mario)
Link/Cloud (Link)
Sephiroth/Mega Man (Mario)
Cloud/Sephiroth (Link)
I actually did worse in 2003, although if it hadn't been for my foolish faith in Mario (One of only two times, I've felt I've let personal preference interfere with my decisions) I could have done OK.
Sp2004:
Metroid/Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Street Fighter II/SMRPG (Street Fighter II)
Xenogears/Pokemon GSC (Pokemon GSC)
Halo/Starcraft (Halo)
SOTN/Goldeneye (SOTN)
Starcraft/Kingdom Hearts (Kingdom Hearts)
Starcraft/Wind Waker (Wind Waker)
FFX/SSBM (FFX)
FFVII/OoT (Oot)
Starcraft/SSBM (FFX)
SMB3/CT (SMB3)
FFVII/SSBM (OoT)
CT/FFVII (OoT)
Ouch! This was an awful contest for me. My first wrong pick is the second time I've gone with personal preference over what I actually felt was right. I guess my though process was that maybe GameFAQS wasn't as RPG-loving as 2003 indicated, and I was proved wrong. Way wrong.
2004:
Jak/Ness (Jak)
Magus/Crono (Magus) (What was I thinking?!!!)
Sora/Ryu H. (Ryu H.)
Crono/Mario (Mario)
Link/Cloud (Cloud)
This is actually the least number of matches I've ever gotten wrong. However, one of them was in the third round, and one was the final so they really screwed me over in the end.
Sp2005:
Vergil/Ghaleon (Ghaleon)
Albedo/M. Bison (Albedo)
Ridley/Diablo (Ridley)
Kuja/Master Hand (Kuja)
M. Bison/Diablo (Ridley)
Robotnik/Master Hand (Kuja)
Kefka/Diablo (Kefka)
Ouch again! I reversed my thought process from last spring and decided to go with the RPG character for every match. A decision that once again backfired on me as I got virtually ever debatable match wrong.
2005:
CJ/Ness (CJ)
Dante/Terra (Terra)
Magus/Knuckles (Magus)
Ocelot/Pac-Man (Pac-Man)
Kirby/Tidus (Tidus)
Dante/Vincent (Terra)
Knuckles/Squall (Magus)
Vincent/Squall (Magus)
Cloud/Link (Cloud)
Link/Sephiroth (Cloud)
Damn you Square for delaying Advent Children! I could have won the Guru contest if it hadn't been for you! I suffered a little during the first and second rounds, but did fantastic during the latter parts of the contest. Vincent/Squall was the only non-TOC match I got wrong past the second round. I was actually tied for the leaderboard for the non-TOC bracket.

Do you think Wind Waker would SFF (or even beat) the original LoZ or perhaps a lesser installment?
I think it would...even though LoZ is a great game and many people today think it's one of the better Zelda games, I think it did get a lot of vote due to the Zelda name, being so old. I don't think it benefitted as much from name as Final Fantasy, though.
---
"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?"
"Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."

Yay GOTY polls!!
Mario Kart DS is killing in the DS poll, but that's no big surprise. I'm glad that Dawn of Sorrow is holding its own.

Summer 2002: (mostly a favorites, I didn't hear of most of the characters)
North
Spyro > Morrigan
Terry > Aya
Tails > Alucard AND Duke Nukem
I had Cloud winning the contest over Sephiroth, but there's more! \m/
East
Q*Bert > Dante
Gordon > Tina
Lara > Crono
Snake > Lara
South
Abe > Kyo
Max Payne > Scorpion, Pac Man > Max Payne
West
Sonic > Samus (the only match I missed in the entire West, oddly enough)
My other big screwup was having Sephy over Link. Oops.
Summer 2003:
The only match I missed in Link's division was Luigi > Squall
I had Yoshi > Bowser and Chief > Aeris
The only match I missed in Mario's division was Wario > Shadow
I had Lara > Zelda and Dante > Ryu in the West.
The big screwup was having Link win the contest. What sucked is that FF7 was my favorite game at the time and I had a Cloud > Seph final out of fanboyism until just before lockdown. Had I stuck with fanboyism, I would have had a 182 point bracket and finished in the top ten.
Spring 2004:
I had SF2 > SMRPG (thanks Slow; if I don't listen to you, then I don't have to sit around waiting to see who won the tie between Kirin17 and I for like a month) and Starcraft losing to Kingdom Hearts. Everything else was correct.
Summer 2004:
I had DK > Vivi (thanks Slow), Joe > Tails, Ryu H > Sora and Link beating Cloud (thanks Slow) in the final.
Spring 2005:
I had Sin > Robotnik, Kuja > Glove, Bison > Diablo, Kefka > Bison and Kuja > Sin.
This is the only contest where I've ever gotten an entire first round fourpack wrong. Thanks, Master Hand.
Summer 2005:
CJ > Ness
Alucard > Sora
Tidus > Kirby (thanks Slow)
Magus > The Devil Division
Ocelot > Pac-Man
Crono > Mario (thanks stats topic)
Needless to say, I won't be listening to the stats topic (especially Slowflake <_<) when they tell me how insane I am any time soon. I still remember MM119 telling me that I was throwing my bracket away when I had Mario winning it all. In the one contest where I listened to none of you and made my own choices... meh, you know where this is going.
SSBM > FFX and The Wind Waker made no sense once upon a time. How did that one turn out for you guys? ^_^

I'm sure the stats topic helped you out more than it hurt you though.
it would take an incredible ego to say that all good picks are your own
and that all bad picks are the stats topic's fault.

I'm just busting a few chops for kicks, hence the emoticons. I
originally had LTTP > Zelda 1 in the Final Four of that contest,
remember? And let's not forget my having PD to beat both SOTN and
Goldeneye before Slowflake convinced me of otherwise.

hehe, I know. I had both Kirby > Tidus and Pac > Ocelot this year
until the day before lockdown until the stats topic convinced me
otherwise. I blame that on myself more than I do others though.

The one horrible change due to people's opinions was taking StarCraft from getting to round 3 to losing in round 1.

Aaaand the GOTY polls begin!
MKDS wins, that one's easy... but Phoenix Wright is last. This has to get at least a few people outraged.

considering games like Kirby: Canvas Curse or Warioware: Touched (games
that sold way more) aren't on there, they should be happy that it's
there at all.

I don't remember much from 2003 and 2004, since my bracket was just
playing around at the time, but here's where I messed up this...LAST
year.
Spring 2005
Mushroom Division was perfect.
Mother Brain > Lavos
Albedo > M. Bison
Ridley > Diablo, M. Bison, and Kefka
CATS > Ansem (damn, I was so close too...)
Sin > Robotnik
Sin > Master Hand (yes, I picked Master Hand to beat Kuja)
I underestimated one of my favorite villains, and overestimated another. Why, Diablo, why?
Summer 2005
Lloyd > Zero (WTF was I thinking?!)
Zebes Division was perfect
Kratos > Alucard (dumb mistake)
Dream Division was perfect
DK > Master Cheif (man, I came so close..)
Vercetti > Kefka (of course, this was an understandable loss)
Dante > Vincent
Magus > Knuckles (You screwed up my Devil Division, Knuckles, but I still love ya)
Magus > Squall
Dante > Magus (not sure what I was thinking, but didn't make a difference)
Luigi > Tifa
Luigi > Sonic (I really want to know what I was smoking)
Pac-Man > Ocelot
I nailed every match past the Elite 8. Had Mario beating Crono, who beat Mega Man, Snake beat Bowser, and the ToC was easy.

and Starcraft losing to Kingdom Hearts. Everything else was correct.
Well, technically, that means you missed StarCraft > Wind Waker, too, right?
And I still think SMRPG > SFII is one of the most obvious "upsets" we've had in any contest.
SSBM > FFX and The Wind Waker made no sense once upon a time. How did that one turn out for you guys? ^_^
I had it, too, so it worked out for me.
Now let's see...All of my misses...
Spring Contest 2004
8-Bit: Tetris over Legend of Zelda
16-Bit: Sonic 2 over Super Mario World
32/64-Bit: Perfect!
128-Bit: Halo over StarCraft, Kingdom Hearts over StarCraft, Metroid Prime over Wind Waker, and then I had Kingdom Hearts over Metroid Prime in the Sweet Sixteen. I think I had KH winning the whole division at one point, so good thing I changed that.
Final Four: Mario 3 over Chrono Trigger
Finals: Mario 3 over Final Fantasy VII
Summer Contest 2004
Hyrule Division: Luigi over Yoshi (fanboyism pick all the way)
20XX Division: Perfect!
Midgar Division: Jak over Ness
Chaos Division: Viewtiful Joe over Tails, Hayabusa over Sora, Sonic over Samus
Final Four: Perfect!
Finals: Cloud over Link
I did better in this contest than I remembered...
Spring Contest 2005
Mushroom Division: Ocelot over Bowser
Jenova Division: Perfect!
Ruin Division: Ridley over Diablo, Bison over Ridley, Kefka over Bison
Triforce Division: Kuja over Master Hand, Kuja over Robotnik
Summer Contest 2005
Mushroom Division: CJ over Ness
Zebes Division: Auron over Ganondorf
Gear Division: Vivi over Zelda, Alucard over Sora
Dream Division: Tidus over Kirby, Ryu over Bowser, Tidus over Ryu (Yeah...)
Flood Division: Perfect!
Devil Division: Terra over Dante, Magus over Knuckles, Squall over Vincent (Bah, that one still hurts. SO close...)
Chaos Division: Kratos Aurion over Diablo
20XX Division: Ocelot over Pac-Man
Elite Eight: Samus over Mario, Sonic over Mega Man
Final Four: Samus over Solid Snake
Finals: Samus over Crono
Man, that contest was brutal for me.

With all the outrage there was on this board, I had no idea. Still, I
guess it was like River City Ransom fans complaining about losing to

I never even thought of God of War when it came to winning the Game of

sort of liking to it. Not that I mind, God of War is absolutely
fantastic.

I figured Kratos did well enough for himself in the contest to say God
of War was pretty well received. I'd say the game would do better than
he would in a contest setting.
How well has each game sold, for the record?

Considering that Kratos did, in my opinion, pretty respectably for a
first year character from a game that isn't exactly what one might
consider GameFAQs' cup of tea, I would not be surprised in the least if
GoW won.

I haven't checked up on Shadow of the Colossus sales, but God of War
sold more than 600,000 copies in the US last I checked. DQ8 sold less
than 85,000 copies and DMC3 sold about 350,000 copies. Just to go over
the big PS2 options. I'll go check up on Shadow of the Colossus though.
I did forget about Kratos in the contest. I can see where that comes from now. Speaking of him, he should do quite well in the future with the sequels that are coming out of the game.

I'd be surprised if SOTC finished any higher than third.. and I say
that with it probably being my favourite PS2 game of the year. GOW
seems like the logical choice, though we haven't had a huge PS2 game

God of War or RE4 should most likely take the PS2 award. I really don't
think SOTC has a shot though. It was number one for a couple days. If I
recall correctly, God of War was #1 for close to a month.

Honestly. Most of us were laughing off GoW Kratos as "the other one".
Then he goes and break 45% on contest vet Alucard, something Tails
failed to do IIRC (while the other one lays an egg against Big D). I'd
say Alucard and Leon are on the same level, so more power to Kratos.
