HOLD IT!!!

Aside from Phoenix Wright, who's brand new, we're running out of newcomers to campaign for. The big ones all made it this year, without exception.

...

GO ZELOS!

I can still think of quite a few who haven't made it yet who at least deserve a chance to show what they can do, and it'd be worthwhile to rally for some who haven't seen action in a couple of years (*coughs*Fox McCloud*coughs*).

My hopes for newcomers this year:

JAY SOLANO
Phoenix Wright
Prince of Persia
Locke
Serge
The Boss
Soma
Mewtwo

Those are the ones that would be the most interesting to see from my view (more from board interaction than match-discussion though). Out of those, I would only have faith in PoP, Mewtwo, and Locke to handle themselves somewhat decently (as in be close to the fodder-line).

I'd also like to see Fox McCloud, Joanna Dark, and Master Hand return (I can't help it; I wanna see the glove in a 1/8-seed SFF-match, heh).
---
Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano in 2k6.
Why? He floats like a butterfly and stings like a...butterfly. Can't match grace like that.

Yeah; after Starcraft's amazing run and Diablo following up with a decent surprise of his own the year after -- coupled with Leonhart's rally -- Kerrigan killed with the nominations board-wise.

She, along with those nominations, got wasted in the first round, too.

Here's to hoping Jay Solano follows suit.

Somehow, I doubt we're going to have something of the same magnitude. JS is a joke entry at heart, and I'm pretty sure the board's Kerrigan nominators didn't all post in that tally topic.

The main thing I'm looking forward to is how the DS will affect everyone's strength. The GBA hasn't had much effect, but look at Kirby...

He had a gigantic boost this year, and it may have been thanks to Canvas Curse. I know he had the Amazing Mirror too, but still, that was some boost.

I'm still a believer of Kirby rSFF'ing Bowser. KCC probably helped him some, sure, and I think the DS is largely responsible for the large boost we saw in many Nintendo characters simply by bringing in more Nintendo fans (then, from there, whatever games attract whichever fans more than others). I just think that, for Bowser hardly/not SFF'ing Yoshi and Kirby being stronger than Yoshi (as well as from a different series) -- then add to it Kirby is likely much more prefered from the SSB/M fanbase than Bowser -- and I see rSFF being more likely a solution for Kirby looking more impressive this year than K:CC.

Besides, didn't Kirby get damn-near exactly what he was expected to get on 2k4-adjusted Tidus? If nothing else, how many people would take Kirby to beat Zelda? Unadjusted stats have Kirby winning that battle with 51.82%. If you're about to say Zelda would have the LoZ advantage and would keep it from being like that, well, you're right, heh, but then also look at it like this: Kirby would be expected to get 47.31% against Solid Snake...to compare, Zelda got 45.59% against Solid Snake.

Possible, sure, but I don't believe it.

I thought it was common fact that she was a video game character. I used to play the PC games all the time growing up. The only thing I hated was that in order to get promoted from Sleuth, you had to answer a question which required you to have Folger's Almanac. Cheap advertising. I never got promoted, thus never got the chance to actually CATCH Carmen Sandiego. Always got stuck catching her thugs over and over. ;_;

I'm sure Kirby did overperform a bit on Bowser, as Bowser did on Snake as well, but I would not take Kirby over Zelda. Zelda's working off Twilight Princess hype, and unless Kirby gets a major boost from his Gamecube game next year, I don't think he'd beat Zelda.

It's really fun to look at the GameFAQS Top 50 List today.

I predicted Mario Kart DS jumping back into the Top 10, but I wasn't expecting Liberty City Stories.

It's interesting that the Xbox 360 Hardware FAQ actually dropped. PSP Hardware FAQ rose, but that's it. I'm also kinda surprised none of the other console hardware FAQS popped back on to the list due to Christmas. Hell, when the Revolution controller was revealed the Gamecube FAQ catapulted to #10, and the others took big jumps too.

It's also funny to see Final Fantasy VII, Tales of Symphonia and Diablo II collapse.

Besides, didn't Kirby get near exactly what he was expected to get on 2k4-adjusted Tidus?

He nailed the unadjusted Tidus within half a percent, not the adjusted. Still, I guess it's possible that Kirby might have overperformed against Bowser (and/or Bowser against Snake) since Tidus was technically stronger in 2005.

Speaking of which, it is odd to note that Tidus's expected percentage against 2005 Link is nearly equal to what his 2004 self was expected to get against Base Link.

Then again, he and Magus are tightly placed together... grr. I hate you, Tidus.

It is possible he underperformed a bit against Megaman. Just, not by the ten points we thought it was at the time. More like, two or three.

Now that I think about it, Sonic really is the one who deserves it most. Even Snake has a Final 4 appearance and thrashings of Sora and Squall under his belt. Sonic's greatest moment was probably pulling 57% against Tifa; needless to say, an industry icon deserves something far more historic.

Yeah, it seems every Noble Niner has had his shining moment against Sonic...

Link - Overall best
Cloud - Only guy to ever beat Link
Sephiroth - Beat the crap out of Mega Man in 2003, despite having a close match the previous year
Mario - Won in 2005
Samus - Upset Sonic
Crono - Beat Mario in 2004
Mega Man - Broke 90% twice in 2002
Snake - Biggest character blowout in entire contest

Meanwhile, Sonic has choked against Samus AND Mega Man. I love that guy. He needs his moment of glory. ;_;

I'd agree with that to some extent. Other than Gordon and CATS, all my nominations are going to new entrants who will hopefully get rallied into the big dance (even though many of them are fodder >_>). Certainly, I'm not wasting any more nominations on Link and Snake from this point onward.

Don't forget Pikachu. As much as I hate the little rodent (and its whole evolutionary line by extension), I'd love to see what it's actually worth. From being behind Mario/Cloud in 2002 to being DOUBLE SFFED in 2003, as well as being behind possible FF7/Xenogears SFF in the game contest, we still have no clue what it's worth, and it should only spark even more debate as to Mewtwo as well. It's like Pac-Man, except we actually got a decent read on Pac-Man once. Three ****ing years ago, though.

Certainly, I'm not wasting any more nominations on Link and Snake from this point onward.

I'd like to do the same, but old habits die hard >_> It's just too tempting to nominate my 10 favorites to try and get them a good seed and move on, or in Link's case, just try to do my part to not have Clinkeroth banned outright. And the bad news is, only one of my 10 favorites has never gotten into a contest >_>

Yeah, bringing back some snubs would be nice. The problem with new entries is that some people that should be strong could be weaklings in disguise, but a good degree of turnover would be nice.
