Has there been new news about a delay? I thought TP was still scheduled for Spring '06.

Well, apparently from an interview with Club Nintendo -- note that this is a translation -- Reggie confirmed that it was going to release in April. As nice as that sounds, I'll remain very skeptical after the holiday season was also a confirmed release date for the game. The interview was something like this...

CN: The delay of "Twilight Princess" is because it could be launched for the Revolution system in 2006?

Reggie: The reason of the delay was because Miyamoto said he wants it to be the best Zelda ever, but it's a hard record to achieve, so he asked for more time. We will be launching it in April and will be for Gamecube.

And KH2 could be delayed as well. It's not like development for it is proceeding very quickly.

KH2 will be out before Twilight Princess comes out, I'll say that much. The American release date keeps slipping, but it's still scheduled to come out at the end of December this year in Japan. The American date right now is March. The development on that game is more or less complete unless they give another quick delay for Japan.

Master Hand, no!

That's the problem with most people making brackets. You should have at least 15 new characters in any bracket.

That's debatable. Of course, I think there should be a large turnover from year to year, with plenty of opportunity for people to come back after a year or two of hiatus. I think 15 is a bit high to set as a minimum, though it's probably pretty close to the optimum amount. I'd say that any bracket that manages to come up with ten good new characters that fill roles (spoiler, Tanner fodder, giving CATS a win, trap match) isn't doing too badly.

New guys fill the purpose of being more unpredictable as far as their strength go, but I like having alot of returning characters too where the matches themselves are unpredictable instead of the characters. Now, that's not to say we haven't had some great matches like that (Frog/Liquid for two new guys, Hayabusa/Jill for one new guy...there's two examples), but I also like to have good ideas for a character's strength and finding their near-equal to pit them against. That way, more debate can actually occur (and, color me crazy, but I think people feel more strongly for characters they've seen in contests before too, thus making some debates THAT much more debated).

Vincent Valentine and Sarah Kerrigan brought up one hell of a lot discussion... and they were both new. >_>

Hell Vincent brought a hell of a lot of discussion even past the first round.

Which is true...but I'm not going to acknowledge Vincent/Kerrigan deserving half the discussion it got.

Besides, I was getting more at good matches than good discussion; two new guys will always have discussion. I'm just saying that, when you have a match that you know is pretty even on behalf of both sides, that automatically brings up more of a need to discuss why one takes what stance to those who discuss such matters. Discussion comes naturally from even matches and will likely last longer and seem smarter...even matches don't come naturally from discussion, which will likely last as long but will probably bear a LOT more repeating of the same things over and over.

...Frog/Liquid was pretty good for a pair of newbies, too. One of the best matches of 2004. Granted, that was one that didn't get a lot of discussion beforehand. Everyone thought Frog was gonna take it easily.

Frog/Liquid was probably the only match I ever felt *vindicated* on, even if Liquid fell short at the end. It's the only match where I actually had some idiot e-mail me before it to rant about how Liquid had no chance at taking out Frog and that Frog had a great chance at upsetting Snake.

In retrospect, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that assessment now...
From: LessThan3Presea | Posted: 12/4/2005 9:01:02 PM | Message Detail

What games/series caused you to be most familiar with Donkey Kong?

--Donkey Kong (the original game)
--The Donkey Kong Country series
--Donkey Kong 64
--Super Smash Brothers/Melee
--Multiple side-roles in Mario spin-offs
--...Donkey Kong is that one ape I think, right?

I just sent it and don't have high hopes of it getting used by CJay, but I think the results would be interesting to see if nothing else.

I'm just sort of getting curious about the possibility of what Diddy would do in a contest.

That was my inspiration for the poll I sent; I think the success of DKC (and DK64, maybe) would tell a decent idea about how many DK fans are also likely Diddy fans. Of course, nowhere near exactly, but it would give for a better range.

That and I really wanna know what makes DK so well known.

Fact or Fiction: Pac Man is more prone to SFF than any other contest veteran.

Most likely. Though it's a different and more advanced case of SFF. I'd like to call it the "don't care" factor. It works in two ways for Pac-Man.

One, since everyone is familiar with him, he serves as a "default" vote for those that don't care for his opponent (i.e. Revolver Ocelot). So if Pac-Man goes against someone that has a cult or isolated fanbase, he will most likely automatically get the votes of those not in said fanbase.

BUT...

Two, once Pac-Man goes up against somebody that people generally actually care about or are as known as Pac-Man (as we've seen with Luigi and Yoshi), then Pac-Man loses his "default" vote.

...and therealmnm beats me to it. However, Master Hand made it in more than one match, so I'm gonna say it would get SFF'd worse percentage-wise by Ganondorf than anybody could SFF Pac-Man.

yep, I believe in the so-called "well-known/oldschool SFF" as well. I hate the term, but it makes sense - if someone's got everything you have plus more, you're gonna get destroyed. if you put him against, say, a New Square character, he'll show his strength better than he will against a Mario character.

3 Vincent
6 Barret

Ramza might actually be a decent match for the Pacster; he's relatively weak, and while his value might be underrated (though I doubt it), he might have gone down due to negligence. He's only been in one game, right?

And that Midgar division lacks Reno.
