Resident Evil 4 will take it, maybe Shadow of the Colosus can give it a challenge, but I think this will be a battle between RE 4 (GC) VS RE 4 (ps2)

You know, Link yet again is going to miss that Twilight Princess boost, since the game is apparently delayed until November.

As for the GotY, RE4 is likely to take it. Unfortunately, I have a few games ahead of it for my own personal Game of the Year, so I can't see them win. Boohoo.

I'm guessing that if there's one game that challenges RE4, it'll be GoW. But seriously, RE4 was such a shot to the arm of an almost dead series, it's going to be remembered that way.

RE4 will win a goddamn landslide. GoW was great and all, but it's RE4.

Though I must say I think Killer 7 and Prince of Persia: T2T are both right on it's heels. By my standards anyway.

It's highly likely we're going to see only one PS2 game in the final poll anyway - MGS3 was shafted last year for losing to GTA:SA.

I think it would be awesome to see God of War win the Game of the Year. That'd be a first for when I actually agreed with the winner.

Well this is interesting. In 2002, Blizzard stated in its press release for Starcraft: Ghost that Starcraft had sold 6 million copies.

In 2005, Starcraft was inducted into the Walk of Game, and the inductee profile says that the game has now sold through 9 million copies.

So, pretty soon we'll be able to just say 10 million. <_<

I just hate when CJayC doesn't just do pointless polls, but they're copy/pastes from previous years. Seriously, eggnog? Why not something awesome like a Christmas log or something.

Oh, as a note for Ulti regarding the character profiles: Lavos/MB was a 3-6 match, not 4-5.

And I think Ceej will only have RE4 in there as a Gamecube title.

Why is that? Because it came out on GCN first, and multiplatform generally defines simultaneous releases? But then you're not giving the PS2 version recognition, unless you put it on the PS2 poll as well, and a single game being on two polls is stupid... imagine if it won both.

Not really important - although he's about just as much of a nutcase as Kefka, for comparison purposes (except Kefka is so much better).

*TOS SPOILERS*

I mean, think about it. So many of the people around him give him the proverbial "**** you" over the course of the game (Kratos, Zelos, Yuan, Martel) and he keeps them all alive (well, except for Martel, who he begs not to go), but the one who remains loyal to the end (Pronyma) he kills remorselessly. That may not look like much, but it's what marked me the most about Mithos.

I must say that in my opinion, Mithos is much more of a "Reason behind the madness" person than someone who is just plain insane.

Out of all the villains in the villain contest whose games I'd played, Mithos struck me as the only character who's goals weren't self-motivated and the only character who legitimately had good intentions. Well, him and Sin I guess.

I actually thought Mithos was one of the more developed villains out there. He wasn't trying to take over the world. He wasn't trying to destroy the world. He just wanted all the prejudice to end. Since he was a half-elf, he was shunned by everyone, and that prejudice was the motivation behind his actions.

It's better than ol' Sephy. "DADDY DIDN'T LOVE ME! WAAAAH!"

What game would win the GC poll if RE4 was put in the multiplatform poll?

I'd like to say Fire Emblem, but FE7's performance in the game contest makes me extremely wary of the series holding any sort of power.

And while we're discussing ToS, re-reading Mithos' page, I just clicked on something...

*TOS SPOILERS*

.

Had Colette completed the regeneration process and had she not been fit for being Martel's vessel, Zelos was next in line, right? Well, I just want to know who the bozo was who thought it would be a good idea for Martel to inhabit Zelos' body. Unless that's the whole reason Cruxis was ready to transfer the Chosen's duties to Seles... but I don't think they were thinking of that when writing that plot point.

I don't think that Zelos was intended to be Martel's body; he was just "the chosen". Didn't it say there were many, many chosen over the years? Perhaps Mithos was just waiting for a suitable body for Martel, and also killing all the chosen who didn't fit.

For no reason, I'm posting the ten characters I want to make the contest field next year:

Ike
Phoenix Wright
Prince of Persia
Meta-Knight
Harman Smith (Killer 7)
Alien Hominid
Jack (Harvest Moon)
Dan Smith (Killer 7)
Soma Cruz
Sturm (Advance Wars)

Some of those are fodder that probably won't make it out of the first round (Phoenix Wright, Jack), while others could be mid-carders (Prince of Persia, Soma Cruz). Regardless, I'd like to see how they all do in a contest setting.

The Prince is the only one who would be acceptable, and by that I mean not fodder. The only problem is, he'd be the only character ever to make the field to not have a name - and something tells me CJayC had to discard him once or twice for that reason.

On another subject, I submitted a top 10 list on December 3, and no news since then. *taptaptap*

I think Soma would do well in a contest. He won't be as strong as Alucard, but he should at least be a low midcarder. His name has gotten around a lot over the past year. It all depends on exactly who he is put up against.

Eh, I have doubts about another Castlevania character not named Alucard doing well in this contest. Simon Belmont already stunk it up.

I would never base how well Soma will do on how Simon Belmont performed in one match against Crono almost 4 years ago... Sure they are from the same series, but that's about it. When was the last time that Simon Belmont was relevant? Even Square and the Final Fantasy name proved that if you weren't already a video game Icon, pretty much anybody pre-Chrono Trigger ends up pretty weak in a contest setting.

Soma is pretty much the current star of the Castlevania, unlike Simon was during 2k2. Besides, if Raziel could do fairly decent around the peak of his popularity, I see no reason why Soma couldn't do as well with the Castlevania name behind him.

Ummm.... I was talking about 2k2. Soma is more comparable to Raziel of that year than Simon Belmont. Soul Reaver came out in '99, and Soul Reaver 2 came out in '01, so I wouldn't even say that was the peak of Raziel's popularity. He still ended up at 22.99 on Link. Last time I checked, that would qualify under low midcarder, which is where I said that Soma would most likely fall.

Besides, AoS and DoS are much more popular now than Soul Reaver was in 2k2. And Soul Reaver was clearly way past its prime by the time 2k3 rolled around, so Raziel's matchup against Sephiroth was expected.

I wouldn't exactly rely on "names passed around" as a measure of strength. Heck, KoaC wins fantourneys left and right here, and there was even a rally to get him in the villain contest IIRC.

Compared to that, this year looks to be an "every man for himself" year as far as nominations go, aside from JS. Unless we're merely preparing for the eventuality of a second game contest.
