I personally don't see PoP being any stronger than Conker. I think PoP is being hyped up just as a new name more than people actually thinking he would have much strength. I certainly couldn't see him beating Ness, as painful as it is for me to say that.

Now that's my kind of question. >_> I'd say somewhere around Diablo.

I'd say Zidane. I see PoP as being Kratos level (They seem to be very similar characters. Both are the main character of popular PS2 3D platformers. PoP has more games, but God of War was more popular than any one of them, I think.) Zidane was weaker than Kratos in the last tournament, but Zidane fought against a more popular Square character, so I can't help but think that there was some SFF involved, and Zidane is a little bit stronger than the stats indicate. He wouldn't need much of a boost to be above Kratos, so I see him beating PoP.

Huh. Thought the new games were PS2 only, for some reason. <_<.

Probably a little bit stronger than Sam Fisher, then. Makes it a closer match, but I still think Zidane takes it.

Here's what unadjusted Zidane (who can be argued for and against adjusting) gets on other characters mentioned when we talked about who PoP could beat:

Diablo: 38.31%
Hayabusa: 39.09%
Sam Fisher (unadjusted): 43.35%
Kratos: 45.48%
Conker: 49.88%
Sam Fisher (based off MC-2k3): 50.29%
Laharl (based off Yoshi-2k3): 58.82%
Vyse: 60.32%
Laharl (unadjusted): 64.84%

Depending on your stance of PoP and if Zidane suffered any SFF or not, this should help.

So...should we start rallying for Setzer to be the next FFVI representative? Apparently, there's a rumor that he's going to be in Kingdom Hearts II.

Odd choice for an FFVI characters, but then again, Square had some odd choices for the original (Wakka and Selphie, mostly).

I think if Zidane would have been put in a match where he would have had even a slight chance of winning instead of being fed to the wolves first round, he would have done alot better. I would take Zidane over PoP, since I would certainly take Vivi over him, and have a hard time seeing there a that big of a difference between the two in contest strength.

Eh, I'm still dubious about whether Zidane actually suffered any significant amount of SFF. I suppose it'd be worth seeing him again to see if he can prove me wrong, but I don't see the issue with him having him that far below Vivi.

PoP and wouldn't look back. Revolver was a bust (this summer, at least, and arguably this spring too) and he was in all three MGS games as well as having parts that were just as big or bigger in each game than what Psycho Mantis had in his one game. Granted, we don't know how strong PoP would be, but I imagine he could be competitive with Revolver if Nemesis and Pac-Man could. PM, just no.

It'd be awesome to see PM be top-tier though.....

o_O.

I made a mock bracket earlier which had PoP vs Psycho Mantis as a first round match, where the winner would likely fight Zidane. Did you see that, Sephiroth, or is it just a really odd coincidence?

Anyway, PoP wins. Revolver Ocelot was fairly weak, and, more importantly, Big Boss was a huge bust. I can't imagine PM being any stronger than Big Boss, so PoP should win somewhat comfortably.

Also, I think it's hard to deny there is such a gap between Vivi and Zidane. I didn't wanna believe it at first (I don't know who I would have taken in a Zidane/Knuckles match before the contest), but it looks like there's not much of a way Zidane suffered that much SFF against Crono. Vivi would be expected to get 34.2% (without r/SFF) against Crono, and Zidane got 23.28%. That means Zidane's expected to get 34.04% on Vivi as-is...say you want to say the gap between Vivi/Zidane to be only 57.5-42.5, that would now mean Zidane should have gotten 29.07% against Crono. This means two things:

1) Zidane is just under Vercetti in the stats.
2) Zidane, a new-school FF lead, suffered just a little less SFF against the same old-school lead of CT (in a year where CT didn't seem as impressive as once before) as Kefka, an old-school villain. Skimming at a glance, I assume the difference in SFF in such a case is probably about 4.5% give or take a lil'.

Not impossible, but not likely either; I don't think it's happening. It's not that Crono can't SFF someone -- he has before and probably will again one day -- and I personally give Zidane credit for 1%-2% SFF against Crono, but it's hard for me to think a FF-lead gets SFF'd like that by Crono.

I just now realized something; in the unadjusted stats, Revolver loses to Big Boss (with 44.65%, too!), and adjustments favor Big Boss more than they do Revolver (unless you adjust by his Spring value)...

...yet would anybody take Big Boss over Revolver?

I'm a huge Soma fan, but I doubt he will have much strength in a contest setting. I'm lowering my expectations for him from the start, because that's what usually happens with new characters. Ryu Hayabusa is probably the most successful of the "new" characters, and even he ended up being overrated. I'd put Soma at Revolver Ocelot's level, max.

I know we were talking about LoZ:TP and whether or not we'll see it before next contest, I think with Nintendo saying the Rev will launch Thanksgiving week '06, it pretty much guarantees that TP will end up being a Rev launch title. Releasing it in the US with 6 months left in the GC's life would just be moronic.

Well, the Rev is backwards compatible, so it's not like people couldn't just buy the TP for that, too. Wasn't it Reggie who flat out said TP would be for gamecube? I would hope he doesn't go back on his word.

Plus, if TP was going to be on the Rev, it wouldn't offer anything in terms of new graphics, motion, anything like that, that the Rev could have. It would basically be a gamecube game on a next gen system; it wouldn't look that nice.

To this day I wish Nintendo switched TP with TWW's release dates. Had tbey released TP during 2003, when the GCN was at it's peak, they would be racking in the cash.

Instead, they release the game near the end when everyone is more interested in the next-gen. Nintendo will still make a lot of money, just not as much as they could have.

Well yeah, the game would sell regardless, but if it's a Rev launch title, that can't be played on GC, it will most definitely help sell units, and would be much more profitable. If they didn't release it for Rev it would be a terrible business decision. And they might have already switched the project over to the Rev without telling anybody so it could be just as "nice looking" as any other Rev game. And as Ninty's said many times in the past, it won't be a big graphical leap at all.
