Right, I agree. I'm just saying that alot of people won't care about that and will pick/debate for Kerrigan.

Heck, keeping Kerrigan proportionate with Wesker, she would be expected to have the fight of her life with Pyramid Head.

Don't know where this tought came from, but if Paper Mario was entered in a contest, do you think he would perform as well as Mario? Just a thought.

Would Epona be eligible for such a bracket? There's been debate about her being the fourth strongest Zelda character.

And if TP is out in time, Midna has to be in there. She'd be pretty strong, I think.

You win for putting Carmen Sandiego in the bracket. I'd vote for her against anyone, just on principle.

=P

And I've always been aware that Carmen Sandiego was an original videogame character. I always wonder why she never gets any nom love, but then I forget myself during nominations.

Not that I think Kerrigan would have a shot at winning a match against anyone who was reasonably popular, I suspect Vincent might have overperformed against her due to hype. Look what happened in Tifa Vs. Vyse.

Kerrigan might have SLIGHTLY more strength considering the fact that she went up against the all-popular FFVII.

Everytime I think about it, I just laugh because many people thought that Kerrigan would get the full support of the Starcraft nation without thinking about the fact that maybe, just maybe many of those people like FFVII, one of the most popular games of all time, more? Or at least that they would like one of the most popular FFVII characters more than Kerrigan?

And then to see people trying to post on Starcraft boards in desperation, only to get responses like "Wait, she's going up against Vincent from FFVII? There's no way I'm voting Kerrigan over him!"

Meh, I think Tifa/Vyse would be a more clear cut case of overperformance. PC characters of any kind have never been popular here.

Nah, Crono's always under-estimated because he's Crono; we've seen him go toe-to-toe with Mario two years and beat him another, yet he was BARELY the favorite to win his division (in his highest-seeded year, too) where his strongest competition was Master Chief and Donkey Kong. Granted, MC's always one to grab prediction-support and he had Halo 2 and the Map-Pack on his side (as well as the one-seed), but to still only beat his prediction-support by .32% after having beat Solid Snake and Mario before.....

*sigh* Multi-tabbing causes me to post in the wrong topics too much.

So...who's the strongest character anybody would take MC over next year? With the way he's controversial as-is and the possible influx of 360 fans coming in before then, we could get some interesting differences here.....

Maybe Dante? I think Master Chief is close to his ceiling now, which I believe would be Knuckles. I'd take Knux over Master Chief right now. Luigi may be enticing as well, but I don't see Master Chief getting over that wall of characters. Dante would be the only one I'd take him over in the future. I don't see Master Chief ever beating the Nintendo and Square near-elites. He could probably beat Auron, but I don't consider him near-elite anymore...

I don't see MC beating Auron, even now. Luigi, Dante and Knux, though? These matches better not occur. Or they better do, depending on your point of view.

I was talking about Master Chief's ceiling mind you. The point of the post is that I don't see him ever getting over that wall of characters. The only one that I could see him really ever beating (meaning after Halo 3 settles in) is Dante, and maybe Auron, although I completely forgot about Kingdom Hearts 2. Everybody else around there and above are video game staples.

His ceiling, like how strong he'd be 10 games from now? I wouldn't take anything for granted there. I definitely wouldn't call Crono a videogame staple, and he was a top 5 character at one point.

Meh, I meant in the near future... Although I thought Halo 3 would be it. I could hardly imagine 10 games for him, although I could imagine what it could end up like. Master Chief, the new Solid Snake?

I don't know how many games she has, but the consensus fall of grace seems to be after Tomb Raider 2. I never even beat the first one myself... <_<

Interesting. It appears that just like FF6 and CT hinted in the 10AC, the old Square games draw their popularity with the PS1 remakes. One could say they owe it to FF7...

Meh. Age demographic. Remember, many people here didn't start gaming until the Playstation/N64 era. I was absolutely shocked at the number of people here who said their first RPG was Super Mario RPG or Final Fantasy VII. But then... I realized I was old. :-\

How good is FFIV?

Not very. The battle system is so archaic you'll forget about all the good parts of the game. If you've played any more recent FF first, you probably won't like FFIV at all. The GBA version sounds like an improvement, but I'm not sure how much it improves the battle system, if at all.

I've been gaming since I was 4 years old (1990, for the record), and those were my first two RPGs as well.

And the poll is just asking which ones you own, not which ones you've played. I'd imagine that many gamers who used to own it on the SNES don't have the system anymore.

I didn't get into gaming until I six (in '92), and I didn't play my first RPG until '93 (FFMQ for a few minutes)...I didn't get into RPGs until SMRPG, though I did get FF in 1995. I became a fan of FF4,6, and CT just a few months before FF7 came out. I was SO mad at that time because I had an N64 rather than a PSX. :P

Wow. I wouldn't say I'm even close to being a hardcore gamer, and I still had my share of Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior on the NES. Not to mention Soul Blazer, Crystalis, Battle of Olympus, and Final Fantasy VI before I finally got to Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy VII.

Now that I look at it though, there weren't really THAT many big RPGs in the US pre-SMRPG besides Dragon Warrior and the Final Fantasy games. :-/

It may be too early to tell, but does anyone know how FF4A has been selling?

It would be interesting to see if these re-releases help the characters at all. Sadly, Cecil is way too weak to return to the contest, but maybe we'll find out if Kefka gets helped at all by FF6A.
